No intruder?

NO, I don't think so. I've only gone over this a million times, HOTYH: the phrases from those movies were actually MISQUOTED, as if the person was not overly familiar with them, much less "obsessed" with them.

Misquoted?

Ramseys: Ransom note shows killer obsessed with crime movies

Ad contains lines from action films

BOULDER, Colorado (AP) -- The ransom note left by JonBenet Ramsey's killer contained quotes from several crime movies, according to her parents, who placed some of the phrases in a newspaper advertisement.
John and Patricia Ramsey said they hope the ad, which is to run Sunday in the Daily Camera of Boulder, helps catch their child's killer.
"JonBenet's killer appears to be obsessed with techno-crime movies and phrases from them," the Ramseys say in the ad.
It is the fourth ad the couple have placed since JonBenet's death and includes phrases from the movies "Ransom," "Dirty Harry" and "Speed."
The 6-year-old beauty queen was found beaten and strangled in her family's basement December 26, about eight hours after her mother said she found a ransom note demanding $118,000.
There have been no arrests, although District Attorney Alex Hunter has called the Ramseys a focus of the investigation.

Report: Wood may have come from paint brush

The Denver Post reported Friday that the wood in the garrote used to strangle JonBenet came from a long-handled artist's paint brush. The garrote, or cord-wrapped stick, may have been used to strangle JonBenet.
An autopsy photograph shows cord wrapped around the brush's handle seven times and spotted with royal blue and black paint. Investigators have checked the paint on the handle against paint found in the Ramsey's expensive Tudor mansion, the Post said.
The piece of wood was about 4 1/2 inches long and broken on both ends, according to the full autopsy report which was released Wednesday by court order over investigators' objections.
The couple wanted to publish the entire 2 1/2-page ransom note, but said they complied with a police request they not do so. Police gave the Ramseys a photocopy of the note.
The advertisement lists 10 phrases, including: "Now listen. Listen very carefully," from "Dirty Harry"; "Do not involve the police or the FBI. If you do, I will kill him," from "Ransom,"; and "You know that I'm on top of you. Do not attempt to grow a brain," from "Speed."
According to published reports, the ransom note also contains the sentence, "Don't try to grow a brain, John."

-------------------

Thats pretty specific, SD: "grow a brain" is from Speed. Did you need a quote-quote exact before you'd concede the ransom note author drew from crime movies?

Are you going to stick with your POV that there's no link to movies in the ransom note?

Misquoted?

Yeah. For one, the line "talk to a stray dog" is often stated as coming from "Dirty Harry." The ACTUAL line is "talk to a Pekinese p***ing against a lamppost."

The bold is mine.

It's also short and easy to remember: the kind of line that finds its way into popular parlance in a short time. These are known as memes. I'll give you an example, HOTYH. A lot of people know the line "the stuff that dreams are made of." But how many of them would know that it's from "The Maltese Falcon?"

More recently, the line "it's so fluffy!" from "Despicable Me" has become popular over the Internet. People who have not seen the movie are speaking it.

You follow me?

Did you need a quote-quote exact before you'd concede the ransom note author drew from crime movies?

It's one thing to DRAW from crime movies, HOTYH. (Indeed, that would strengthen the idea that this person didn't know what a real criminal would sound like and was throwing in anything that sounded good.) But that's not what you said. You used the word "OBSESSED." That's a little different than "drawing from," wouldn't you say?

Are you going to stick with your POV that there's no link to movies in the ransom note?

Do bears poop in the woods?

grow a brain is Speed, right?

Talk to a stray dog, and talk to a pekinese are very similar, and is from Dirty Harry, right?

"Do not involve the police or the FBI. If you do, I will kill him," is very similar to the JBR ransom note "she dies', right?

I know I'm going slow, but...

...aren't these ransom note expressions EXCLUSIVE to crime movies?

Toltec,

I can find no mention in the interviews etc, I've searched on "pink" and "pajama" seperately.

There seems to be no mention on the evidence lists either.

.

I must be somehow mistaken...but I can't convince myself 100%.

I finished reading Patsy's interview with Michael Kane...no reference there, but I did hear a couple of interesting things regarding Burke's Grand Jury testimony:

Burke owned a pair of Hi-Tec boots with with a compass on them...

