Article from 2016, but just WOW!

This is what rape culture looks like – in the words of Donald Trump

"If we are to learn anything from Trump’s masterclass in rape culture it’s that none of us should keep quiet."

It has only gotten worse in the years since, IMO, and that has felt like one continuous punch to the gut. But I agree with the quote, none of us should keep quiet. I have to believe that sharing our stories, speaking aloud our "#metoo" moments and/or supporting those who bravely choose to share, has saved lives, prevented a multitude of sexual assaults, and given strength to victims to fight back. But damn if it isn't soul crushing to be reminded that this putz was elected by the citizens of our country. Hopefully, this is the beginning of his downfall.

So, the accuser/victim has the dress from the assault, from 1993, with DNA on it from the perpetrator, Donald Trump?

That is 30 years ago. She saved the dress, intact, not washed, with the DNA? That seems to be a problem, as there is no chain of custody, from the date of the alleged assault. Unless she reported the assault to LEO at the time, and the dress has been kept in evidence by LEO, since that date.
valid.... but why woud his DNA be on her clothing? ...surreptitiously collected off the McDonald's boxes outside Mar-a-Lago and sold on the dark web? has to be some story here IMO

IMO and experience, women suffer in silence more often than accusing, especially powerful men, following the assault. The humiliation, the pain, the shame and the utter feeling of powerlessness and fear and trauma, are strong deterrents for MANY women to speak up even for decades. It may well have been that Trump <modsnip> triggered something inside her to finally dare to confront this. She is also nearing the end of her life, as he is his, and she might have decided to resolve this lifelong overbearing issue before her death. Such are all reasons why allegations and confrontations get timed "strangely" in the eyes of the world but not the eyes of the victim.

MOO.
both of these people are larger than life IMO so I could believe both of them- that she thought it was funny until it was not and that he forgot about it 10 minutes later, IMO

My own opinion, is that if she was in a dressing room, at a department store, with Donald Trump, I guess I wonder why? Why did she do that? Not victim blaming, just inquiring about the entire scenario.

I don't understand what you mean about the DNA. His DNA was on her clothing because of his "contact" with her.

I imagine you wouldn't forget raping someone 10 min later.

Donald Trump raped me, writer E Jean Carroll testifies in New York court

Carroll told the jury the situation “turned absolutely dark”. [...] “My whole reason for being alive at that moment was to get out of the room,” she said.

But Carroll said she could not escape Trump’s grip. Speaking quietly and slowly, she said he raped her.

Carroll said she escaped after she was able to lift her knee and push him off. She fled the store. [...] “It left me unable to ever have a romantic life again,” she said.

Later, Carroll shed tears as she explained that she found it impossible to even smile at a man she was attracted to after the alleged rape, and that she had not had sex since.

[...]

Carroll also admitted there was a contradiction between her role as an advice columnist telling readers to seek therapy or go to the police, and her own failure to do either.

Carroll said she considers Trump “evil” and thought he was a “terrible” president, but denied bringing the lawsuit against him because of her political views.

“I’m not settling a political score. I’m settling a personal score,” she said.

Carroll said she had been subject to considerable abuse by Trump and his supporters for going public about the alleged attack, including the then president’s dismissal of her as a liar. Carroll said she had expected him to say they had a consensual encounter, not deny it altogether.

“It hit me and it laid me low because I lost my reputation. Nobody looked at me the same. It was gone. Even people who knew me looked at me with pity in their eyes, and the people who had no opinion now thought I was a liar and hated me,” she said. “The force of hatred coming at me was staggering.”

Carroll said she was also fired from her advice column at Elle magazine after 26 years.

Asked if she regretted accusing Trump given the consequences, Carroll’s voice broke.

“I regretted this about 100 times but, in the end, being able to get my day in court finally is everything,” she said, through tears.

The trial continues.

"Carroll also admitted there was a contradiction between her role as an advice columnist telling readers to seek therapy or go to the police, and her own failure to do either."

I wonder if her advice column changed in tone and content after this.... that would be an interesting project to analyze them, IMO. The advice columnist who cannot take her own advice; the shoe maker whose kids are barefoot. I can see why this could have been a a dealbraker in her life/career. IMO.

I was saying if you do not believe her because there was no chain of custody- what the OP brought up- how would there be DNA on the clothing ever?

OK, they're back. Before jury allowed in, Tacopina says he will ask about the "group of men she claims have mistreated her throughout her life."
Carroll's counsel: We'll take it question by question.
Jury entering!

Carroll's counsel: Do you remember the disk I showed you?
Carroll: Yes.
Counsel: We offer DX 112.
It's a video of Roger Ailes interviewing Donald Trump, as grand marshal of a military parade.
Counsel: Who is Roger Ailes?
Carroll: He started Fox News.

