I'm fine with snow and cold temperatures until the weather starts causing damage and loss of income. Then I'm not so fine with it.

The weather reporter had a funny quip about the storm.. After showing clips of numerous car crashes in whiteout conditions the reporter said, "The storm is heading north, into Canada, where they call major storms like this ...normal winter weather.

Even so, it's cold and stormy and I'm happy to stay at home tonight.

We have had very very colds temps (for here). The local transportation folks say that haven't seen anything like it and since it is so rare we don't have the plow crews / equipment to deal with it. Fun! We have been stuck in our neighborhood for 5 days now. We could leave for an emergency or supplies but why put us at risk if we don't need to get on the road?

The tow truck co. said they got 350+ calls over the weekend and still haven't answered them all. :(

Winter Weather Watch: Great Lakes Snow, Watching Weekend Storm

Another storm will spread snow by Saturday from the Great Lakes through Upstate New York to New England... Probably a wintry mix in the DC to NYC corridor and rain southward to the Gulf Coast... Details will become more clear over time but there is potential to name this storm. If so it would be ELECTRA, from Greek mythology, the Princess of Argos.

This AM, early, it was 11 degrees in PA, after yesterday's snow. A temp of 11 degrees is COLD in damp PA. I'm sitting in my apartment looking out, seeing my snow-covered car - cleaned it once, watching the snow freeze on it. I'm seeing winter, a cold, snowy one. I'm just glad I'm retired and no longer plowing snow on I-95.

My nieces and nephew got Friday and today off from school, due to snow. And they have a frozen pipe at their house, too.

(TBH, I can't wait...although I don't know how to live in the cold like that, I'm looking forward to learning it. :))

Wait - what? This Albany? In Oregon?

It's usually never cold like this! That's why everything is shutting down. We maybe get one or two days of cute little snow then it melts and everything is business as usual.

There is NO SCHOOL AGAIN TOMORROW. Guys, watch for me to show up in the Crimes in the News forum if this madness ensues.

Albany where? If it's Oregon, like the last poster mentioned, you're probably okay. If you mean Albany, New York, you better buy a survival book.

So, what's the difference between freezing rain and sleet? Both are forecast for today. Heaven help us!

The City of Eugene has declared an emergency. :panic:

We got a foot of snow yesterday and today they are forecasting 1/4" to 1/2" of freezing rain! Literally, that is icing on the cake! I am snowed in. Snow plows? None. Snow shovels? None of those either!

It's CRAZY! I have never seen this much snow in my life outside of the ski slopes! Yesterday I was like "please...stop...please just stop...snowing."

I've been trying to keep the poor wild birds fed and my chickens are terrified. A tiny freezing lesser goldfinch flew in through the front door yesterday evening and didn't make it through the night. My poor (large) dog has snow up to her chest and I hurt my shin this evening scraping it on the top frozen layer of snow - madness!

Sure is a great workout, though. Walking down the street to the mailbox had me sweating and huffing - felt like the equivalent of about 1/2 Zumba class.

Hopefully this mess will be gone before we run out of cream for the coffee! We also have plenty of brandy but I'm getting low on cookies. :scared:

Hang in there Willamette Valley peeps!

We are going back to work today. The roads around my house are still slush, so I'm taking my time driving there!

Work is optional today, but I've missed enough due to this storm AND I'm going stir crazy! :pullhair:

The weather here in WA is not bad at all right now! Last week had NO rain, but was misty and icy. There wasn't too much rain the week before, no ice either. Hasn't rained this week yet, but it's supposed to on Friday... :sigh:

Mornings are pretty cold but hey, at least there's no snow!

Funny, I heard on the radio, I think it was October, that one day, there was a "chance of sun"...lol!

An earthquake shook the Boise area about 5:53 p.m. Tuesday, the National Weather Service in Boise confirmed with a tweet.

The shaking lasted for 20-30 seconds, with a small pause, at a home in East Boise.

U.S. Geological Survey pegged the earthquake at 6.5 magnitude with an epicenter in the mountains northwest of Stanley. The epicenter was 45 kilometers west of Challis, the National Weather Service said.

“We don’t have any reports of damage just yet,” Hayley Williams of Boise Police said.
