I thought I remembered one of the KBI people testifying in the Seacat trial say that they don't use the test anymore because it isn't reliable. I thought for one they said so many people can wash their hands. Which I think Brett had many opportunities to do so. That is the same thing they said in court this morning that it isn't used much any more.

So I don't know about all states. Maybe it cost to much and isn't worth it if it isn't that reliable.

I think gunshot residue would have been important not that Brett wouldn't wash his hands but because unless the person is a hard sleeper or under some influence picking up the hand they write with, putting a gun into that hand, moving the arm/hand to shoot them in the head and pressing down on their finger would probably wake someone up and 'ruin' the shot.
