whomever she was with certainly didn't want her id'd. It looks like they made her dress like a boy to disguise her. Anyone else think it was strange that she was in courderoys and a flannel shirt? It seems pretty strange to me since she was so young and not a stitch of pink or purple in her clothing.

It dawned on me today, maybe she is from a military family. I am not sure how the military treats missing dependents. Say somebody's child goes missing on a military base in Germany. That makes me think that on a base, missing children reports were handled differently than they would for a civilian living in the US.

We know that she probably did not receive any dental care based on the condition of her teeth. Now, in the Armed Services, your family receives full medical and dental care. However, back in the 60's and 70's that was not the case, the only dental care a child of a soldier could receive was emergency or if it was part of another medical procedure. The only time a dependent could receive routine dental care was when they were overseas or in some remote location of the U.S. (think some Island in Alaska) where dental care was not available. It wasn't until 1986 that the military started to provide dental insurance to servicemen's families.

I got that information from this document: http://www.cna.org/sites/default/files/research/d0000437.a3.pdf

I don't think that the person who killed her made any effort to not have her identified. He did not hide the body or anything. I also do not think was forced to dress that way. She had lots of scars (not medical scars) which seems to imply that she was a tomboy, hence the clothing. She was plenty girly; she had painted nails, a heart-shaped keychain, and panties and bra.

In the end, my theory is that her killer was family and they were not from the area. Some type of argument erupted, probably over his accusing her of stealing something from him.

Add that to the truckers that called in. You would think if she had a foreign accent, someone would pick up on it.

Even though she doesn't look it, I was thinking she might be an Iranian immigrant. Keep in mind, at the beginning of the year the Ayatollah seized power and, at the time there were a lot of Persians coming to the US. However, it seems all the people that might have had contact with her never noted an accent.

I would also assume the truckers who called in gave more information, than they just "saw her".

Furthermore, her blood-type would make it very unlikely she was Middle Eastern. Her blood-type is very rare.

I do not know where your family was stationed, but my Dad did 30 yrs in the Marines.....and my parents were required to keep up with All our health and DENTAL needs. Neglecting your child was actually a serious offense .

Thinking of Cali and reading this article. We can't give up hope! I might write to Joe Manning to see what strategies he recommends for putting up Cali's photos.

Reading the last few posts, I think Cali chose to dress that way b/c she liked it. It was cold, so cords and flannel make sense. Retained a girly air about her by wearing the heart key chain, the bird necklace, toe polish, and frosted hair- as was also suggested in previous posts.

I am going to stay focused on her dental isotopes more than the pollen in the jacket. But that's just my strategy.

Wow, yeah, certainly a strong resemblance in the bone structure. Fingers crossed.

The two big toe thing makes me raise my eyebrows. Cali had many scars listed, so I feel they did a good job making sure all were listed.....I think they would have listed the scar if she had a extra toe removed.....but I will cross my fingers.....

Yeah, that gives me pause, but in ten years, a scar like that could have faded to almost invisibility.

Yes, it could have. I just also think the ethnicity is off, as well as the nose. and the eye shape. JMO but I think there are just to many differences. I will still cross my fingers, I always do when someone is submitted.

I don't see Deloris Stanton on the thread. She was 5'2" and weighed 110 lbs. She went missing from Gainsville, Fl on April 13, 1976. She was a native of Beaver Falls, Pa and a known hitchhiker.

Her NamUs profile; has no pics & no DNA. Does anyone know her NamUs case workers?

The waitress remembers nothing of Cali which I think is weird. I used to pump gas; I was always checking people out; talking to people. I find it strange she did not remember Cali; who IMO was an attractive gal.

IIRC; they tried to track the jackets but the manufacturer did not keep track of where they went & how many were given out.

Do they have any idea who gave them out and to whom?

They were given out at races as a promotional item. Apparently there were several thousand of them handed out all over the country. It's early in the thread if you want to go back to look for it.
