Texico Police are asking for the public's help locating a missing 9-year-old girl. Police are searching for Roberta Manzanales who was last seen around 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2019.

New Mexico State Police say that the child was last seen walking away from Texico Elementary School and did not come home after school. She is last known to have on black pants that were rolled at the bottom, a grey and purple hoodie, blue and pink shoes and a backpack that had stars.

Roberta is known to have a rare skin condition that causes light and dark spots on her skin. Police say she is missing and is believed to be in danger if she is not found.

Anyone with information regarding Roberta Manzanales' location is asked to call the Texico Police Department at (575) 769-1921.

So glad to hear it worked out!

They didn't offer details on what happened, but working in school bus transportation for a large urban school system, I can verify that we get calls from frantic parents about their "missing" child at least a few times a year. In each case, it was either miscommunication between the adults (e.g. parents who share custody confusing whose day it was, or the babysitter not getting the message that Mom doesn't have to work late after all) or else the child makes a play date with another child and simply goes home with them. In each case, we have asked the parent about that possibility and they always reply, "No, definitely not! She knows she needs permission to go somewhere!" But guess what? They're kids. Sometimes, no matter what you tell them or how often, kids will still act without thinking.
