Is the tape a marker or does it hold evidence down? I figure - wouldn’t new dust/dirt get on the truck from being towed, or evidence could fly away?

Some of the tape may be markers for prints, but it is more likely that they are tamper-proof seals, to ensure that the doors, windows, gas cap, rear window are not opened by any unauthorized person. JMO

We knew about this thanks to someone here who found it right after he was arrested. Just in case it hasn't been posted yet:

Suspect in kidnapping of Naomi Irion, 18, is ex-convict who served time for meth dealer's murder | Daily Mail Online

<snip>

Criminal records show that Driver, who previously lived in California, was convicted in 1997 of accessory to a murder after the fact in relation to the killing of 19-year-old Paul Steven Rodriguez.

Driver's rap sheet in California also includes convictions on charges of second-degree robbery and burglary.

Ukiah Daily Journal reported that in April 1997, Rodriguez, who was a methamphetamine dealer from Willits, California, was shot in the head by his 17-year-old girlfriend, Alissa Marie Moore.

Driver, who was 17 years old at the time, and 19-year-old Carl Herbert Dulinksy, helped Moore dispose of Rodriguez' body and hide his torched car in a nearby woods.

The trio of suspects were arrested after the victim's remains were discovered two weeks after the killing.

Driver's sister, Sharla Driver Cassidy, was also implicated in his crimes after she admitted to driving the car used to lure Rodriguez to his death. She also acted as the getaway driver in her brother's robberies, which he claimed to have committed to help his sister buy plane tickets to Italy.

Four months later, Driver pleaded guilty to the accessory charge related to the murder. He also admitted to robbing a convenience store and a service station, and to breaking into a hardware store.

Driver was sentenced to 15 years in state prison but was released after 12 years.

Since regaining his freedom more than a decade ago, Driver settled in Nevada, living in Elko County, and, more recently, in Lyon County.

<modsnip>I am very curious about the witness in the car...from the family's FB post (I'm paraphrasing) it says the family has put out a statement saying that they will not go after or testify against anyone who came forward. Now I don't really believe he planned this alone. Imo. Did anybody else catch this?

Here it is:

Any idea why there's tape on the back of the mirror?
If you mean the back panel window, it's because it is a sliding window that can open into the truck. It was noted by LE when they put out the APB abut the truck, and they said was a dealer-installed accessory. It wasn't visible in the Sherwin-Williams photo, so clearly, LE had other photos of the truck.

That's exactly what they are. Tamper-proof seals

Wow! It's clearly not a new wound...But makes you wonder who in the past was in a struggle with him and bit his ear. Really wonder if he's a serial predator. Something about him, I feel like there's more going on here.
Could be something like an accident caused it . Relative of mine had a car crash , and a tin of household paint, newly purchased , was on the back seat . Impact caused lid of tin to fly off and slice top half of his ear clean off . Looks exactly like this injury , quite spooky when I seen mugshot

I have to believe that video was retrieved from all the businesses around the Sherwin Williams plant, and will go so far as to say I would almost bet that LE know exactly where her attacker's truck was parked while he was in her car, and probably have footage of him returning to his truck after ditching her car. The back of the side mirror is what I meant.

Clearly, none of us knows, but I don't think this case is going to prove to be nearly that convoluted. I think it is going to come down to a sexual predator that saw a young woman, decided he wanted to take her, stalked her long enough to learn her routine, and then at his first opportunity, did what he had set out to do. JMO
His criminal history tells us he’s never been convicted of a sexual offense. The way he behaved in the video said a lot about him. The weird walk everyone was referring too. That’s the inmate walk. They have to stay on the yellow line wherever they go in the prison. He was locked up for 12 years, he knows the rules. You don’t do certain things, if you want to survive inside. This guy follows the rules because he’s still a member of the club. He may not be as active, but if the price is right, he’s all in.
Praying Naomi is returned safely

Not sure about why there’s tape there. I do know it’s a popular place for fingerprints though if the control isn’t in the car.

I’m thinking that the tape is used as a seal. To seal the evidence inside the truck and because they have to maintain the integrity of whatever evidence is inside. Kind of like with evidence bags, or on the door of a crime scene. The truck is being moved from one location to another, so the tape will ensure no one gets inside the vehicle to tamper with anything of evidentiary value.

If you wanted to make up that story, you couldn't. My God, what are the odds of a tin of paint lid slicing half your ear off.

Just saw the new mugshot. Wow, what happened to his ear!?! It looks like it was bitten off.

Yes, it looks to me like a bite shape. I much prefer to imagine it happened in prison versus by a girl fighting for her life against a serial predator.

If it happened in prison I’m not sure if they get him medical help to reattach it, but if it happened while attacking a girl he almost certainly would not seek help to get it reattached as that would attract attention in the immediate aftermath.

LE clearly wants to make sure that any forensic evidence inside that truck is not compromised by sloppy handling. I understand they are not a big city department, but they did that right! That truck is locked down like Fort Knox. Well done guys!
Not to discount the local sheriffs, but I’m pretty sure the investigation is being led behind the scenes by the FBI and the best investigators in the world. This case involves family of a State Department diplomat (who coincidentally has close ties to Russia and Ukraine).