Counsel: Why do you think you were then unable to form a romantic relationship?
Carroll: In short, because I was raped by Donald Trump.
Counsel: Why did it have that effect?
Carroll: I flirted with him, and he raped me. So going forward, I didn't look at men

Carroll's counsel: I'm sorry to ask this, but have you had sex since?
Carroll: No. I have a public persona, then a private self that can't admit out loud [voice breaks] that there's been any suffering.
Counsel: May I approach?
Tissues.
Carroll: Thank you

Carroll: I project myself as invincible, I tell my correspondents, You can do it. The private E. Jean is not like that.
Counsel: Prior to the assault, had there been extended times you didn't date?
Carroll: No, I loved living in New York, going out...

Counsel: How old were you?
Carroll: 52.
Counsel: If there any other reason you haven't had sex since?
Carroll: No. 52 is a great age.
Counsel: Have you given interviews? Did you say there may have been another reason --
Tacopina: Specifics, please

Counsel: Do you recall saying that age may have played a role in you not finding a romantic connection?
Carroll: May I see it?
Counsel: Let me ask you a different way. Do you recall saying age may have played a factor?
Carroll: Yes.

Counsel: Did you use dating apps?
Carroll: I mostly viewed then as competition, since I owned two dating apps. But I tried, too, I admit.
Counsel: Did you find anyone?
Carroll: No. My friends at Esquire set me up with the perfect man. But I made it not work

Carroll: I have lost out on one of the glorious experiences of any human being - being in love with another human being, cuddling and eating popcorn, cooking dinner, walking the dog. I feel I should be able to overcome it

Counsel: With your 2d husband John Johson, was their violence?
Carroll: Yes. He strangled me three times. But it was not sexual. I never called the police. I never sued.

Counsel: How do you get along with him now?
Carroll: We get along. We continued to have sex after our divorce.
Counsel: Anyone after that?
Carroll: William Goldman, it was lovely.
Counsel: Ever sexual abuse by a camp counselor?
Carroll: Yes. I was 12.

Carroll: The waterfront director, Cam, he would take me to the dining room. He would rub my leg in front of 100 campers. I was ashamed.
Counsel: Why did you feel ashamed?
Tacopina: Objection!
Judge Kaplan: Overruled.
Carroll: It was public

Counsel: Are there specific things that trigger these feelings?
Carroll: I haven't figured it out. I had to pull over to the side of the road one night after seeing my colleagues from the 1990s. I don't like to talk about it.

Counsel: How did Donald Trump's presidential aspiration effect your triggers?
Carroll: He was everywhere. I had to get strong. They became less.
Counsel: Have you seen a therapist since this case began?
Carroll: Yes. Doctor Leslie Lebowitz.

Counsel: What did you think when Donald Trump ran for president?
Carroll: I thought it was terrible. I think he is evil.
Counsel: Why?
Carroll: He raped me.
Counsel: What about his politics?
Carroll: I don't even know what they are.

Counsel: Why didn't you speak up when he ran?
Carroll: My mother was dying in Indiana. And I notice that as more women came out and accused him, his polling numbers went up.
Counsel: Are you involved in politics?
Carroll: I am a registered Democrat.

Counsel: Have you ever donated to a candidate?
Carroll: $1000 to President Obama.
Counsel: Who have you voted for?
Carroll: Obama. Clinton. Biden.
Counsel: What is your view of Donald Trump?
Carroll: He's vile.

Counsel: Let me show you PX 120. What is it?
Carroll: The most hideous men in NYC walking tour. In 2019.
[Tacopina says something]
Judge Kaplan: Were you addressing me?
Tacopina: We're trying to resolve something without getting Your Honor involved.

[Photo without text is now put up]
Tacopina: No objection, your Honor
Counsel: What was that tour?
Carroll: They do Most Famous Gangsters walking tour, so I thought, Why not hideous men? In six blocks of 5th Avenue, we visited where well known men mistreated women

Counsel: Was this man part of your tour?
Carroll: No, he was in front of Trump Tower charging $5 a photo. I gave him $5. He's working hard.
Counsel: How many tours did you do?
Carroll: Six.
Counsel: How much money did you make?
Carroll (laughs) I didn't charge.

Counsel: Are you suing to settle a political score?
Carroll: A personal score. He called me a liar.
Judge Kaplan: Let's take a break here. 15 minutes.
[Inner City Press heading out to other cases (in Chastain NFT, charts of income. Mag court?) Thread resumes 3:18

We're back.
Before jury comes back in Judge Kaplan rules: Litigation funding, it is not coming in. Let me say, it went to 1 or 2 answers in the depositions. I conclude there is nothing in there as to credibility. If there were, it would be prejudicial. It's closed

Carroll's lawyer: At 1:58 pm Trump Jr. tweeted that a billionaire is funding this lawsuit. In light of Mr. Trump's son's tweet, after the Truth Social, we are wondering about what remedy. It's high appropriate, I mean, inappropriate.
Judge: Mr. Tacopina -

Judge Kaplan: Remedies may go beyond those of this court. I suggest you speak to your client.
Tacopina: As to Eric Trump, I will address with any court. The tweet was before your ruling of a few minutes ago. Reid Hoffman... Eric Trump didn't do anything wrong.

