He was unemployed at the time of his disappearance and had a drinking problem. The last trace of him was on March 30, when he filled out and mailed an unemployment card. His unemployment check was mailed to his post office box on April 6; his wife saw it in the box.

When she checked later it was gone, and she found out it had been cashed, but she could find out no other information and future unemployment checks were canceled. Few details are available in Luiz's case.

Thanks for creating a thread for Joe @coffeeandacig ! I didn’t think to read his CP or DN profiles . I think he’s a very good possibility for our Kentucky UID! The skull has very visible signs of trauma which may not necessarily have been quite as obvious outwardly. And there’s no telling exactly when that photo of Joe was taken. I’d assume that he sustained some sort of injury to his face if he had wire in his jaw.

If he had a drinking problem, it’s possible he may have been involved in a physical altercation or a vehicle accident that caused it. I’m just theorizing at this point, but I’ll definitely submit Joe with the couple of other possible matches to the UID when I get time. If anyone beats me to it I won’t be offended ;)

Thanks again for all your help!

Many questions, why would he pack a suitcase and just walk away when it's noted that there was a working vehicle at the home he could have taken. Why did he submit a unemployment card 20 days later. Where was he staying then? Why did the wife leave the unemployment check in the post office box and not take it with her to show law enforcement if he was missing? It was gone when she checked again and was cashed it's stated. Who cashed it??? there should be a signature and if it was done at a check cashing place or bank they would have requested id back then. Strange case and seems like something is not right

Bumping up for Joe and his family.

Clarification is needed, maybe by a relative if one is reading here and wants to become a verified insider and discuss the case.

- Why do sources say he packed a suitcase but also that he did not take a suitcase?
- What does it mean on his CP page that future unemployment checks were cancelled? By whom?
- Did he say anything at all to anyone before he left home on foot?
- Did he have friends or relatives in other states he may have gone to?

I think like you something strange is here although it may also be that with his alcohol problem he has been run over or assaulted and murdered but there is something strange here.

Perhaps Joe lost his licence because of the alcohol addiction, one reason not to take his car.

Agreed. I hope someone can become a verified user and explain this case further.

Why did the wife not grab the cheque when she saw it in the mail? Why leave it in the mailbox if he said he wasn't coming back?

I am assuming the conflicting details/circumstances are due to it coming from two separate sources. Likely their explanations of what happens are at odds with each other. One person saying one thing, and another person saying another.

I am Joe's daughter. The day he disappeared he had been home making repairs from a drunken rampage the previous weekend. He was with his friend Doug. Doug had left to go home and said he was going to return. Later that day he called and said he wasn't going to come back because it was raining (flash floods & hail)
My mom left the check in the box for him. Figuring he was just holed up with one of his short flings. His future checks were not canceled per se. They were never applied for or claimed (as you put in a weekly request for nv unemployment)
He had not packed or taken a suitcase. That's an error.
The wire in his jaw and the scar on his face were do to fights he had been in. He was not a big guy but he was not someone anyone wanted to get into a brawl with. He was well known in his hometown for this.
No one knows why he didn't take his car. I figured Doug decided to take his chances and drive anyway. Doug's wife had called months later and told my mom he had picked him up. But that was chalked up to her bring a disgruntled ex as they had divorced between then and his disappearance.
To be blunt my dad had many sides but while drinking the only side you saw was bad. He had no regard for my mom or his family as he would sleep with other women. Some of which were married. He would beat my mom. He was abusive with me as well and had started abusing my younger sister. The youngest sister was still too small but it was inevitable.
what this fails to mention is my mom had pulled a large amount of money from her retirement to catch up on house payments they had fallen behind on. He had taken that money and went to the bar with his friend Doug prior to his drunken rampage caused by his breaking into my storage unit and finding a suicide letter I had written at least 2 years before. During that drunken destruction he had blown a hole in the ceiling with a shotgun. Destroyed nearly everything my mom had from my grandma's home after her passing in 89. I was told not to come home that weekend because I was the focus of his anger. All due to that letter I had placed in my baptismal Bible that was packed in one of many boxes.
That weekend my mom's sister and her family had come to town unannounced and were forced to visit with her outside, for fear of waking him.

I hope this answers your questions. If anyone has any info regarding his whereabouts please come forward so that there's closure at least.

Wow, thank you so much for providing all that information!

Alcohol abuse and domestic violence often go hand in hand, and I'm so sorry you and your family had to experience this at the hands of your father. It can also complicate things because, in such a case, often the only witnesses are other "drinking buddies," so to speak, so their recollection can be impaired.

If you care to share, what do you believe happened?

I don't want to point fingers unnecessarily, but from what you mention, could Doug or another one of his associates have found out about the large sum of money your father now had, and they decided to rob him for it? It could've been accidental, or even intentional but under the influence.

Could a jealous husband have retaliated against Joe for sleeping with his wife?

Do you think it was your dad who returned secretly around April 6 to cash the unemployment check? Or could it have been someone else?

You said you weren't there the weekend prior (March 6–8?). Does this mean you also weren't there on March 10, the last day he was seen? The article above mentions other daughters were present. What did they see, or what do they remember?

I would encourage you to become a Verified Insider here on Websleuths. This way, anything you post does not need to be supported by links to mainstream media (MSM) because you're verified as a family member, or someone close to the case.

I hope we can all find out answers on here together.
