Two scenarios with AK belongings and Kayak found. Either he had an accident OR the disappearance has been made to look like an accident. In either case...he may never be found. I don’t want to come across as not hopeful - but realistically what are the options?
If it wasnt for his phone pinged in the Rogaland region it would be logic to think it was a kayak accident, in either scenarion, but the fact his phone and sim cards where used over 1000 miles away after his disappearence makes the case very strange, and for me at least, give hope he still is around, somewhere

I have read this whole thread. I am one to always be positive. For a moment - I lost hope. After reading your comment I am hopeful again.

I'm team accident. Because of the wallet / bag that was found. IMHO in case of a robbery gone wrong, the perps would have taken the money. If the disappearance was staged, the kayak and the paddle might have been left as a red herring, but the wallet was a lucky find that no one could have counted on to happen.

I have my doubts about the phone pings in Rogaland, I wonder if they were real and if the phone was with Arjen. If you want to disappear surely there are cheaper and easier ways than buying an expensive hi-tec kayak and carrying the thing all the way up to the Polar circle or thereabouts, only to drop it in a fjord and wave it goodbye.
Also, if you want to disappear, make sure your highly protected phone does not ping afterwards.

So while I say I'm team accident, kayak loaded with luggage tips over and AK cannot get out in time, I have no explanation for the many mysteries surrounding this accident, and I want to see them solved.

Also, I think a good SAR dog will be able to follow Arjen's trail and bring some light in the mysterious route that he took after he left the hotel.

The good thing about searches with dogs on land and on the water is that family and friends can organize these themselves, there is no need to wait for the Police, though their assistance is always appreciated.

Not too long ago, a respected Toronto fire station chief went missing whilst on a ski trip, many searched for him to no avail, things were not looking good at all.
It turns out, that somehow he ended up on a truck possibly after hitting his head. Remarkably, he was finally located far away in California, still in ski clothing and boots, alive! fwiw.
Toronto firefighter who disappeared on ski trip recounts baffling journey that took him across the U.S. | CBC News

Found Alive - NY - Constantinos 'Danny' Filippidis, 49, Lake Placid, 7 Feb 2018
Aug 24 2018
"Danny Filippidis says he just wanted to capture a few memories.
His annual ski trip to Lake Placid, N.Y., with colleagues from Toronto Fire Services was drawing to a close when he realized he'd forgotten to bring a camera to the lodge where he was unwinding with friends about half-way up Whiteface Mountain.''

''He told friends he'd ski down to a car to retrieve his cellphone and return to document the end of their sojourn on the slopes. That quest led to a baffling journey the 50-year-old fire captain will likely never be able to fully remember.

Filippidis vanished on Feb. 7, triggering a massive ground search that involved state authorities, family and friends. When he surfaced six days later in Sacramento Calif., some 4,000 kilometres away, the veteran firefighter says he was just as mystified about his cross-country trek as everyone else."

''Doctors and police have since been able to fill in some of the blanks, determining that Filippidis' unusual ordeal came about as a result of a head injury sustained on that fateful trek to retrieve his cellphone.''

ZaZara mentioned above “kayak loaded with luggage tips over”. I have looked at the pic posted of the kayak. Would his luggage fit in that kayak? And what about the bag that held the kayak - where is it? Questions. Questions.

It is not known to the public what luggage Arjen had with him. That is why I asked earlier if there are images availalble of Arjen leaving from Amsterdam Airport.

A lot of luggage fits IN the kayak, ON the kayak and the kayaker may also carry a backpack. I posted a video somewhere... Would it be wise to take your laptop on a kayak tour.... not quite, but it is not known if he brought a laptop. Did the kayak have a waterproof floating bag for smaller items like phones? Probably, but not known officially.

The problem here is that Arjen, who allegedly was never interested in kayaking, all of a sudden starts to behave like an experienced kayaker, after no more than 10 days kayaking at sea (? ? ?)

I'm keeping the 3 scenarios open that the Norwegian police had/has. However: I consider the accident scenario somewhat less probable than the other two.

Arjens "strange" behaviour did not start the moment he checked out from Scandic Bodo, but before:
- Arjen had told friends, colleagues (and family?) that he was going to Spitsbergen. But he didn't go to Spitsbergen. Bodo and surroundings came as a surprise.
- Apparently he had bought a kayak before leaving and had never told anyone home about it (is that correct?)
- The last message exchange with Ancilla had been on the 7th of August. Other messages by Ancilla to Arjen remained unanswered. (What about other messages to family members?)

