My apologies to anyone who identifies as a Witch here, that phrase “Witch Hunt” is getting soooo old! He really needs a new line. Apparently this hunt is much more legit than the last one.
IMO

You ever see the movie Hocus Pocus? Pretty much a DT biopic.

A trial with a jury decision can't be a witch hunt anyway or else everything is.

There have been some great posts here and I am really relieved to know I am not alone - I admit, sometimes over my many years here in the threads, I felt like an island, socio-politically.

You’re not alone. I’ve been here off and on for a long time too and I know what you mean. I came back recently for the Gannon Stauch trial, and even though I like to scroll through all new posts, I studiously avoided every single Trump criminal/legal thread, because of what I assumed I would see. This thread was the first (I think only) one I dipped my toe into, and I realized I wasn’t quite so alone anymore. (Incidentally, one of the first posts I saw was an early announcement of the Fox News ban on the forums.)

Anyway, thanks to the people who are bearing witness to these proceedings, while others like me drown their sorrows in Downton Abbey and pie. And thanks for providing some glimmers of hope.

Pence still covering for the guy who didn't care if he was executed by the mob he unleashed on him.

Pence said he “never heard or witnessed behavior” like what Trump was found liable for during his time serving as Trump’s running mate and vice president.

He also avoided saying whether he believes the jury’s finding affects whether Trump, who is widely seen as the frontrunner for the GOP nomination for president in 2024, is fit to serve in the White House again.

“I think that’s a question for the American people,” Pence said. “I’m sure the president will defend himself in that matter.”

Why is he so enamored of #45? What does #45 have on him?

This was not a criminal trial with a finding of guilty or not guilty. It was a civil trial with a much lower level of evidence required. It was a he said she said and only the jury heard the evidence from both sides.

Jury believed a 79 year old, not at all famous woman over an ex president of the usa. So little does his word or "integrity" mean. To the tune of $5M.

A disgrace to the country, that he was ever allowed into our White House.

I think Pence is just a "yes man" who doesn't want to jeopardize any chances he may have going forward to be involved in future political campaigns within his political party if he were to do anything but play dumb about DT and his "recent legal troubles".

Especially regarding DT's poor treatment and abuse of women, like E Jean Carroll in this case. Pence may be compartmentalizing his political behavior away from personal behavior.

I've seen it before, the closing of ranks, when someone is caught out and called on their bad behavior, the pat response from colleagues is "I don't know anything about that, I'm sure he is innocent and truth will prevail (he will handle it)."

But, still, you could have a point, maybe Pence had to promise to always back DT's play for some other reason. JMO ;)

So are you minimizing it?

I had to quote this again. This is what I, too, have felt and screamed from rooftops since those access hollywood tapes came out and he clinched the nomination.

There have been some great posts here and I am really relieved to know I am not alone - I admit, sometimes over my many years here in the threads, I felt like an island, socio-politically. It is a relief to know so many good people do recognize this con job. I don't give the guy much thought and no power to upset me generally, but this trial was just so, so, so far beyond the pale... thanks for the updates and sentiments shared here. Many of us have been in situations assaults so similar to what EJC was in with him that day so long ago. We know it but may never admit it.

You are definitely not alone. This thread has been pretty chill honestly. There was one guy in the NY financial crimes thread being a maniac like the first day or two but it took him about 5 posts at the most before he got his account deleted.

Whether he did it or not; how can they convict him on her word alone? Where’s the actual evidence (I have no read all the evidence so forgive me but I’ve read some things)? And I’m not just asking for this particular case but I’m asking for other cases as well. I truly don’t understand it. I mean, anyone can accuse a guy of SA for any reason without any proof? I’m a SA/molestation survivor myself so I understand the emotional trauma that it causes (and still causes me) but I just don’t understand how we can just go on her word alone. Araiza, who played for the Buffalo Bills, lost his career over accusations that he participated in a gang rape at a party when he was 17. Bills fired him and his career was over. NOW the DA is coming out and saying the charges were dropped because they have proof the kid wasn’t even there at the time when the rape supposedly occurred. Meanwhile, his life is ruined for no reason. I’m genuinely trying to understand. I have 2 boys and we talk all of the time about these cases and it really does terrify me. I’m also not discounting some of these stories but I’m truly just trying to understand.

This was not a criminal trial with a finding of guilty or not guilty. It was a civil trial with a much lower level of evidence required. It was a he said she said and only the jury heard the evidence from both sides.

It wasn't only he said/she said, but even if it was, it would still be up to the jury to determine credibility of the witnesses, as in all trials, and in this case it was an easy to judge between the two. By all reports, Carroll came off credibly in her 3 days of testimony, while Trump, who declined to testify in court, did testify in a deposition shown in court, and where he said he believes stars like him can sexually assault women with impunity. He also tried to deny this assault by claiming she was not his type (admitting he would rape women of his type), and then confusing a picture of Carroll as being that of his ex-wife Marla Maples.

But that wasn't all the testimony. Two friends of Carroll testified she told them about it at the time it happened, which is very compelling confirmation. And two other women testified about Trump doing to them basically what he did to Carroll, and which is exactly what he bragged about in the Access Hollywood recording as something he does like to do and get away with, and which he later confirmed in his deposition. He admitted to being a sexual abuser, and 3 women in court said that's what he did to them. It's just a fact at this point that he is one (which is also corroborated by the 20-some other women who have reported him as one.)

There was nothing unfair about the trial. Trump had very good attorneys and who got to screen the jury in voir dire and accepted them

The verdict was ultimately an easy decision, as shown by the short 2.5 hour deliberation, and the $5 million award.
