NY - Christopher Porco - Another Menandez situation? - sentenced

  • #461
I never heard about this case until I happen to click on this link. I read all the e-mails, unbelieveable. Seems as though his dad was trying to help him. Nothing bitter or hateful in the dad's e-mails. I'd be furious with my child if they had forged my stuff on loan applications and lied to me repeatedly. Did y'all notice (I'm sure you did) that he was so wrapped up in himself that he didn't even call his mom on her birthday. The dad said in an e-mail (paraphrasing here) "yesterday was your mom's birthday, I'm sure she'd appreciate a phone call from you today" Can't understand why his mom stood by him during the trial,,,,but then again I guess I can. Obviously Chris is sick and she loves him. Course I also notice that his parents were constantly enabling him, his dad especially, and his mom is continuing to do so.

Sadly, sociopaths are all about themselves and relationships to them are only about how the other person can be of use to them. After a person is no longer useful to a sociopath, they are discarded. I believe that Chris realized that his father was no longer going to believe the ridiculous stories that Chris was feeding him and so he could no longer use Peter for free money. When it came time to get rid of his parents, I assure you that Chris Porco as a sociopath would not have needed any drugs or alcohol to do what he did. His parents simply weren't useful to him any longer so he got rid of them.

Nanandjim gave some great examples of other cases that are similar to this one. Neil Entwhistle is the one that is most strikingly similar, IMO. After reading about many cases here at WS, Chris is certainly not unique. Maybe he thought he had it all figured out but there's no doubt that LE knew from moment 1 that Chris did this. The e-mails demonstrating the financial troubles, Chris' constant blame on everything but himself, etc., just makes this a classic case of sociopathy and a classic case of behavior leading up to the crime, IMO. Unfortunately, there are TONS of cases similar to this here at WS.

The e-mails and the testimony are shocking. Thanks to everyone for keeping this case updated.
Wouldn't they have been useful dead as he'd stand to inherit half their estate?

I just want the public to know that, except for:

1. the birthday party given by Atty. Kindlon for his client Christopher Porco in June, 2006, at which event the crew of 48 Hours was invited, along with Joan Porco and her attorney, John Polster, and other friends (no family); and

2. the jail house interview with Christopher, arranged by attorneys Kindlon and Shanks, after the guilty verdict….

Not one other Porco family member (nuclear or extended) participated in any way in the production of 48 Hours.

When first contacted by 48 Hours, Kindlon and Shanks readily agreed to participate in this made for tv production because they firmly believed their client would be judged “not guilty.” What an awesome opportunity for national advertisement and recognition…a testimony to their great abilities as defense attorneys! In the end, when the Orange County jury found Christopher Porco guilty of murdering his father and trying to murder his mother (with an ax!), Kindlon and Co. allowed 48 Hours a jail house interview with their client…the first installment of the public campaign to overturn the truth with technical appeal tactics.

The Porco family members believe that neither the murder of Peter, nor the attempted murder of Joan in such a horrific manner by their son, should be the subject of a Saturday night television program aimed at the entertainment of the masses and ratings. We believe that Joan’s lawyer, as well as Christopher’s lawyers, were self-serving in their permission and participation in the production of the upcoming episode relating to the murder and destruction of the Porco family. If these attorneys hadn’t willing participated with CBS, Law Enforcement and the Prosecution would not have been forced to publically produce the evidence and truth in this case… and, our family’s 24 months of horrors would not be a 48 Hours special.

If its any comfort ,it looks like it will not be airing tonight. I don't know why.
I'm sorry that the Porco family and friends have to continue living this nightmare. I don't believe these attorneys have anyones best interest at heart except for themselves.

Thank you for your very thought-provoking post.

I'm sure that I speak for all of us when I say that we certainly don't view your family's nightmare as "entertainment". We are a group of people interested in understanding, reaching out, seeking justice, etc. So many of us on this site have past experiences of our own that draw us to others that are also suffering. I suppose that it's like a support group of sorts and discussing other cases, helping search in missing persons cases, holding candles at vigils, donating money to reward funds, etc., is cathartic for many of us.

My heart goes out to all of you. I cannot put into words how sorry I am for all that your family has to endure.

Dear Jersey Girl:
As you can imagine, our family couldn't believe (at first) that Christopher could have possibly committed these horrific attacks against his parents. But, as time went on and LE began to share some of its evidence pertaining to the case against Christopher with us, we began to doubt and wonder. Soon, we became convinced that Chris had murdered his father and tried to murder his mother. We thought, however, he would never be convicted on the circumstantial evidence that made sense to us but (without forensic proof) might not convince a jury. In addition, Chris had a defense team that would use any tactic and a victim (Chris's mother) that refused to believe her son could do such things.
That's when we found your community.

