Something I haven't heard discussed:
* The shooting lasted circa 10-15 mins.
* The shooter's door wasn't breached (immediately followed by his own suicide) for 40-60 minutes after the last shot was fired.

What did the shooter do for 40-60 mins after he stopped shooting and before his door was breached?

From what's been released, it appears he was laying on the floor dead.

Thousands attend popular gun show in Costa Mesa a week after Las Vegas mass shooting

I'm not sure how that is going to help? The guns didn't kill people~~SP did. If someone is going to try to kill people, they are going to do it using any type of weapon they can. Timothy McVeigh didn't need a gun to kill in OKC. The 9/11 terrorist used box cutters and planes. Terrorists used vehicles to mow down people in England. The problem is not the guns, its the people. What about all those people using 3D printers to print guns? How does making them illegal solve the problem? Criminals will find a way, where there is a will. So the question really should be~~How do we identify these people BEFORE they go on a rampage?

So the shooter was a PK of sorts.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/stephen-paddock-las-vegas-massacre-father-benjamin-hoskins-paddock-founded-church-bingo-parlour-fbi-a7989291.html

Father of Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock 'ran illegal bingo parlour and tried to start his own church'

I mean, a PK in the sense of the English language, technically, sure. Otherwise, his life seems about has far from the life of the average PK as one could imagine.

They're out of ideas and that's their best guess. But this is way beyond mental illness.

How about just evil...why is he given the mental illness pass...

I don't think I'll ever understand this evil vs. mentally ill debate.

I know there are evil people in the world. I get that. But when did science discover that evil people are genetically immune to mental illness? Not being snarky at all towards you Trvl4Lyfe, but I personally don't see why it would be impossible for a truly evil person to also suffer from depression or obsessive compulsiveness, or really anything in the entire range of disorders that afflict other human beings.

Even most people we'd probably all classify as evil don't typically commit murder on this massive scale.
And the vast majority of mentally ill people are not criminals.

But maybe this is the kind of stuff you get when those two things happen to coincide in one person.

Well the "distancing" has begun, Employees at local businesses in Mesquite have been told not to talk to the press about SP's
patronage of their establishments!! One employee of Dominos was suspended for mentioning SP was a frequent customer.
(Yes, the reporters actually mention Dominos by name. Once heard, can not be unheard.)
And the hair cutting place making sure they tell everyone that KB hasn't worked for them for 2 months....so what? She is still entitled to remember encounters with her customers. They are probably just p.o.'d that they can not silence or intimidate her with loss of her employment. Geesh....Here we have the FBI and local police asking for the public's help in trying to follow SP's activities, and people are being pressured by employers not to speak!!! I don't like it....I get it, but I still don't like it.

What does Jason have to do with anything? The girls were not at the concert. Two went over to the gate and were going to try to get cheap tickets. The other two decided to go do somethng else.

They started running when they saw people running and screaming. They had no idea what was going on. Then someone said it was an active shooter.

They went up some ramp and hid. The one girl was so terrified she could not even talk or think,

The other girl said they would be safer in their room so she pushed the other girl to go to the Paris where they were staying. They went in a side door and it was all dark and no one was there except SWAT . They had to go to a room, walking with their hands above their heads. It was a room with no furniture and about two, hundered other people.

At some point they were led out of that room to another, all walking with hands above their heads. Around four in the morning, they were released to go to thier room in the hotel

They do not know what happened to the people who wwre not staying in the hotel.

The other two girls stayed somewhere but did not have to walk with hands above their heads. I do not have their story at this point.

I'm wondering why they were trying to get tickets when the last song of the show and festival was playing.

-This is interesting to dissect. It didn’t occur to me until I saw comments on an editorial. Some questioned the Police getting there 1. “quickly”, others questioned 2. “they entered the room after he shot himself and died”.

1. They didn’t get there quickly.
2. I’m guessing the wording of the phrase can be confusing to some. Perhaps better “When they entered the room he was already dead from a shotgun to his head”.

