This is my hometown (though I don't live there anymore). Very unusual for a mass shooting to occur there, even though crime has gotten worse over the years.

Police: Multiple people killed in library shooting

CLOVIS — Multiple people have been killed and injured in a shooting at the Clovis-Carver Public Library, a police spokesman confirmed at 4:40 p.m.

Police surrounded the library a few minutes after 4.

Police scanner traffic reported air ambulances have been dispatched at at least one victim has been taken to Clovis Municipal Airport. One scanner report said a victim was in a closet at the library and seeking medical attention.

Vanessa Aguirre said she was in the library with her son when a man came in and “started to shoot” into the air.

The newspaper's FB page says that the police will hold a press conference at city hall shortly, but no link has been posted yet. IDK if they'll livestream it or what. Will update as soon as I see anything.

The name of the shooter (if there is only one) is floating around out there, but hasn't been confirmed. Still can't find any info about the reported press conference, or even if it has taken place. I think the closest TV stations are trying to make their way out there. Out in eastern NM, besides a university station, the closest TV station is about an hour and a half away in Roswell. Lubbock, TX, is about the same distance and I know they have reporters headed that way, too.

This is just heartbreaking.

edited to add: Actually, Roswell is closer to two hours from Clovis, so the Lubbock stations would be closer.

A friend of mine says that media will be trying to stream from city hall, but unknown at this time which station(s) will be there. The police are probably waiting for the various media outlets to arrive. As I indicated, it's somewhat rural in eastern NM and it takes time to get from one town/city to another.

Very little new information. Young man in photos in handcuffs is suspect. Will not name. Two females deceased. Four people in hospital--two females, two males. Conditions unknown.

I very much fear one of the victims could be his girlfriend. Whoever has lost their lives, it's senseless.

No one has posted anything like that on his girlfriends FB. And she posted 20 hours ago, pictures with her and him, saying how happy they are. It is very confusing. He seems to have a beautiful sweet loving girlfriend and a large, loving family in his hometown. Very odd.

Yeah, when her sister started posting, I realized she must not have been one of his victims. Family have confirmed one of the deceased. An older woman. Very tragic.

OMG, this is a real fear of mine.
We have had active shooter training in my library/work.
You never know what's coming through the doors.
