GUILTY NY - 30 injured in Manhattan bombing, 17 Sept 2016 *Ahmad Khan Rahimi arrested*

I think it has to do with the family dynamics. Seems like child abuse is a commn theme for Boston, Florida and now here.

It is interesting to me that people have breakdowns over this but shootings of elementary school children, shootings at Malls, etc are not met with billions of dollars of intervention. Curious

I'm starting to look at it in a different way (thanks to CARIIS!) and the in many ways the differences between people like Mateen and Lanza, for example, are more about the methods than their ideology, personalities, whatever.

One uses a gun, one uses a knife, one uses a pipe bomb depending on culture, exposure, what's available.

Not saying there aren't terrorists who are just that, or violent people who want to kill others for their own reasons, but there are similarities I think need to be explored.

Hm. Parental violence is never a plus in a child's life

I know, and I bet we can all agree on that.

But conversation about the mom on this particular point is going nowhere, imo.

But....carry on. I'll wait.

In this case, it is the mother that we know of that may have issues. The other ones were raised in abusive homes. The Boston, the Orlando. I think being raised in the abusive homes is the foundation for the radicalization . So many killers, unless they are mentally ill, come from abusive homes. I think that is the key. Obviously not that many abused children become killers, but it is a common factor of those that do. What makes some go over the edge and strike out? That is where we should be putting research money.

No disrespect intended to anyone. I read all posts. Having said that given the wide variety of "folks" I provide therapy too. If anyone can figure it out you will win the Nobel Peace Prize. Do we keep searching for red flags, answers, of course. Am I open to it. Absolutely. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Sadly. IMO.

There are plenty of indicators. There are many complications of abuse for an individual such as health impacts. Profilers in Quantico aggregrate data and come up with profiles. This would be a good thing to profile.

The injustice collectors are interesting. That is a good indicator

Right. But if she abused her youngest children, there is a good possibility she was abusive towards the older ones too. Just wondering...

Given what we know about him reacting violently to his family members himself, and knowing that his mom was charged with abusing his younger sibling, it makes me think she was abusive towards him as well

I bet the whole family is abusive, he himself stabbing his brother and sister.

CBSNews Jeff Pegues more details sourced to LE about 'the heated family dispute' and more, latest on Federal Charges, and the investigation trying to 'fill in some of the blanks'

Pat Milton, Senior Producer, with an earlier report with "excellent reporting" of what happened CBSNews

summary paraphrase from video

I bet the whole family is abusive, he himself stabbing his brother and sister.

Yes, layers of inherit coercion, in some cases, like in this family, seems probable if not a given, with tough consequences to control, as may be the case in Orlando too. What does it take to know who will act on whatever they feel through all those layers?

Or maybe he's just full of hatred. For America. For homosexuals. For whatever!

Those are all given prominent points for setting themselves apart, for the cookie cutter flag waving jihadis. Like any cause riding on religion or moral issues, impacting on personal liberties are at the core of being able to imbue a common mindset, seems to me, but most of them don't espouse 'killing the infidel' because they are irredeemable.

here is his video

His phrasing drove me nuts -- he is an attorney , I thought oh god if I was a juror -- but he was better on the interview !!

I was there years ago loved it, what I found most interesting about him (interview) is this is not the main hub of Chlesea, obviously I hung out on the main strip and remember liking it a lot .. Which adds to his placement confusing! This road is actually off the main strip ??

Taliban denied any link to Rahami

What do you guys make of his note described :

"a hodge podge, a rambling, disconnected, choppy series of references to past events,"

linked earlier!

Mom!

I finallly saw the video with him pulling his bag - your description was spot on -- looked the furthest thing from a bomber!! Oye!

Media media

re CBSNews Jeff Pegues more details sourced to LE about 'the heated family dispute' and more, latest on Federal Charges, and the investigation trying to 'fill in some of the blanks'

MEdia interviewed Omar wife who clearly stated that he suffered with bipolar, and was serverly mentally disturbed - which the media totally ignored!!

Did not fit the agenda!

http://www.lfpress.com/2016/06/13/orlando-shooter-was-bipolar-mentally-unstable-says-ex-wife

So who knows!

On this guy it struck me as odd when the FBI checking him out they could not talk to him cause he was in jail I thought how hard could it be to "find" him!!! We know where he was !!

Also CBS it was not a note on the bomb- it was a notebook on his person@!!!!

The Rahimi father gave the impression he alerted the FBI AP raw, but it was a neighbor who called LE, according to this afternoon's reports on CBSNews. posted upthread.

Friend is at the San Gennaro Feast which is nearby. Says very heavy police presence right now.

#MANHATTAN #NY #SUSPICIOUSDEVICE 76 CROSBY ST| U/D: LOCATION, LAFAYETTE & SPRING MOBILIZATION POINT. SUSPICIOUS PACKAGE.| 20:37

Due to NYPD activity at Spring St, [6] trains are bypassing Spring St in both directions.

Snip

The handwritten document closes, "Inshallah [God willing] the sounds of the bombs will be heard in the streets. Gun shots to your police. Death To Your OPPRESSION."

The filing describes an FBI agent watching a video shot by a family member on a cell phone that shows Rahami igniting incendiary material in a cylindrical container.

It also reveals the following details:

The video was shot two days before the attacks in New York and New Jersey.
The court document is also filled with more facts about the day of the bombing including:
The dumpster on 23rd street weighed 100 pounds and flew more than 120 feet through the air;
12 fingerprints were recovered from the device on 23rd Street - all 12 matched Rahami;
A car traced to Rahami was tracked going through the Lincoln Tunnel on the day of the attacks;
Two of the cell phones had been purchased last year - one in February and one in May;
The SUV that was stopped on Sunday night by the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge contained five people including members of Rahami's family;
Rahami purchased several of the bomb components on EBay using the name "Ahmad Rahimi;"
Only one of the three devices in Seaside actually detonated; and
Rahami was also caught on video at both locations in Manhattan.
