Heartbreaking.

From the link:

A young woman who saw her pregnant mother butchered in front of her 12 years ago became the victim of a horrific murder — killed by her friend’s boyfriend, who beat her to death, then dismembered her body and stuffed the parts in plastic trash bags scattered across two Bronx parks, according to police and the doomed woman’s family.

Lisa Marie Velasquez, was just 12 years old when she and her two younger siblings, David and Vanessa, saw their mom’s ex-boyfriend drag her into her bedroom and stab her to death as his current girlfriend held her down.

:( Poor young woman.

There are two perps in custody, a man and a woman. The woman was apparently friends with the victim. What in the world happened??

And why in the world would they dismember?
And why in the world would they leave the bags of body parts in public parks where people would find them?

Still so much missing information.

The female perp said:
"'She was my friend. I loved her,' Martinez said in custody outside the 42nd Precinct station house, where both suspects were being held."

Couple arrested after friend's body parts found in bags
They say that Wheeler and Martinez had been fighting and Velasquez came over to help.

The police were called for a domestic dispute, but after filing a report, they eventually left.

Wheeler also left, but police say he came back with a hammer, hitting the victim twice in the head.

One of the people arrested for concealing her body and hindering the investigation had this to say:

“She was my friend. I loved her,” Martinez said in custody outside the 42nd Precinct station house, where both suspects were being held. (From the Post article)

Lisa Marie Velasquez's life was so tragic and for her friend to be arrested in connection with killing her compounds the idea that so many people are living lives on the margins.

This is assuming our Jane Doe was kidnapped from a family. It's just as likely, if not more likely, that this would be a runaway who was reported possibly even years ago. Perhaps a girl who was trafficked to New York and then had a run-in with a torso killing john.

I've had two friends who were reported missing in other states end up in New York due to sex trafficking (something they got in to because of heroin addiction). They both got lucky and were able to escape their pimps and go to treatment centers in the state I live now. In the recovery world, it is not uncommon to know women who ended up in NYC for long periods of time due to drug use.

(almost) exactly my point. So that's why I think it could be Kaylynn Martinez. Her face looks very similar to me....her eyebrows (close to her eyes, almost surrounding them and also her nose have the same typical shape)

Sorry guys.....missed the newest posts.

OMG....! What a horrible tragedy. Indeed a doomed family. Breaks my heart. May you be under the wings of your mama once again Lisa. Rest in Peace.

I keep thinking that Lisa may have felt some subconscious urge to help her friend escape an abusive relationship because she felt like she couldn't save her mother from an abusive relationship. This is an absolutely tragic situation.

Explains why she would help her friend and not tolerate domestic violence. She should have called police from home. I so wish that she had. Rest In Peace sweet angel.

Why oh why did they leave the bags in two separate parks, right out in the open for children to find. imo.
( sorry cannot figure out how to make my question mark function to work correctly)

More info about the crime at the link: Couple arrested after friend's body parts found in bags

The victim went to her friend's apartment after her friend called to say she was having problems with her boyfriend. After Lisa arrived, the boyfriend left and the women called the police. The police arrived and took a complaint. Later, the bf came back and attacked the Lisa Marie. He says, however, Lisa Maria was already dead and in bags when he came back.

Lisa Marie's friend says she was forced to help dismember the body. The boyfriend threatened her and her child, according to her.

Both people charged have criminal history.

if the two women were close friends, the abuser may have killed her to hurt the partner and the partner covered for him because she was afraid. hopefully LE will get to the bottom.

Do we know that police weren’t called?

I thought the man hunted her down after the fact and attacked her?

ETA: Post above mine says police were called. Good!

She was a good person to help her friend and call in the DV. It is sad that the female suspect let him back in the apartment. He probably knew the police were called and suspected Lisa Marie rather than his partner as it sounds like this is part of a DV pattern in their relationship. If we believe her story (and I do), to force the female suspect into dismembering her friend is one more abuse visited upon her. I am so glad that they found them.

The police were called.

There is discussion happening on the other thread for this case, including a he-said-she-said description of what happened. (Both perps are blaming the other for the murder.) Please check it out.

I'll try alerting a mod again with a request to merge the threads.

Police were called AFTER the man left the two women at friend's house. I meant I wish instead of going over there herself, Lisa would've called the police FOR her friend from Lisa's own home instead of placing herself in danger. Her aunt said she flew out of her own home to go help a friend who was in danger.

I can't imagine she ever thought she was in any danger despite his past history of violence. She probably would not have known ow big the current issue was. I wonder if he saw the police at their apartment as he watched from somewhere or called home and found out that she called. The new element in their dynamic was Lisa and he must have thought it was her fault that he would be picked up on a DV charge, possibly going back to prison.

I feel like we see this kind of thing fairly often--people dealing with volatile situations and assessing things to be safer than they are. It is so hard to recognize how dangerous people are.