I read “they did not know if there was *another* shooter and if a boobytrap was set up”. My question is what did they know and how could they know before entering the room? Did they assume he was dead because the shooting stopped? IMO this could have been communicated better.

It gets more complicated! For quite a bit they left it quote engaged subject --that has a lot more meaning or different than found by self inflicted.....

how does one quote engage a body on a floor?

Being mentally ill is never a pass/

It is an illiness

would anyone even think that someone without a leg got a pass by loading abus first?

its a medical problem. Like dialysis except in this instance the organ that is not functioning properly is the brain not the kidneys.

Being extreme here but lets say lou gehrig's disease or whatever , if left untreated, results in people going into shooting fits - I would bet as a society some effort would be made to try to understand it more thoroughly

IMO until society wise it is viewed as what it is -- an organ in distress- it will be basically tossed under the rug.....until the next one

and so it goes..................................

I did not know that Eric went ot Los Vegas.

n June, Stephen Paddock was prescribed the anti-anxiety drug diazepam — its brand name is Valium

be interesting to know provider -- was it a mental health professional??

But we have to keep source in our thoughts !

So now does this sound like he does not want his brain examined?

He wants to have his brother’s remains cremated and the ashes sent to their 89-year-old mother in Orlando.

he doesn’t know how much his brother was worth.

the Route 91 Harvest festival site has been divided into six sections to better manage the scene, FBI spokeswoman Sandra Breault said. Crime scene investigators are working section by section to sift through belongings, which include cellphones, wallets and purses. As investigators clear belongings in each section, those belongings will be made available to concert attendees at the assistance center, 3150 Paradise Road, inside the Las Vegas Convention Center’s south hall.

Talking to the press isn't the same as talking to law enforcement. These businesses don't want negative publicity. I doubt they give two craps if they talk to LE.

Stephen Paddock, the gunman who sprayed bullets on concertgoers Oct. 1 in Las Vegas, was “very unfriendly” while his girlfriend was just the opposite, says a man who interacted with both in a Reno casino.
John Weinreich, a former executive casino host at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in Reno, knew both Paddock and his girlfriend, Marilou Danley.
“I didn’t get a good vibe from him,” Weinreich said in an interview outside his home in rural Dayton near Reno. “The guy was very unfriendly, not social at all.”

“He always had his head down,”

I would imagine the autopsy has been done and DNA collected to see if he is responsible for other crimes over the course of his lifetime.

I am a leftie. I do my 8, 0 and o counter clockwise.
However I'm also very ambidextrous and only really write with my left hand. If that matters.

Obviously I didn't see inside his head. However the damage was much less than I anticipated.
He definitely didn't "blow his brains out" as the saying goes. There will likely be plenty to study.
Though some measurements may not be able to be taken. If there is a tumor or something, it should still be identifiable.

Wow.
So they are saying if I didn't want anyone in my room... they'd come in and investigate anyway? :scared:
I don't like to allow people in my hotel room because I don't trust anybody.
I wouldn't do well at one of his businesses.
Pretty sure statistically odds of that client being robbed are higher than them being a mass shooter.

I agree, I think he just lost more business than he gained with that too.

I thought he was a total crock also!

oh pls staff are babysitting guests -- that more offensive than some great thing.

Total PR run and it got a lot of play

all about money that is it moo

My understanding of the shooting only lasting for 11min and the SWAT team not breaching the door for around an hour was that SP stopped shooting when the lone security guard randomly walked by his room and he shot him in the leg through the door. I believe they think he spent the next little bit figuring out if he could still try to escape, but when he saw SWAT approach, he then shot himself.

Security guard alerted LE to shooters location via some sort of communication device but I think SWAT still had to clear the hotel room by room.

I may be wrong on this but I know I read this somewhere or heard in an interview. I'll try to find link.

Whoops! Now I see someone posted the interview with the guys who stormed his room :) missed that before!