Then there are the strange traces Arjen left behind in the Bodo and Vikesa area:
- Checking out at 2pm and going for a kayak ride?
- Tarjeis tweet says: Big reach of the antenna, also covering place where kayak was found 10km away. ALSO covering.
The Tussvika antenna is merely 200 metres from the spot where the kayak was found. That leads me to believe that the ping was not at Tussvika, but somewhere else in or outside Fauske
- Then of course we have the pings in the Vikesa area, 10 days after Arjens disappearance. I have no reason to question those pings. How could police investigators make such a huge mistake if those pings would not have come from Arjens phone? We don't know who was carrying the phone at the time, but I do believe that it was Arjens phone.

@eeqaz: Update timeline
I have made some corrections to the timeline (last time I mixed up the hotels) and I have added the sources.
It seems that AK stayed at the Scandic for 1-2 night(s) only?

20. Aug: kl 17:30: A witness says he sees AK with a baggage in Rognan city center, just after the train from Bodø arrived. The same witness believes to observe him about kl. 20 and 21 walk down to the shore of the wharf area, first time with baggage, second time without bags. Is the following statement true due to signal coverage ? This can only be AK if he travelled by car from Rognan to Fauske as no train or busses went from Rognan to Fauske at that time. He did not have a drivers licence. By the end of September, this witness account has been classified as unreliable by police.

30. Aug. Signal from his mobile gives in 3 different base stations south of Stavanger. It is switched from Dutch to German SIM card, both registered on AK. The mobile phone is on for approx. 20 min. The police claim it has been opened with the SIM code. - Is this the same mobile that gave signal in Fauske ?No, AK had brought TWO phones with him. One pinged in/at Fauske. The other pinged at Vikesa. How do they know he used a code ?

Hi worldwatcher, Eeqaz asked that question, I think he meant Norwegian police?
Don't know but I did just edited the timeline post a bit> (added this) On the latest certain observation of Arjen Kamphuis , the 20th of August, he was wearing khaki colored hiking clothes.
I do take this in account that he had no place to change his outfit...after the check out of the hotel...

Here are some interesting lectures / presentations by AK e.a.

1. Cambridge - The Dangers of Success (Oct. 2017):

Description of "The Dangers of Success" can be found here:
William Binney is a cryptomathematician and former employee of the NSA. He designed the privacy-conscious surveillance program ThinThread. After more than 30 years with the agency, he resigned in protest and became a whistleblower, exposing the massive waste in expenditure, and privacy violations, in the NSA's new Trailblazer surveillance program. He is the recipient of numerous awards for social justice, including the Joe A. Callaway Award for Civic Courage, and the Sam Adams Award for Integrity in Intelligence.
Arjen Kamphuis worked for IBM as an IT-architect in the 1990s. From 2002 to 2010 he advised several European countries on IT-strategy, opensource and open standards. Since 2006 he has helped secure the information systems of corporates, national government and NGOs. His work ranges from regular privacy-compliance and security-awareness up to countering espionage against companies, journalists and governments. To keep up technically Arjen is involved with the global hacker-scene and keeps in touch with (former) employees of spy agencies and other professionals who work at the front of critical infrastructure protection.

To be honest I really dont know what to make of it...seems like we're circuling around & round..
seems like just after then, he is known missing, and the phone turns on and swithes cards
Do you think it was coincidence or conscious, that a day after his official reported missing the simcards were switched?

Regarding the ice-bears that AK apparently told someone he wanted to see- is that something he has done in the past, does he have a keen interest in the bears, could ice-bears be a code name for something or somewhere else?
Are ice bears the same as polar bears?
imo, speculation.
Sorry to quote my own post AND for suggesting the possibility of an association between polar bears and code words, but since i have already gone there, adding these links, fwiw, simple speculation, imo.

Could be...I dont think he went to Norway for a vacation,if that was the case...surely the hotel staff saw him at breakfast or other times at one of his stayings...so would other (Dutch) guest?

I do hope that the police asked for security tapes if the hotels had them..and wasnt erased, att.
