Sweetmop,

I'm in Western N.C., too. About an hour west of Asheville. Very close to Western Carolina University.

Howdy neighbor!

:) Hi Neighbor! I'm in Hendersonville. It's beautiful country over there in your area, SewingDeb.
You're not far from me. Wow, it really is a small world, isn't it?

I think that this is one of the more disturbing threads I've ever read here.

Part of me wants to find out that the dog really did do this out of the clear blue, because I really don't want to think the parents have some freaky dog sex thing going on in their home.

But, I really DON'T want that to be the case, because then I'd have to think about the idea that dogs could just do that to kids with no "training" or provocation.

I seriously can't think of a conclusion to this case that would put my mind at ease.

Poor baby.

I just wanted to add something about the child being naked from my own personal experience. I have 4 boys 8, 3, 23 months and 5 months. My children love to be naked. The oldest will walk around in his underwear all day unless I tell him to go get dressed. The 3 year old is potty training and never wants to put his underwear back on so he is always naked when we are at home. As soon as we enter the front he is taking off his shirt and shoes and the pants follow after he uses the bathroom. My 1 year old will take his pants and diaper off also so it's a struggle to keep anyone dressed. I am constantly covering someones butt.

My problem with this story isn't that the kid was naked. It was that there had to be a warning sign here about the dogs personality. There is also the fact they were left alone together long enough for the dog to rape the poor baby.

I'm curious what the final report will say.

Not far at all! This is a beautiful area. I moved here from Burlington and I don't miss the heat and humidity (though we do get a few days like that here and there).

Back on topic....I'm with you. This case is very unsettling and I hope no adults were involved in this but a dog just doing this out of the blue is a very disturbing thought as well.

This is a horrific story. It absolutely makes me ill to think about it.

At the same time, a little part of me still wonders about it because they are investigating and doing tests on DNA. If they are doing this, then there has to be some questions about the story. Either way, the little boy was really injured and it is tragic.

ATTACK: Family dog reportedly assaulted 2-year-old

BY APRIL AMADON/[email protected]

Lockport police are investigating an apparent attack by a pit bull on a small boy.

The 2-year-old is recovering at Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo after police say he was attacked and sexually assaulted by his family’s pit bull.

Police said the toddler was in his home on Washburn Street about 2 p.m. Sunday when the pill bull attacked. According to police, the dog sodomized the boy.

“The dog sexually attacked the kid and caused some pretty significant injuries,” said Lockport Police Detective Capt. Larry Eggert.

Eggert said the boy’s family members, who were reportedly home at the time, and neighbors had to beat the dog to get him off the boy.

The dog has been impounded at the Niagara County SPCA in Wheatfield as the investigation continues. Eggert said a veterinarian will be brought in to take DNA samples from the dog.

“(The vet will) compare DNA taken from the boy to kind of verify it happened,” Eggert said.

Eggert said everyone involved in the case was shocked by the bizarre happenings.

“I have never, ever heard of an assault quite like that,” Eggert said.

Niagara County SPCA Executive Director Al Chille said this case is an unusual one.

“I have had reports of adults having (sexual) relationships with animals, but not anything like that,” he said. “The majority of the calls we receive with regards to pit bulls are bite calls, not calls of this nature. We get a considerably large number of those (bite calls) from all over the county.”

I have been very, very skeptical about this. I hope they are really, really certain that the dog did it. I remember the woman not too long ago that blamed her toddler's mutilation on her dachsund and it was proven later that the cuts were not consitant with bite marks.

Poor little boy. I hope they find out what happened real soon.

From another article...http://www.wben.com/news/fullstory.php?newsid=07892

Snip:

" I've been a police man for 27 years and I've never heard of it. We had to go outside the area to find some canine experts who had heard of this before. No one locally had ever heard of this," Eggert said

"We found one expert who has investigated five like this in his career," Eggert said.

Hey, Yall!! I'm from NC, too! I'm on the coast near New Bern.

And, to talk about this topic....I have a 6 year old and a 4 year old. My mom and dad have 2 American bulldogs (much the same as Pitts). There is no way that either of those two dogs would do something like that to my children. As a matter of fact, if you even yell at my children around them, they will get between you and the kids and let you know that that is unacceptable! So, my point....I think there is a lot more to this story than the mom and household members are telling!!
