Not Happy About Weather In The South This Weekend

@mickey2942 not sure where you are in the south, but you are correct. Our homes are not built for extreme cold nor are our HVAC systems. Last year during our big freeze ours never cut off for several days and we really weren’t warm enough, it did help though. We got by but it’s something I don’t care to experience again.

Yes. I lived in Miami, and during a cold snap, even with the heat on, the house was still cold. I live in Montana now. We have only had one snowfall here this year, in October.

Once in Palm Beach Gardens, we went out to our car around 7am, it was in a carport, we got in our car, it was still dark out, and a giant alligator came galloping out from under the car! I guess he thought it was a warm place to sleep! Too scary! And they run FAST!

Meanwhile, in Sydney...

That's Celsius.

Take care everyone, and don't drive unless you have to! Hunker down and huddle together and stay safe.

It feels like -20 Fahrenheit here in New England

It's 7 degrees F here in the Cleveland area, and we are supposed to get 6-12 inches starting this evening. Got myself plenty of coffee and hot chocolate, and some trusty peanut butter crackers in case I run out of food.

In Mississippi our concern in these storms is always the ice storm. It is debilitating. The pictures (not mine) that I'm attaching are from 1994 where the MS delta was completely disabled for weeks. It's always in the back of our minds that this could happen again. Hopefully it won't be this bad this time. I am not in the delta. I'm in the area that we never know if we'll be above the line or just below. We are cooking chili and cornbread this morning and making sure we have enough gas. We keep a hurricane preparedness kit year round (plenty of non-perishables) and only have to make a few modifications for winter weather disaster. My daughter is further north and is really in the line for worse than we will get here. Again for clarification, pictures are not mine but photos shared from the 1994 devastating ice storm. Shared to illustrate what we can get here instead of a snowstorm. Stay safe everyone!!!!

Why are folks buying frozen food if there is a chance of a power outage?
I wondered that myself. Is it to keep everything in the freezer frozen longer? Didn't work for me in Helene. I'm thinking about putting my freezer stuff in a container on the front porch. I'm in WNC.

Here in southern Missouri we’re expected to get a foot of snow. I’m actually at work today:( so driving this morning wasn’t the funnest to say the least.
