At least 3 fatalities in addition to the shooter
UNLV said shots were reported at Beam Hall, home to the business school, as well as the student union, which is next door.

The shooting was reported at 11:45 a.m. and police responded and "engaged" the suspect, authorities said.

#BREAKING: According to our investigators at the scene, we have three deceased victims and one additional victim in critical condition at a local hospital. The suspect in this #ActiveShooter incident is also deceased. We will update as soon as we can with accurate information.

Not again

Thoughts and prayers go to the families of the three victims. Also to the person in a critical condition.

Thank goodness that LE seemed to arrive on the scene rapidly and it looks like they acted quickly . Probably saved many more lives.

Same as with the "Route 91" shooting in 2017, I called and messaged my family and friends in Vegas, to make sure that they were safe.

One of my friends was fortunately not on campus, but she received a ton of text messages from friends telling her to stay where she was. Apparently, a lot of people had no clue what was going on...

I could see how that would happen, it is a large campus, and even if a text message was sent to students and staff, (I don't know if one was), but tons of other people are on campus, all of the time.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (KABC) -- The man suspected of opening fire at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas on Wednesday, killing three people and wounding a fourth, has been identified as 67-year-old Anthony Polito, law enforcement sources tell ABC News.

Polito is described as a college professor who previously worked in North Carolina and Georgia, and had sought a job at UNLV. He apparently did not succeed in that effort.

Campus police detectives confronted the gunman within minutes of gunfire ringing out on campus Wednesday. He was killed at the scene.

He was armed with a handgun.

Here is his personal website.

And LinkedIn:

I’m a college professor. MOO but it’s a pretty odd presentation of self professionally. My guess is that he was managed out of academia in 2017 (his last job as per LinkedIn) for reasons we can only guess. But he definitely isn’t an attractive candidate and I certainly wouldn’t get hired if this was the package I put forward. I imagine the combination of whatever reasons he was out of a job to begin with combined with whatever has happened in the past 6 years plus all the usual reasons we see largely white men creating these sorts of atrocities explain why this happened.

ETA: He’s also added a link to a doc on his LinkedIn with 109 pages of comments from students saying how great he is. This is also odd. And gives the vibes of someone who was disgruntled with university leadership and trying to make a point about something. JMO
