I keep wondering if someone in Anthem could have been renting one of the casitas? or If someone was going to be gone for a few weeks or month (X-mas/Hannakah) they might need a housesitter or possible rent/house for that time period. Everyone is travelling to relatives or vacationing with relatives at that time. Maybe a house swap situation.

What do SCA's HOAs say about that?

HB, that's one of the Deseret Industries we've talked about here so much.

First, you go through your Bishop.
Then...........

I don't think so, because it states you don't have to be Mormon for the service they are providing.
Still, why didn't he do this? Even if the Mormon people would have to go thru the Bishop? Makes no sense.
I was wondering why the church didn't help.....and here was his opportunity. Something's screwy.

Not sure about the casitas, but I don't think they could say anything about a housesitter and anyone that would rent for that time could say they were housesitters.

The job applications in SK's car do add another dimension to things, but do we know if they were filled out/blank/combo? It also just doesn't make any sense, if he took a trip to Vegas to either pick up or drop off job apps, that he would leave late at night and spend the night in his car when he could have gotten a good night's sleep in his own bed. He wouldn't have even gotten to Vegas until after midnight. And yet when they needed him for priesthood meeting the next day, he was willing to drop everything and head back up to St. George. Maybe he just took his calling really seriously. I dunno.

I think so. I'm in a DI store several times a week. Four of them, just on Saturday. Actually, five on Saturday. We donate to them, we shop there. We're not LDS, but we get a close-up view of how the system works.

What link says that non-Mormons don't have to go through their Bishop?

He. Went. Through. His. Bishop. Remember?

Steven's Bishop told him "we'll have a job for you by the first of the year', Steve WAS going through the required channels. We don't know if the Bishop was going to refer him to the church welfare system, or ask the people in the ward if they had work for Steven.

Is this what you call "rallying" - ??

I've sent questions to Naegle. We'll see if she can dig anything up.

I agree that it doesn't make any sense, but when very specific words like "numerous job applications" are spoken by a father, we have to take the man at his word.

But you don't know that, unless you check the HOAs -- right? That's why I asked.

I just finished writing some of the same thoughts.

Regarding Saturday evening 12/12/09 and Sunday morning 12/13/09

The time from the purchase at K-Mart until Steven is seen at his apartment is approximately two hours.
Are there any thoughts about where he is? Church Services? Singles Ward function? Library, if open that late? or using a computer/printer at the home of a friend perhaps?

Then from the 10:30 p.m. sighting by the neighbors until the phone call from GW at 8:57 a.m. Sunday, is a period of 10 hours, 27 minutes. By the end of the period he has driven to Las Vegas, but when did he drive?

Does he have any friends in Vegas with whom he might spend the night? With no money, I would guess his car would be his motel for the night. But - why not spend the night in his own bed and leave St. George at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday morning? Because of the 10:30 p.m. sighting and the 8:57 a.m. phone call, Steven could have slept at a friend's in St. George, slept in a motel, or slept in his car.

While we cannot see whether his clothes are rumpled from sleeping in his car, my bet is they were not. I think he "upgraded" to a real bed - either at a friends or at a motel.

See the link I provided (bottom of) in the orginal post. It (website) provides services for people who are unemployed and/or that need job skills. Why didn't Steven do this in April/May when he first became unemployed? He may have needed to go thru the Bishop for help with finances, but maybe not with job help. From the way it sounds, you just walk in and sign up.

Put the wine glass down. Read the link. I'm explaining.

If he had been at a Church service or singles ward function, he'd have been among several people and we'd have a "sighting" from that.

Library? Possible. Did you check the website to see if they'd be open on a Saturday night from 8-10pm?

If at a friend's house, that friend has absolutely not come forward, has s/he?

Then from the 10:30 p.m. sighting by the neighbors until the phone call from GW at 8:57 a.m. Sunday, is a period of 10 hours, 27 minutes. By the end of the period he has driven to Las Vegas, but when did he drive?

....or came back home. Unless the neighbor was standing outside all night, we really don't know if he came and went....unless there was some indication inside his room, that he did so. He actually had the entire house to himself.
His room was found "tidy" (a bit better than usual, according to the landlord).

Do you really believe people follow the HOA's to a T? No way. Do they go around checking--knocking on people's door to check? I don't think so.

IF they wanted to let the HOA know---they could just say "Mr brother/sister/other relative is housesitting for me."

Definitely. I see no reason not to take him at his word. What I am trying to say is that this new bit of information has not made anything jump into focus, fall into place, or made SK's actions seem any more cohesive.

I do appreciate your tireless efforts and well-thought-out replies.

Leaving his house after only being home for 20-30 minutes really is odd... But, it's about enough time to take a quick shower ? Only thing I can think of that would propel Steven to make the late night trip to Vegas would be to meet someone. There was not a paper trail of any receipts found from this last Vegas trip ? He could have stayed with someone. Wonder what time GW went down to Vegas ? Wonder where he stayed ? IMHO I suppose it's just about possible that the two events, Steven driving down to Vegas late Saturday night to meet someone, and his vanishing the next day are NOT connected....

Nice......

'bye, folks.

Please come back, Laytonian. I absolutely love reading your posts - they are one of the things that initially drew me to this thread. Hollyblue has been an amazing contributor as well. The lack of new information coming out is frustrating, for sure. I would love to know, as LizB asked, when exactly GW left for Vegas. Why are all questions about GW 'taboo' i.e, never answered? I wonder...

From "How do I know Steven comments "
He had a love for playing the guitar but gave it up because it could ruin his life.

I know Steven from the 26th ward in West Valley City

another knows him when he worked in construction.

another tells of surfing behind a boat and cliff jumping

another talks of seeing him on Dec.9th and commenting to him on how supportive he was

These comments give a glimpse of his personality, would be nice if more commented on the page. I paraphrased all comments.
