He is not listed as a rule out on Namus.
NAMUS lists Shaw as 196 pounds, and the rest of the data fits. If the 196 pound weight is from a driver's license, Shaw could have weighed more at the time of death, depending when the license was issued.

In an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Coroner Melanie Rouse said the agency now has a DNA profile, but that the profile is only as good as what it can be compared to.

The profile was uploaded to a federal government database called CODIS on Dec. 8, 2022. CODIS is an acronym for Combined DNA Index System and maintains databases of DNA from criminals, crime scenes and missing people.

Genealogy is the way to go on this one, for sure. Everything suggests that this Doe ended up in the lake in the seventies or eighties, at the latest. Fifty years.

The Clark County Coroner's Office says it's looking into new leads regarding abody found in a barrel at Lake Mead.

The coroner's office told News 3 on Monday that it is following up on tips and leads reported both before and after they posted the evidence on Namus.

Police say they believe the body was dumped in the late 1970s or early 1980s.

Howard Sherwin Tokarsky, MP52695, went missing on 12/14/1984 at the age of 45. He had a height of 5’9” and weight of 200 with brown hair and brown eyes. He was an avid collector of German guns and worked as an Operations Manager for Sylmar chemical company. Early that morning he left his Granada Hills home to do some shooting practice at an unspecified high desert site. Less than 24 hours later, his Ford Bronco was found behind a market at the intersection of Hwys 58/14 on the outskirts of the Mojave. Keys were still in the ignition, as well as wallet with no cash, and broken prescription glasses on the floor. Also missing were 3 guns; Weatherby Mark XXII .22 long rifle, a German MP-40 9mm, and a S&W Mod 41 .22 pistol. I was unable to find information about what caliber of bullet was used on this UID. Howard’s friends surmise that his target practice may have inadvertently interrupted a meth operation. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a gray/red reversible jacket, and black shoes.

Definately could be the body in the barrel. If the reconstruction is accurate, alot of similarities can be seen including the defined jawline, overall face shape and nose.

5'9 and 200 IBS/90kg, would he wear a 46 inch pant, seems quite big for his frame, but clothing back then was smaller and another user mention in this thread that the clothes were made in Korea.

It's interesting these remains have all turned out to be men who drowned, rather than murder victims, aside from the obvious murder victim in the barrel. Finding the remains of drowning victims who were all known to be drowning victims or presumed drowning victims is less headline getting I guess, but it is something that probably should have been considered more of a possibility.
Yes, happy they’ve been identified! Wondering if the Thread Head should be modified to reflect same. Mob hits/serial killers are definitely more engrossing for lots of folks though JMO

I'm unclear as to if this body in the barrel has been identified?

It has not. But three others have been identified as known drownings.

The clothing the man in the barrel was wearing feels very blue collar. Reminds me of clothes you buy for work, expecting them to get pretty beat up. Possibly a mechanic.

Howard Sherwin Tokarsky – The Charley Project
Found this on the charley project

Foul play is suspected in Tokarsky's case. He worked as an operations manager for the Sylmar chemical company in 1984, and left behind a wife and two young children. He was declared legally dead in May 1985, less than five months after his disappearance.

Looks to have been a white collar worker, although I could see a manager wearing these clothes, as the shirt was a check button up. Also the shoes, would a blue collar worker wear velcro casual shoes?

Cases submitted to NamUs, and all agencies involved.

Yesterday, I discovered that the timeframe given for the man found in a barrel at Lake Mead is incorrect after a reddit user by the name of SilverScimitar13 provided a source showing Trax Velcro athletic shoes originally sold in 1984. It was suggested by police that the UID was probably killed in the late 70s to early 80s given the items found with him. But after some research, I found that the Trax brand shoes first began advertising in the newspapers and selling athletic Velcro shoes around Aug 21, 1983, however, the specific shoe design (Men's wide-width joggers; navy) found with the body wasn't advertised until around Sep 2, 1988 and into 1990. There was a 1987 design but it was different. This now pushes the estimated timeframe forward a decade.

Over a year ago, I had submitted missing Pavel Kocsis but given that he went missing in 1982, it is definitely not going to be him. With a more likely timeframe, I found a missing person I believe is a great potential match: Floyd Roydell Newman who went missing from Needles, CA. According to The Doe Network, Newman's DNA isn't available, however, dental is available.

While Newman doesn't align with the estimated age range by 3 years, here's what does align:

-Timeframe. Newman went missing on March 1st, 1992 within the adjusted timeframe.

-Proximity. Needles, CA to Lake Mead is only a 95 mile drive, and according to Newman's case file, his truck was found 1/2 mile off of Route 95 which is nearly a direct shot to Lake Mead and the precise location where the barrel was dumped.

-Clothes. My research suggests that Newman may have been a rancher in the Pinto Valley, CA area, and the clothing he was wearing may have been suitable for his work. Since he was a heavier, older man, he may have chose to wear athletic Velcro shoes over boots for ease and comfort.

-Resemblance. While it's difficult to match him up to the forensic facial reconstruction given his squint, extra weight, and glasses on his face, he aligns fairly well, and even has the cleft in his chin.

-Size. Newman is a larger man and may fit into the 46" waist, 30" length pants.

Newman seems to have been involved in local government, and may have bought land with other investors, and then resold smaller parcels.

Perhaps a different time frame for when he died will help ID him. Inaccurate estimations of when Does died, as well as inaccurate age ranges, definitely impact identification in many cases. As well, it's possible they have gotten somewhere with genetic genealogy on this Doe and it's not publicly known.