Bat found outside the Butlers Pantry was indeed Burkes.

These are answers Burke gave during Grand Jury proceedings.

What, you dont think the RN author "appears to be obsessed with techno-crime movies and phrases from them?" Do you also not see any connection between a movie obsession and Korea?

SD it seems you've skipped the 2nd question. Trimmed it, in fact, from your response.

Film references prove what exactly? Oh,that the perpetrator was familiar with movies.

I'd be impressed if the mythical 'Korean' intruder knew all these movies especially in light of the fact that the person(s) had to write the ransom note in the house using Patsy's notepad and pens. These Korean kidnappers must have extraordinary memories to remember such quotes from movies which are all American and em, not Korean.

A more plausible interpretation is that the unusual ransom note, most probably written by Patsy, was wrote in a panicked state where the frantic ramblings of the perpetrator(s) mind poured silly information onto the notepaper in a bid to confuse the police who would read it.

It's often called the world's craziest ransom note -- 3 pages long and absolutely silly. It's a ransom note that well, couldn't actually work for ransom considering that these mythical intruders killed a child but didn't take her body away to use for ransom. Weird that.

What if actually, an intruder was made up? Who'd do that?

I agree with the premise that if there was a film-obsessed intruder, he/she would have used the exact quotes. For example, my son used to love the movie "Top Gun." You could turn on the movie, turn down the sound, and he could recite the entire script. Likewise, you could turn on the movie, have him close his eyes, and he could tell you exactly what action was going on at any given moment just based on the audio. That's obsession.

"John and Patsy Ramsey are still a main focus of the investigation, but they are also becoming its highly publicized investigators. According to Haddon, the Ramseys' privately financed team involves upwards of 20 people, with four full-time private investigators and 10 forensics experts, including several handwriting analysts and a linguist. On Sunday, moreover, the Ramseys ran their fourth local newspaper ad appealing for help from the public. The ad noted that the killer "appears to be obsessed with techno-crime movies and phrases from them" and included quotes from Ransom, Dirty Harry and Speed that the family says are similar to ones in the bogus ransom note."

It seems the most distinctive feature that the R's + 20 paid experts produced is an 'obsession with techno-crime movies' because its the first thing the media reports when referencing the fourth ad.

RDI seems to think JR thought it up because he's biased. But really I wonder which of the 20 experts came to this conclusion?

As if paid experts arent biased... Since you asked, I'll vote for the greediest expert without conscience or boundaries. I'm just giving my opinion to your asked question

So this ties into a Korean, how??

Considering the many times that John Ramsey himself stated that all their "experts" were hired to keep them out of jail, how could anyone be surprised with things like movie obsessions? This is no different than the rn itself, throw it all out there and hope like he!! something sticks!

This is a very important statement Becky, as it also tells the lengths that the R's and their spin team went, to influence the DA's, citizens of Boulder and the media. Anything and everything that could be spun, was!

A line from a few movies are mentioned or mis quoted, so lets call this an obsession. Ever morphing statements, stories and all to what price?? Certainly NOT to find the killer of their precious baby. Or 'that child', as they so often referred to JonBenet.

Hi Sunnie! For fun sometime, read the transcription of the LKL episode that featured the Ramseys and Steve Thomas and just start counting how many times they refer to JonBenet as "that child" or "this child".

I suppose. That's not proof that the person knew that, though.

...aren't these ransom note expressions EXCLUSIVE to crime movies?

Well, that's the question, isn't it? My answer is, not necessarily.

SD it seems you've skipped the 2nd question. Trimmed it, in fact, from your response.

One thing at a time, please.

Yes, I DID skip the second question. With good reason: in order to tackle the second question, we have to establish the answer to the FIRST question, don't we?

Beck,

The Rs never seemed able to say her name, its all part of the distancing I guess. There are so many things that bother me about LKL, interviews. I especially dislike how easy LK was on them.

Well, HOTYH, it's not like we haven't said this a million times before, but I'll thank you to remember that the 20 experts you speak of, by JR's OWN ADMISSION, were not there to conduct an investigation, but rather to muddy up the waters and keep him and PR out of prison by any means necessary.

I just thought it would help to remember that.
