NY - Bernie Fine Accused of Molestation, Syracuse, 2011

Wow. This story, which I think a lot of people were justifiably skeptical about, just acquired a lot more credibility.

http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/7286347/otl-audio-tape-bernie-fine-wife-admits-worries-abuse

Much, much more at link.

Good reporting here from SportsbyBrooks: Syracuse Post-Standard and ESPN both had the tape in 2003; neither reported it to authorities.

Why Didn’t ESPN Give Fine Tape To Authorities?

This is in response to both posts. What the hades is going on? They have a recording of his wife admitting she saw stuff and yet they don't go to the police so they can call her in and question her? This is just sick and Bizarre.

Syracuse fires assistant basketball coach Fine
By JOHN KEKIS, AP Sports Writer 17 minutes ago

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP)—Syracuse University fired associate head basketball coach Bernie Fine on Sunday in the wake of an investigation of child molestation allegations against him.

“At the direction of Chancellor Cantor, Bernie Fine’s employment with Syracuse University has been terminated, effective immediately,” Kevin Quinn, the school’s senior vice president for public affairs, said in a statement.

The 65-year-old Fine was in his 36th season at his alma mater. He had the longest active streak of consecutive seasons at one school among assistant coaches in Division I....

Good move.

Wednesday the 23rd, the 3rd alleged victim apparently gave his statement, the allegations of which are apparently still within the 10 year federal statute of limitations. Friday the 25th was the search of Fine's home.

I predict Boeheim is at least on administrative leave by this time next week.

Yes, I see, coming shortly: "Boeheim announces retirement at end of hoops season."

Heard that line somewhere before.

I hope that's not true. I hope Boeheim had no idea of this.

Syracuse Orange
Statement from Coach Jim Boeheim:

“The allegations that have come forth today are disturbing and deeply troubling. I am personally very shocked because I have never witnessed any of the activities that have been alleged. I believe the university took the appropriate step tonight. What is most important is that this matter be fully investigated and that anyone with information be supported to come forward so that the truth can be found. I deeply regret any statements I made that might have inhibited that from occurring or been insensitive to victims of abuse.”

Walking it back?

From syracuse.com on Thursday Nov. 17:

Jim Boeheim, coach of the SU basketball team, issued this statement late tonight:

"This matter was fully investigated by the University in 2005 and it was determined that the allegations were unfounded. I have known Bernie Fine for more than 40 years. I have never seen or witnessed anything to suggest that he would been involved in any of the activities alleged. Had I seen or suspected anything, I would have taken action. Bernie has my full support."

At this rate of progress/egress, Boeheim may be gone before next Friday's home game with Florida.

A lot of people were skeptical about this young man's story, but now that the tape has come out and his firing are making people think twice..I am confused by the tape..who has had this tape since 2002? I am going up the University today-my DH works at the hospital up their and he gets paid today..Will let all know what the feel is today!
I feel something is not right about this whole thing..I don't know what though!!!

Davis shared the tape with ESPN in 2003... they decided they couldn't run with it then because of no corroboration/witnesses. Syracuse police apparently wouldn't act on it then or in the interim. As I understand it, Davis's long-time friend persuaded him to go back to ESPN (rather than the police, because they hadn't acted on it earlier) after the Sandusky scandal broke. You're right, Syra... lots and lots of questions here....

http://espn.go.com/new-york/story/_/id/7286347/otl-audio-tape-syracuse-orange-assistant-bernie-fine-wife-admits-worries-abuse

"After "Outside the Lines" first reported the allegations against Fine on Nov. 17, the now-39-year-old Davis shared the tape with Syracuse police, one of several law-enforcement agencies who have opened an investigation into the case. Davis first gave the tape to ESPN in 2003. At the time, ESPN did not report Davis' accusations, or report the contents of the tape, because no one else would corroborate his story."

Jason Whitlock, again taking the road less traveled regarding the unfolding of this case:

Truth is elusive in Bernie Fine scandal
For those of you who can discern the truth within this Syracuse-Bernie Fine-child-molestation scandal, I tip my hat. You have a level of X-ray vision/intellect that escaped my limited physical/mental blessings.

From where I sit — despite the allegations of a third accuser, the public airing of a secretly recorded conversation between Fine’s original accuser and Fine’s wife, and Syracuse’s abrupt decision to fire Fine on Sunday — the truth still appears extremely murky.
---
Again, I’m not a defense attorney. And this column is not written to offer Bernie Fine exoneration. It’s written to point out that the search for truth and justice has been damaged by the media’s desire to capitalize off the Sandusky controversy.

Let’s hold off on treating Jim Boeheim like Joe Paterno and Bernie Fine like Jerry Sandusky at least until the police have conducted a thorough investigation. And, for those of you who really believe in our Constitution, let’s withhold judgment until Boeheim and Fine have had a chance to defend themselves.

Do you think Fine was fired b/c of the tape??? One story said they did a voice analysis and proved it was the wife...why did no one do that in 2003,their was Davis's corroboration that he needed to be believed!! i guess I will have to wait and see what else comes out..I wonder if they found something at his house to support his firing?

Bernie's wife knew............ and one victim says he banged Bernie's wife and Bernie.

So not only did wife Fine close her eyes to her husband's pedophilic behavior, but it appears that she could not wait to get her own hands on victim 1, Bobby D. IMO, wife Fine patiently and deliberately waited, in order to legally protect herself, until Bobby D was 18 yo, though a senior/student in high school.

He may have been of legal age, but Laurie F knew that as a victim of her husband for many years, Bobby D was not emotionally and psychologically 18 yrs of age. Her inability to control and curb her own sexual appetite and gratification, and perhaps to spite her husband or make him jealous as well, took precedence over Bobby D's well-being.

If she didn't want to seek a divorce, she could have chosen to find herself a lover---18 yo or older, but one outside of the immediate situation.

IMO, a morally bankrupt female.

IF there are any grandchildren (and divorce) in the Fine family, I would run to the nearest court to prohibit contact with either of these GP's without supervised visitation.

And that certainly extends to wife Laurie.
