Ahmad Khan Rahami’s Father Told Police in 2014 His Son Was a Terrorist, Officials Say

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/21/nyregion/ahmad-khan-rahami-suspect.html?_r=0

On Tuesday morning, outside the family’s restaurant in Elizabeth, the father, Mohammad Rahami, told reporters, “I called the F.B.I. two years ago,” he said, shaking his fingers in the air.

The article goes on to say that when the FBI investigated this claim, the father recanted.

I'm going to have a hard time believing anything from the family at this point, I admit. I need some time for all the info to be put on the table and then to sort it out.

Also the article says the suspect was accused of stabbing his brother (previously was reported he attempted to stab his sister?).

Yes he did, but he said this as well.

Ahmad Khan Rahami's father, Mohammad, spoke to reporters outside his home in Elizabeth, N.J. "Two years I called the FBI, my son, he's doing very bad, OK? But they check it almost two months... They say he's not a terrorist. I said, 'OK.' Now they say he is a terrorist. I say, 'OK.'"

Manhattan - Avenue A and East 13th Street - Authorities are on the scene for a suspicious package. Governor Cuomo stated the suspect, Ahman Khan Rahami has accomplices and the investigation is ongoing.

I think the point was that's his version of the story. Police agree he did claim his son was a terrorist but then the article says that when interviewed, he recanted.

One expert MSNBC said he thinks he tried to use the cell phones alarm feature to ignite?

But now with the recent revelation that there WAs a note, I think we might have to conclude that the second was not rigged to go off or was rigged to do so in like 4 hours so his note could be found.

Althoug inept, I cant imagine someone thinking a note could be read after being on top of a bomb!

I think Boston, Paris and now this series of attacks have permuted plans that ultimately want to draw out and expand the climate of fear. If the bomb doesn't go off, then the note is intended to do something too, but the intent may be to get on the run, accrue maximum damage... if that makes any sense.

The woman left the U.S. for Pakistan in recent days and was intercepted by officials Monday in the United Arab Emirates, where investigators were attempting to determine whether she had been aware of her husband’s plans.

His wife, whose name has not been revealed, was able to enter the country but left the US just days before the terrorist attacks her husband is suspected of carrying out.

Rahami note found with unexploded device in Manhattan mentioned Fort Hood shootings, Boston Marathon bombings - NBC

A note found on the pressure cooker bomb left on 27th Street in Manhattan Saturday referenced Anwar al-Awlaki, the American-born al-Qaida-linked cleric killed in a U.S. drone strike in 2011, and the Boston Marathon bombings, a law enforcement official familiar with the investigation tells NBC News.

as "a hodge podge, a rambling, disconnected, choppy series of references to past events," ( with this description I get a picture of super drunk- maybe laying down where he did was more of a passout!) also mentioned the 2009 mass shooting at Fort Hood, where a U.S. Army major and psychiatrist killed 13 people and injured 30 others.

... but law enforcement officials wondered about the purpose of leaving a note with a bomb. If the bomb went off, the note would have been destroyed. Authorities are considering whether the intent may not have been for the pressure cooker device to explode, but for it to draw attention to the note.

sorry folks, it's just too cookie cutter obvious.
give me a break

leaves a note referring to activities he's allegedly ranting about?
then he lies down in a doorway to a bar in the open outside?

seriously?

Bomb Suspect Ahmad Rahami's Ex Files for Custody of Their Child

by Tracy Connor

Bomb suspect Ahmad Rahami's ex-girlfriend has asked a court to give her full custody of their child and issue a restraining order against him.
In a filing Tuesday, Maria Mena cited Rahami's arrest as the basis for her petition.

"Defendant has been charged with police attempted murder and is currently under protective services after possible terrorist related activities in NYC," Mena wrote in the petition filed in New Jersey Superior Court...

Did he stab a second family member?!?!

Ahmad Rahami does not have a criminal record, but he has been arrested at least twice, most recently in August 2014, when he was charged with aggravated assault for allegedly stabbing a relative, Nasim Rahami, in the left leg, according to a complaint filed in Superior Court in Elizabeth.

In that same incident, Ahmad Rahami was charged with possession of firearm he intended to use against the relative, the complaint states.

Prosecutors dismissed the charges after a grand jury declined to indict Rahami. The circumstances of the grand jury's decision could not immediately be determined.

Family members:

Mohammad Khan Rahami, who said online that he lived above the chicken restaurant run by the suspect’s family, shared an image around three years ago that appears to support jihad. The picture shows foreign fighters training in Syria, with a quote by Khalid Bin Walid, a military commander and companion of the Prophet Muhammad. “I bring the men who desire death as ardently as you desire life,” reads the quote, which is often shared on social media by jihadists. A reverse image search leads to a forum affiliated with Islamist and jihadist sympathizers.

That user, Mohammad Khan Rahami, checked in on Facebook more than two years ago at First American Fried Chicken, which is run by the bombing suspect’s family, telling a friend that he’d lived there.

Mohammad Khan Rahami’s Facebook profile shows connections with other possible members of the Rahami family. A second possible relative, known as Nasim Rahami, tagged in a family picture shared on Mohammad Rahami’s profile, as well as to other members of his family. Nasim shared an image in 2012 displaying the word ‘Jihad,’ a masked figure, and Arabic script often displayed on the Black Standard commonly employed by jihadist groups.

The text on the black image is the Shahada or Muslim declaration of faith, a phrase that while not necessarily radical itself also appears on the ISIS flag.

more on Maria Mena:

In August 2008, Superior Court in Middlesex County ordered Rahami to undergo genetic testing to determine paternity in a family court matter where he had been named defendant. Court documents identify the woman who brought the complaint as Maria J. Mena. Mena was later granted "residential custody" of a child who was not named. Rahami was also ordered to pay child care and the costs of the genetic testing, in addition to having part of his wages subject to garnishment, court papers say.

In other documents, Mena in 2011 asked the courts to prevent the minor child from spending overnights at the home of Rahami's parents on Elmora Avenue in Elizabeth. A judge denied the request, however, saying she had not shown evidence that Rahami was planning to take the child out of the country.

Earlier, in 2009, the court had permitted Mena to take the child out of the country herself for a weeklong trip in November and December 2009.

looks like yes:

Mohammad Rahami also responded to reports that Rahami had stabbed his brother, Nasim, in the leg during an altercation in 2014, when the family lived in Perth Amboy. A grand jury declined to indict him, despite a warning from the arresting officer that Rahami was likely “a danger to himself or others.”

On Tuesday the father acknowledged the incident had occurred, adding “there was no reason.”
