  • #1,181

After being grilled by investigators for two days, Ahmad Khan Rahami wants to see a lawyer and a judge ASAP

I actually laughed!! How American of him.
I guess I don't see the humor. He IS an American citizen.

It is very concerning to me when even CNN (all Trump all the time) is questioning if he should have any rights:

CNN Asks Whether Terror Suspect, A U.S. Citizen, ‘Deserves’ Due Process
It is not a valid question just because Donald Trump thinks it is.

“CNN openly mused on Tuesday about whether the U.S. citizen apprehended for his alleged role in a terror plot was entitled to due process under the law.

A Twitter user spotted a chyron on the cable network with the question: “Does bombing suspect deserve due process?”

“Contrary to CNN’s suggestion, no one “deserves” or does not deserve due process. U.S. citizens on American soil are guaranteed due process rights by the Constitution. Those rights include being informed of one’s charges, the right to counsel and a fair trial.”

Yes, he is a citizen. But he disagrees with all our values yet wants the same rights. That is the funny part.

What!?!?!

We have due process in the country for all....not for some, but all. I can't even believe I read the question, "Does bombing suspect deserve due process?"

What would be the alternative??? We have no alternative.

But I also do see the humor of him asking for a lawyer. He hates our country, but I bet he's thankful for the rule of law right now.

He's a terrorist. He built and planted bombs to hurt/mame/murder innocent people. Two of them being my son and my brother in law.

Sorry if HIS rights are not my top priority.

The arrest of Ahmad Khan Rahami, the man suspected of Saturday's bombing in New York and explosion in New Jersey, is reviving a debate that's become familiar when American citizens are implicated in terrorism post-9/11: Whether or not they can be considered enemy combatants.
Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina, and others have suggested that Rahami be detained by the military as an enemy combatant, in part so he would not have be read his Miranda rights.

Jeff Pegues, CBSNews reports

about the evidence, whether a lone wolf or direct links, "inspiration" LE has that.

Now the real work begins, hard part, was he directed from overseas

Digging potential links in Pakistan. Wife in Dubia (born where?) on her way back to US, not a prime player in the plot...'

rough paraphrase

OK tough post! First better safe than sorry sounds awesome. BUT IMO, we. as a scoeiety have to do something different.

The other day I passed a black( driving) garbage sitting by a black garbage bag.

I thought.

I am not advocating, we be detectives, where we might get our faces blown off. BUT , if one is gonna call " something in" get far away, standr there for two minutes. THEn if noone comes back maybe call.

But sadly, on a whole bunch of levels , this instant calling in for an unattended something has to slo down.

IMO biggest danger is desentization. Two weeks ago , feeling draggy spent day on news, there were three mass hysteria calls. Millions of dollars in exhausting LE, completly destoying thousands of people lives, financial impact huge.

People need to use some "thinking", instead of on their cell phones pusing 911 and going on about thier lives.

See something say something, is awesome . "Bruger Kings "Have It Your Way" was terrific!

However this daily endless hysteria, on two levels has to IMO be toned down. Its giving them exactly what they want - disruption of our daily lives.

Hey they saw wires call. Seeing an unattended entity for three seconds as you pass by , nope.

They are on thier w3ay bye , puncing 911 and going ontheir way causing obserd financial drain, they are exhasuting LE, they are disrupting peoples lives, but most importantly they are desnetizing the public to possible real danger.

I know - everyone wants to get back to taking pictures of their salad. But if you think it is something that could be so horrific, you need to stop playing Pokeman, get away, and stand there for 180 seconds and see if the package or whatver you have determined is a supcious package, and see if it remains unatteded.

Its easy to fly by , while looking for some Poeman thing, dialing 911 causing complete mayhem , sorry needs to stop.

Sounds great see something say something, but please if you are that concenred, quit Pokeman, stay safe, but use some disceration, before you call out the army and disrupt peoples lives , case in a passing fly by you see something unattended.

People (we re animals) how we are wired - it is gonna have a dangeroues result - cause noone is react when they really need to

Lets stop this nilly willy suspcious package cr#p -- if that concerned before calling in the army ascertain for 180 seconds if it worth disrupting thousands lives.

Sounds cold , I know, but there is a limit , sorry, at how often and frequently people can be whizzing by dialing 911 and going about their bussiness.

Enough, before this weekend, on one day I watched 5 false alarms that caused so much disruption

evaluate then call

its out of control, and IMO at the end of the day gonna end in more death, caue noone is gonna pay attn, and then one of them is gonna be real

This weekend people saw wires. I am NOT saying lets go play with packages you whiz by no! But if you have a concern, and you are already THERE, step back, dont touch, but go glance closer before you bash 911

There's no "deserving" something that's guaranteed to you as a citizen.

This hysteria is strange considering the mass shootings at schools, etc. People need to get a grip and don't fall for the bait of spending billions on this and letting everything else fall into a pile such as our roads, bridges and electric grid.

I have little doubt that his rights will be fully respected, until for some reason a judge rules that they haven't been. In cases like this, it seems to me, the justice system is at it's most judicious and careful. Remember the Blind Shiek's trial and all his followers who'd show up? Who is going to show up for this guy?

And while the fear subsides a bit as a draw, controversy rules, sometimes, instead of trying to get more information and facts, which have been flooding in so fast in this case, thus far, through the investigative reporting and LE's public outreach.

A Superior Court judge has granted temporary sole legal custody of Rahami's daughter to the girl's mother.

The judge also suspended Rahami's parenting time with the girl and ordered that he not contact the child, pending an emergent hearing Sept. 27 in Family Court in Middlesex County, where the mother resides.

Barnes denied the request to change the girl's name, saying the claims about the harm to the child are not emergent or irreparable. Barnes said the mother could make a further application for a name change.

Barnes also rejected the mother's request to get a court order for counseling for the girl, saying "the court does not have the power to provide this service." The judge recommended that the mother act on her own to get the service for the girl.

Barnes refused the mother's request for a court order prohibiting members of the press from contacting her or her daughter. Barnes said he did not have the authority to issue such an order.

Wasn't the family granted assylum status?
Clealrly, they felt safe traveling back and forth to Afghanistan. One or two brothers moved there.

When one seeks assylum do they keep citizenship/passport to country of origin?

My guess would be that they received green cards, then citizenship, the parents. The sons and daughter (s?) may have had a choice to get citizenship then or apply later if they were younger than eighteen. Traveling back and forth, I would guess they had both Afghan and perhaps even Pakistani passports as well, possibly. His mom was said to have traveled to Turkey, but his wife popped up in Dubia, or not? Has any of that information been firmed up?
