What are the sources for TN being abused and in the system? According to her mom she was raised by her grandparents who also raised Amari until very recently when she wanted him back and they had to return him because they did not have custody I think this is another case that proofs that legally grandparents need more rights in order to save these precious babies

If she was being raised by her grandparents, something went wrong with their supervision, because she got pregnant at age 12, gave birth at 13. And CPS took custody of the baby.

CPS in Clark County, NV is useless. I used to call about children as a mandatory reporter. Unless I had a kid in front of me, with a broken arm, who said, "My Mama's BF broke my arm.". (Which NEVER happens).

They wouldn't follow up on anything. Not one time in 12 years as a teacher, when I called was anything ever followed up on...except for one little boy, who was dead a few months later.

And the kids, they say, "Yeah, don't bother, I will go to "Christmas Box" house for a few days, end up back at home, and it will be worse.".

That’s so devastating.
I’m also a mandated reporter but I haven’t had to do anything with it yet. Though we did have a kid who’s mom was neglecting her medically...she had a bladder infection for 6 months. But unless there’s bruises, we can’t do jack.
I’m so sorry you try to help so badly and it falls on deaf ears. And I’m extra sorry that that kid ended up passing away.
That’s so devastating.

I wish that I was a person of faith. I would love to believe that, but cannot.
Same same.
It’s hard.
But I’m trying to remember his life could have been miserable and no one can hurt him anymore.

Pregnant at 12 is so hard on the body. I feel so bad for the teen version of this mom.

Right there with you guys. I can see why faith can be so comforting in these times.

Yeah, they "followed up" after he was dead. I don't understand it. INMO, CPS workers would actually have offices in local schools, after all, that is where children are...and be assigned to that specific geographic area. They would get to know the school officials, police officers, who serve that area.

The way it works now, you call a hotline, and never actually speak with a caseworker. Amazing that in my years as a teacher, counselor, and working in substance abuse for women with children, I can count on my hand how many times I spoke with a CPS worker, and 2x it was extremely unpleasant.

Well, it won't help Amari, but INMO, the CPS system is broken. There needs to be some serious, ground up innovations.

I don’t think anyone is suggesting the grandmother’s family dysfunction killed anyone, after all, she’s not a suspect or POI, that’s all on TH.
No one made him kill a child.
There are, however, multiple comments on what is an acceptable display in public of grief, so I can only assume that’s okay to discuss.
I know the pain of grief and it's overwhelming and so lonely. I can see the grief in the grandma, but it hurts me to see her turning to reporters and to online venues to express that grief. To me, it seems that she has no other grounded support to turn to...and that worries me for all the survivors of this tragedy right now. No matter what, this is a hard journey for them and I hope for the best.

Re Grandma:

Personally, the last thing on my mind after losing a loved one would to go on SM or MSM. I guess some handle it differently. Me, not in a million years.

You are in Utah or NV? I’m not going to get into defending CPS here or not, but kids go to Child Haven here. We don’t have Christmas Box in Clark County.

I thought that CPS was required to follow up on all reports made to them by mandatory reporters, but you are saying that isn't true in NV, in your experience / opinion? If not, I can only say :eek::mad::mad:

I am not discounting the personal experiences of the previous poster in ANY way, I want to be clear. In fact, I had the most infuriating conversation with a Clark County CPS case worker yesterday, so I’m not really in a mood to be very supportive of them. But I have always had speedy response as a mandatory reporter here. I’m sad and upset that the previous poster has not had the same because that’s illegal, dangerous and tragic. All moo and based on my own personal experience.

I am so sad for Amari, and angry for what happened to him. So many could have helped/stopped it from happening, yet he fell through the cracks. I am angry at everyone that knew what was happening, or happened in the past.

Same. But in grandma’s defence, people on fb were attacking her in the beginning. IMO the reason she was so forthcoming with all the info she put out there was to clear her own name, and make it clear that she had no idea nor involvement in what happened to Amari.

It's understandable, but I wish they had wise advisors who could tell them to stay off social media for awhile. It's not the healthiest of places to be.

My opinion only.

Has the 911 call been released? I think it may yield vital information.

This is the way. You can't win on social media.

When was the last time the father, paternal grandparents, aunts, etc saw Amari?
I’ve driven 6-7 hours one way to see a family member for the weekend.
Allegiant Air flys RNO to LAS for $64 round trip.
How many times did the maternal grandmother contact CPS?
Did anyone on the paternal side also contact CPS?
:(
