In the course of the arrest, a handwritten journal was recovered , written in the journal, among other things, was the following:
"You (USA Government) continue your [unintelligible] slaught[er] against the mujahidean be it Afghanistan, Iraq, Sham [Syria], Palestine . " (4)
An expression of concern at the prospect of being caught before being able to carry out a suicide attack: "the F.B.I. & homeland security [unintelligible] looking for me [unintelligible] my heart I pray to the beautiful wise ALLAH. To not take JIHAD away from. I beg [unintelligible] for shahadat [martyrdom] & Inshallah [God willing] this call will be A[n]swered.
So was this written after he had started bombing, indicating he had planed to do a final one suicide , struggles with the idea, realized he could not do it to himself (or afraid with the track record that they might not go) , off, dumped the remaining stuff in dumpster and lcoated a place where he could be shot by cops?
A reference, on a page that is largely unintelligible, to "pipe bombs" and a "pressure cooker bomb," and the partial sentence: "in the streets they plan to run a mile."

Laudatory references to: Anwar al-Awlaki; Nidal Hasan, who shot and killed 13 people at Fort Hood, Texas; and "Brother Osama Bin Laden."
The handwritten document closes as follows: "Inshallah [God willing] the sounds of the bombs will be heard in the streets. Gun shots to your police. Death To Your OPPRESSION.

(4) The journal appears to have been damaged during the arrest of, and exchange of gunfire with the defendant. Consequently, some of the handwriting in the journal is illegible.
(5) "Sheikh Anwar" is a reference to Anwar al-Awlaki, formerly a senior leader of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, a Yemen-based designated foreign terrorist organization.
