They did? To the exact street? Wow. Where did you read that? Do you still have source?

Is it possible that when dropped in water, a cellphone will short-circuit to some default before going dead?

The next day, Amber's cell phone was turned on when someone attempted to check the phone's voice mail, police said.
The signal was picked up by a cell tower on Amber Lane in northern Escondido.
The tower covers a 5-mile radius, which means the phone could have been just about anywhere in Escondido.

You are right, I do not know what I was thinking. LOL I must be getting tired.:blushing:

im also curious and asked a few posts back what type of women he liked. its usually pretty normal for guys who are friends to tell each other the type of woman who turns them on or fantasize about. even when their hanging out its normal to ogle attractive women and sometimes theyll even disagree and mention they prefer dark haired or blonde, slim or asian or cucasian or latina or even actresses they find attractive. you know - guy talk. and women should be able to relate to this because ive overheard them when they girl talk about guys. yet theres been no response to this query. which makes me wonder - how normal was he? was he shy around them - outgoing - confident- joker- prankster- did he like older women or much younger?
did he think that AN was destined for him since it appears from her bio that she is definitely musically inclined and possibly gifted. they shared something in common - music ! HELLO!:waitasec:
Well? anybody? buehler? buehler? anybody? COMMON PEOPLE! those who know him should be able to answer this query-it shouldnt be difficult!

He never mentioned to me a hair type or anything. However, every girl I saw him with had dirty blondish hair and they were attractive but not drop dead gorgeous either. He was very respectful of women. Unlike with my other friends, we never discussed women's body types (guy talk). Like I've said before, he really believed in god and acted that way. I even wanted to set him up with my sister.

I wouldn't say he was shy with girls but a bit more reserved than he would be with good friends. Very normal for most guys.

Something that came to mind after re-reading what his "best" friend from Texas wrote, and what GS has shared with us recently...Steven basically stopped answering calls and texts from his friends that were married and had gone on with their lives.

This was not just in the last month, but one for sure was. Still took calls from his family, GW and other men in his ward. I wonder if there are any other friends from his past that had tried to get ahold him and were not able to.

Both of the men mentioned above, appeared to have been genuine and close friends of Steven, both of whom he discussed other women, school and career decisions with. The one thing that bothers me, is no one ever met these women. Unless, GS I missed something...had you ever met any of the girls he was upset over?

I don't know why he didn't answer my few attempts to reach him. I figured it was his phone or that he was too busy.

I met the girl he broke up with. She was attractive and really fun. I thought they were a perfect match.

Steven sounds like a really nice guy, with the length of time passing since he went missing, I just do not think this is going to end well. I wish it could be that he took off to start a new life, however, in my opinion I do not think that happened. Hope I am wrong , though. JMO

And the other thing I keep thinking about is the call to voice mail on the Monday. If that was him then whatever happened to him happened on the Monday. So was he calling vm. hoping to hear from someone? Such a mystery.

I wonder why someone would check voice mail on Monday, December 14th - unless the voice mail indicator on the phone showed one or more messages waiting. And then I wonder who had called and left a message. I know that the message(s) could be old ones. Just a thought. I wish we knew all the answers.

That seems odder and odder the more I think about it. I can't even come up with a reasonable scenario.

For some reason, I think the messages he probably checked were saved (old) ones. Wouldn't LE know who called and left a message? I think it would show up on a cell phone bill and we'd have the answer by now of who left the message....JMO

I have one -- a finder called it
What's the first thing you do, when you lose your phone?
You call it.

If you don't need your phone, you might throw it into the desert.

What's the first thing you do, when you find someone's phone?
You check to see if the owner has called it, and left a message on it.

Phone goes dead before you can get much information....if any. All that shows are a bunch of old calls. The phone's going dead, so you throw it in a drawer or turn it in to the HOA lost and found. @@@------/,/,/,/,/,/,/

I wonder if Fasteddy4 would be willing to go to the HOA offices, with a plastic evidence bag ;) and ask if anyone has found a phone. Put it in the bag and then call the Henderson PD. It would need to be recharged to see what's been going on.

There's two possibilities:
Steven had his phone 12-16 hours later, and called VM himself.
The phone was found, and the finder called VM in an attempt to locate the owner.

(I'm really hoping for #2, because that would give us a location IF that finder would come forward.)

AT&T made it possible for LE and the family to hear all of the phone messages. (Just because you delete them from the phone, doesn't mean they can't be recovered.)

Did we ever determine if he voicemail automatically put his password in? I know mine doesn't. Someone finding it would have to know my password to check it. Also, do we know how long that call was?

I wonder if Steven wasn't returning calls because he couldn't. I have a friend who gets behind on his cell phone bill and they allow him to receive calls but he cant place any calls until he gets caught back up. So if Steven missed the call he wouldn't be able to call back. Maybe he also knew it was a good friend calling and thought it would use up quite a few minutes to talk them and "catch up" and he didn't want to use up the few minutes he had. just a thought

So when they do that, you are still able to access your voicemail?

If I were LE, I'd have stepped up at that press conference and described Steven's cell phone:

HOLD ONE UP JUST LIKE STEVEN'S and say "If you have found or purchased a used (brand, model, color) cell phone since Dec 13th 2009, please turn it in for a $500 reward with information on how/where you obtained it."

Good point, in several missing women cases, they have done just that.

What about jewelry. Did he wear a watch or a ring ? Anything that could be found or pawned.

Don't most cell phone voicemails have a password you have to type in to check your VM's? Mine does but I am pretty ignorant about cell phones in general so I am sure there is a way to turn that feature off.

I have found 2 cell phones and I never even thought of checking the VM's - not that it is a bad idea, it just never occured to me. I always scrolled through the list of contacts looking for Home, Mom/Dad and/or Work.

This is exactly what I did when I found a phone in the parking lot. I called the most recent number that looked like family and ended up talking to the girl's aunt.
Never would I have thought to check vm, but that could just be me.

If the "can't call out" theory is right, maybe all they could do is check voicemail?

Neither did the person who found my phone, four years ago. Fifteen minutes after I knew I'd lost it, I called it and no one answered so I left a voicemail saying "I am the owner of this phone Please call me at (other number) so I can give you a reward in return for finding my phone." Yet, they continued to use it for about half a day until it went dead, according to my later billing records. Just local calls, no one called Brazil.
