Also, I reached out to the Audubon Society for help with the bird identification. Still waiting for a response from that.

I have a Facebook post out to the friends at a nearby raptor conservation program. I'll see what they come up with.

One of my theories is the killer is a relative. He called the car in abandoned because he wanted the body found. When it wasn't found, he called again. His motive for wanting the body found is 1) he wanted to end other relatives' suffering not knowing what happened; and/or 2) life insurance money. (I referred to the caller as a "he" for convenience.) This would mean the victim is fairly local.I'm curious, with what you all know of the case (which I know is limited and isn't as much as we may have), I'd like to hear some theories regarding the case.
Mmarty, were there any traces of blood found on the blanket that was located at the makeshift campsite near where the victim was found? (If you're able to tell us.) Just curious if there's evidence he was wrapped in the blanket after being stabbed. Or, if not blood, was there any hair or other dna found that might link the victim to this blanket (before or after being stabbed)?
As my partner stated earlier, thank you all so very much for the hard work and effort you are all putting in to help us give this victim his identity back and hopefully get him back to his family. I wish we could brief all of you on every aspect of the case, but we can not. There are truly some amazingly talented minds at work with us here.
As far as the pic of the t-shirt goes, I am not seeing the eyes or the beak.

Quoting my earlier post to study the picture again...and I zoomed in to see something (I think?). Check the photo below and tell me if you think you see an eye and a downward bending beak at the arrows? If you don't, no problem...but I'm thinking I'm seeing a 3/4 angle view of a falcon-like face with its downward-hooked beak below the blue-gloved fingers here:
Or...maybe I've been studying too many bird tee shirts and my mind is drawing birds for me, now...
Is our age range 35 to 50 or 30 to 60?
Okay. Thanks. I was going by 30 to 60, and that's how I ended up providing a few in their mid-20s earlier. Now I'll switch to 35 to 50, and go outside 5 years in both directions. The age range is 35 to 50, but don't be afraid to post a possible match even if they are outside that range by a few years. I'd rather have a few more names to rule out later than to have our guy slip through the cracks somehow.
I was thinking Hawk feathers also. That was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the stripes.

ETA: The more I look at it I'm changing my mind back to a Falcon
~
Yeah, I already saw that and deleted him. He seemed so hopeful being from Tahoe too.Note - Brian Ranken was #5 on our previous list and was ruled out by LEO by dentals.
I think it's an illusion because a portion of the circle is missing near the hand closest to the camera.I have really looked at the t shirt pic, and unless it is really stretched, that cannot be a sun or moon. It isn't even close to round. My first thought was Devil's Tower in Wyoming. Does anyone else see what I am seeing?
It does to me. Also, watch this video of a Falcon. Pause it on wing shots and study the wing tips. Then, watch and pause the button to get very good tail shots. I'm betting that this is a Falcon.

I think it's like being able to see figures in clouds. What would the point be in designing a bird with a hidden face? It's not a natural pose with the wings spread out. And the design behind it is the abdomen of the bird. Thanks, Tulessa. For what it's worth, here's a side-by-side of the t-shirt, and then that same photo with dotted lines attempting to show the outline. (I'm not very adept at dotted lines, I'm afraid.)
