Where did you see this? TIA

It was a young male reporter, with dark brown hair. He was showing the hotel and the sign. I'll see if I can find it again, since I watched it today.

Damn. No words here. Only tears and prayers.

Same here. So very sad :(

I find the brother's rambling interview interesting. In the first interview, it was like they were estranged. He had texted him a year ago, and didn't know much about him.

In the second, he acts like they were close. He says Steve is the reason he was able to retire early. Steve is the reason he has all this wealth, yadda yadda.

He's either grandstanding or actually hiding something. Will be interesting to see this play out.

Ok, I amend my statement to say he hadn't broken any laws (at least visibly/obviously) up until THAT moment. The point still stands. He managed to make a trek from home to this hotel, check in, and carry on for days before the act without drawing attention or notice. What would a well check by the police have done? JMO.

I don't think he broke any laws until he started shooting at people. He can own as many guns as he wants, and all the extras he purchased for his guns are also legal.

*Hotel security and the police couldn't have done anything. Even if they knew about the weapons he could have easily explained it away as he was in the city for a gun show or he was going to take them to a local pawn shop.

*eta: This is based on the information I read yesterday saying guns are allowed in the hotel. Which might not be the case and would change everything.

I don't make much of it but then that is just how I am. They first spoke to him very early on. The second one he has had more time to think. He obviously watched some news and saw things that were being said.. everything was sinking in more for him plus he had already given interviews to the FBI etc jmo

Well, since there was a sign that said no guns allowed in the hotel, he broke the law as soon as he brought that first firearm into the hotel. But... IMO, we're going to see other laws had been broken before this, only time will tell.
But could would not search his hotel room without a warrant. I don't feel comfortable saying his gf could have prevented this at this point.

Your childhood is NO EXCUSE for committing mass murder. I was also raised by a single (widowed) mother. Boo hoo! [emoji35]

My apologies if this has been brought up, but I've been wondering about it. Does anyone remember the shooter Peter Selis in La Jolla, CA? He shot and killed a women and wounded 6 others at a pool party at an apartment complex. He was supposedly despondent over a breakup with his girlfriend and called her on the phone while he was shooting at people. It seemed to me that in his sick mind he was punishing the girlfriend for the breakup and wanted to cause her pain and guilt for leaving him. Does anyone think something like this may have been at play in this case?

Question for anyone who might know: What is the long oval purple piece of "furniture" that SP used to store guns in his hotel suite? DH and I can't figure out what it is. :waitasec:

It's two chairs. He had that furniture arranged just SO. IMO [emoji35].

I don't either especially since we have no idea how much she knew, what their relationship was like, or what she might have tried to do. She's not responsible for his actions and is probably another one of his victims.

I see it now :blushing: Yes, two chairs arms-to-arms. DH and I thought it could be some kind of tub/Jacuzzi

On a personal note, I don't like the décor and would not be comfortable in that hotel.

Welcome to Vegas lol. But the casinos don’t want you spending time in your room anyway.

But It is that breaking the law or breaking hotel policy?

ETA I meant to reply to the post you also replied to. I agree that a well check wouldn’t have done much. The gf might not have even known he was at Mandalay.

You guys are misunderstanding the point of her post. Perhaps reading the post she was replying to and then reading hers as a reply to that post like it is a challenge. jmo

I wonder if the hotel brought the sign out and posted it AFTER the tragedy?