Judge Kaplan: There are relevant US statutes here.... Bring the jury in.
Jury entering!
Counsel: What did you say to Lisa Birnbach when Trump won?
Carroll: I said, Can you believe it? She said-
Counsel: Did you know what she was thinking?
Carroll: I thought I did

Carroll: People said, I should write a book. I'd thought many times of writing a book about what woman think about men. The Harvey Weinstein story broke. It was 2017.
Counsel: How do you feel about men?
Carroll: I like 'em.

Carroll: I decided to include Donald Trump in my book.
Counsel: Were you paid an advance for your book?
Carroll: Yes. $70,000.
Counsel: Any money since then?
Carroll: No.
Counsel: How did you market it?
Carroll: Donald Trump was mentioned...

Carroll: New York Magazine ran an excerpt. It hit the Internet 3 days before the hard copy magazine. June 21, 2019.
Counsel: Why not publish it in Elle?
Carroll: They would not have published it. They would not publish their advice columnist admitting a mistake

Counsel: Were you paid by New York Magazine?
Carroll: No, they paid St. Martins, like $7500.
Counsel: Did you send it to Lisa Birnbach and Carol Martin?
Carroll: Yes, as an email attachment. Neither had a problem with it. They are both writers.

Counsel: Were you three interviewed that June?
Carroll: Yes.
Counsel: Did it change your recollection of the events?
Carroll: No, but I hadn't known Lisa was feeding her children when she got my call.

Counsel: After it was published, what was the response?
Carroll: I thought Donald Trump would denied, because he denies everything.
Tacopina: Objection.
Judge: Sustained.
Counsel: Let me show you his tweet, I never met her. You see it?
Carroll: Yes

Counsel: How about this interview in The Hill, June 24, 2019, where he says "She's not my type." What do you understand that to mean?
Carroll: That I'm too ugly to attack, to rape. I thought he was going to say it was consensual. Then I started getting threats

Carroll: The letters I got as E. Jean, they turned negative. And the threats?
Counsel: What was your reaction?
Carroll: I deleted them.
Counsel: Did you also get support?
Carroll: Yes. From all over. But the vileness about my ugliness, it swamped it out.

Carroll (voice breaking) Getting my day in court, it is everything to me. So I am happy (sobs).
Counsel: Shall we take a moment?
Carroll: I'll get myself together. This is my day in court. I'm not going to cry and waste everyone's time... I lost 8 million readers.

Carroll: I've still got 19,000 readers on Substack. But Elle Magazine fired me since I accused Donald Trump.
Counsel: Were you able to obtain a new job?
Carroll: No. I have a Substack. For Elle once a month I got $5000. Now I churn out 3 a week for the same income

Counsel: Have you heard of Jessica Leeds?
Carroll: Yes. I interviewed her about Donald Trump assaulting her on a place. The press tends to use words like grope. I --
Tacopina: Objection.
Judge Kaplan: To what? We'll break here, the jurors can go home. But first...

Judge Kaplan: Very important you don't read anything about this case or go online.
[Jury leaves]
Tacopina: She said, Other women had come forward --
Carroll's lawyer: She's covered a lot today. We aren't trying to import other allegations.
Judge Kaplan: Remind me

Judge Kaplan: OK, see you tomorrow.
[Judge leaves]

*Trial continues (Day 3) (@ 9am ET) - New YorkE. Jean Carrol’s battery, emotional distress, rape & a 2nd act of defamation (for Trump's comments on Truth Social in October) lawsuit against Donald John Trump.
The lawsuit for defamation & under a New York law which allows alleged victims of sexual assault to sue over alleged crimes outside the usual statute of limitations.
Trump lawyers: Joseph Tacopina, Alina Habba & W. Perry Brandt. U.S. District of Manhattan / U.S. District Judge Lewis A. Kaplan
Carroll has sued Trump for defamation & for rape, saying Trump turned a friendly encounter at a luxury Manhattan department store in late 1995 or early 1996 into a violent rape.

Defamation charges postponed by Judge Lewis Kaplan on 3/30/23. Carroll's first defamation lawsuit against Trump was filed in November 2019. But that case has been put on hold while Trump argues that a federal law protects him from being sued for defamation for comments he made while president.

'After Carroll went public, Trump said he “never met this person.”'

View attachment 417076
From the U.S. District Court in Manhattan
Donald Trump, E. Jean Carroll, John Johnson and Ivana Trump at an NBC party, late 1980s.

As both were major New York City figures throughout the 1980s, it comes as no surprise that E Jean Carroll, John Johnson, and Donald Trump crossed paths.

One image of former TV anchor Johnson and Trump, alongside their previous wives E Jean Carroll and the late Ivana Trump, has played a central part in the lawsuit. The two couples had been photographed interacting at an NBC event around 1987. Trump, when presented with this image, confused Carroll with his former wife Marla Maples. This refutes Trump’s claims which seek to discredit Carroll’s allegations that “she’s not my type,” as Trump toldThe Hill in 2019.
