They should release the photo.

Why release the photo?
Could hinder investigation
What if the "suspect" is the wrong person??????

Too many reasons TO release yet!

someone posting Twitter updates: https://twitter.com/rdaley09

#brooklyn patrol car is the only car moving on Bedford

#brooklyn groups of 4 and 5 police officers now shining flashlights in cars on the block, noting tags

#brooklyn traffic stopped at Dekalb but most police activity closer to Willoughby

#brooklyn an officer told us they have called the bomb squad

I live off Bedford Ave. between Dekalb and Willoughby, police have cleared the street and stopped traffic #brooklyn
I am 2 miles from there. I just got home and traffic is a bit crazy here and unusual for a Sunday night. Lots of cops out.

This NY1 reporter is saying there was NO note with the 27th Street pressure cooker:

Law enforcement sources: there's video from 27th St. of person of interest they want to speak to. Pressure cooker didn't have note. #chelsea

Surveillance video has shown suspect clearly at both places
23th Street still closed

FBI will be able to determine evidence from pressure cooker
Will work with phone companies
Will look at Social Media
Also will find out where most were manufactured

Surveillance video from Saturday shows a man dragging what appears to be a duffel bag with wheels near the site of the explosion on West 23rd street about 40 minutes before the blast. Video shows the same man with what appears to be the same duffel bag on West 27th street about 10 minutes later.

In the video, the man leaves the duffel bag where police later found an unexploded pressure cooker. After he leaves, the video shows two men removing a white garbage bag believed to contain the pressure cooker from the duffel bag and leave it on the sidewalk.

Investigators have not determined the relationship between the two men and the man dragging the duffel bag.

I also have trouble thinking someone from the LGBTQ (or any ally in the straight community) would do this. It just is not ringing true to me at this point (though we don't know much yet).

At this point, I'm not getting any particular vibe from the case except my first thoughts were of the Boston bombers.

I will be following this case closely.

MSnbc reporting if posted sorry, that the same man was at both scenes. But IMO this makes it more dangeroues , he is not good thankfully, but determined and apparently has made several.

I did not get that either. And when I learned about the manifesto, man it is a really patheletic day when people want to take "credit" for something like this. I dont know the old days, someone might buy a box of girl scout cookies to boast but this --pretty sick stuff

Very strange, just started getting caught up, and the pressure cooker was real, and it was almost like I wonder if last night you kept thinking it was fake to make you feel better (me). I am not a denial doer - but learning that it was real was strange

Very juvinile but on occassion today thought na na na an you did not kill anyone and half of your bombs were duds nananananan

Who would attach a "note" to a bomb , unless you did not plan for it to go off. There is some congruency with this- it was left out practically in the open.

I dont attach notes to things that I hope blow up - makes the "note" difficult to read!!

Hummmm

I wonder if the second device was not meant to go off because if it had, wouldn't the letter have been destroyed?

I just thought that too -- makes it creepier in a way

Yes, prepaid phones are untraceable because there's no service contract*. And much cheaper than smart phones in any context - thus older (flip) models are used. The Boston bombers did a few test runs in an abandoned lot, and I'm sure others attempt this type of detonation and thus need cheap throwaway materials. If all that's required is a phone call (ie activating the phone that's left and connected) it doesn't matter what kind of phones are used in terms of smart vs. flip.

Smart phones probably have too much hidden location tracking etc that would make people nervous.

ETA: *untraceable until security footage from the store is reviewed. But so many drug dealers etc buy burner phones from little corner stores who are always SO surprised that their surveillance wasn't working..

So actually, what is it. YOu dial the number and it is supposed to go off right then??

The Chelsea bomb’s location suggests that whoever planted it either couldn’t find anywhere else to put it without drawing notice, wanted to cause as little carnage as possible, or didn’t understand the power of the device and thought it would turn the dumpster's steel into shrapnel. Steel dumpsters, based on their design and strength, tend to deflect blasts into the sky and away from people.

The bomber seems to have built the devices first, then set off to figure out where to put them. “Driving around with a bomb is probably pretty nerve racking. It points to someone who is inexperienced and didn’t build a bomb for a specific target.”

Manhattan Bombs Built for Carnage Provide a Trove of Clues

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/19/nyregion/new-york-explosion-chelsea.html?_r=0

A bomb that injured 29 people on Saturday in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, and another that failed to detonate, were filled with shrapnel and made with pressure cookers, flip phones and Christmas lights that set off a powerful explosive compound, law enforcement officials said on Sunday.

Both bombs appeared designed to create maximum chaos and fatalities. They also provided a trove of clues even as any suspects remained unnervingly at large.

A top law enforcement official said that pressure cookers were filled with “fragmentation materials.” The bomb that exploded, at 23rd Street, was filled with small bearings or metal BBs. A second device on 27th Street that did not explode appeared to be filled with the same material, the official said.

Late on Sunday, two senior law enforcement officials said there was a “person of interest” in the bombing, but it was unclear if that person had been identified.

(OT anyone else having a problem with WS theblast hour or so?)

You have to admit... the NYPD rock!
