Tylor Fu, 29, was arrested for battery after he punched Richard Gross, 80, in the face after Gross was sentenced on Oct. 2. Fu said that he suffered years of sexual abuse by Gross as a child.Fu was placed in handcuffs and arrested for misdemeanor battery.

Gross was initially charged with 26 felony counts related to the alleged sexual abuse of a child. He entered an “Alford plea” to one felony count of attempted lewdness with a child under the age of 14. An “Alford plea” is when a defendant enters a plea of guilty because they believe there is a likelihood of a conviction. This is while the defendant does not admit to committing the crime.

I’d want to punch him, too.

Hope Tylor gets a free pass. Totally understandable.

No risk to the public, after all.

Only to a lone convicted child abuser.

Don't completely endorse the approach, won't argue with it, either.

Court dropped the ball on this one. Wonder if there will be coverage of the lawsuit?

If indeed the prosecutors believed that this case was weak for a range of reasons (time elapsed, I’m sure there were a lot of other reasons they could cite): I still believe, MOO, that this was a misread on the prosecutors’ part. I put myself in the hypothetical shoes of a juror watching testimony from a male 29yo with children testifying against an 80yo former babysitter with allegations of abuse from ages 8 to 15, and - short of some truly edge-case and bizarre facts and circumstances - I would believe that 29yo. Forget the punch, I’m saying way before the punch, way before any verdict: I wholeheartedly believe a 29yo man who puts his life out for examination so publicly after an experience like that, with all the baggage that comes with it, the impact on family relationships, friendships, relationship to shame, so much weight. If I’m ever on a jury in a case remotely similar: I believe that guy. I see it as a mistake that prosecutors pled it for the Alfred. I see cases like this honestly the way I see prosecution of extremely elderly war criminals. Are they risks to society now? Probably not … is it healing as hell for the victims they leave behind to slam a cell door shut? YES. I choose the latter.