We read your posts with not only interest, but with hope that a jury might come to the same conclusions your members were coming to. We didn't think we should contribute to this thread for many family reasons...mostly, out of respect for our Joan. But, we did take encouragement from your insights.

When I wrote my post about 48 Hours and its "entertainment" factor, I meant no disrespect to your members. I know that you and others have been with this case from the beginning. That you have been there for all the twists and turns: The theatrics of the defense team; the change of venue; the yellow jeep that was a billboard for a psychopath; and, the guilty verdict. Many times, when the judge in this case made rulings against allowing certain evidence to be presented, I would turn to your posts just to keep myself from becoming totally discouraged. My outburst against 48 Hours was against the defense lawyers and Joan's lawyer who saw this program as a great source of advertisement and their 15 minutes of fame...(because they thoroughly believed that they would get a not guilty verdict)...NOT AN ATTACK AGAINST WEBSLUETHS! Once again, in my frustration, I turned to your community to express those sentiments. I didn't realize that you would think I was "slamming" you or anyone else on this site. I just wanted you, the public that cared, to know that we did not participate in the telling of this horror story.

My apologies to anyone on this site that I unintentionally offended.

After the show airs, I will share my thoughts on the presentation with you. And, I will tell you the next saga of the Kindlon/Shanks theatrics to take place prior to the sentencing. I am breaking my silence because I believe you are the people who deserve to know the whole story. Thank you

Dear Sacandaga Captain,

My thoughts and prayers continue to be with all those who love the Porcos and also especially Mrs. Porco. I am so sorry that a family member betrayed all that is good and kind in this world and violently ripped the family apart.

No, no offense taken at all. I totally understood what you meant. Your post simply got me to thinking about whose pockets are being filled when I, myself, tune into programs like those and what effect our collective viewing interests might have on the real people like you that have to endure nightmares like these on a continual basis. I found myself wondering - if there was no one interested in watching these shows, would it help to end the perpetuation of defense attorneys' nonsense that families like yours are forced to endure?

Well, it's late and before I babble endlessly, let me end this post by thanking you for your kind response, assuring you once again that no offense was taken whatsoever, and reminding you that our hearts go out to all of you. I'm so glad to hear that you did find some comfort at WS, and I surely hope that you can continue to come here and chat with us and find that same comfort in the weeks and months ahead.

Sacandaga Captain,
As a poster and local observer of this heinous crime,I want to let you know the sorrow I feel for your family, and I agree with Jersey Girl,no offense taken by your post. I often watch these programs and will now take into considerstion the bias they might have,ie a defensive team that wants some advertising.
Unfortunatley ,I knew from the beginning that Chris was guilty, from various local people. Its unfortunate that the defense attorneys exploited the situation and turned Joan against the people who she needs now more than ever. I hope she is doing better.

Also interesting from jannuncutt's article:

...Porco attorney Terence L. Kindlon agreed to make his client available exclusively to the CBS show with the condition that Van Sant could not ask questions about Porco's whereabouts the night of the murder, the CBS correspondent said in an interview with the Times Union. Questions about an alleged visit by Porco to the home the day before the slayings were also out of bounds...

Also, Van Sant said that he was struck by Porco's lack of emotion while talking about the case. "Chris seemed so detached from what happened to his family, the reporter said. "Never did I see a single tear".

We heard about his detached demeanor throughout this entire process. IMO, his ability to be so detached is a hell of an indicator of his sociopathic mind.

While Chris Porco most likely committed the crime himself and was alone; I've thought all along there was a slim chance there might have been someone else with him or involved with him. This wouldn't affect sentencing; either way he deserves the max and I hope he gets the max because I'm convinced he made the trip from Rochester to Delmar and disarmed the alarm; thus either doing the crime alone or with someone. So either way he deserves the max. But I have to admit that I find it interesting that he said the "real killers"; were still out there; instead of just saying the "real killer" is out there. Is he trying to tell us something by pluralizing the word killer? Who knows, right; but if he did have an accomplice, he can't come right out and say he had help or he'd be admitting his own guilt, so if he did have help; this would be an interesting way of his telling the public that there was someone else invloved. And yes; I'll admit that I never eliminated the possibility that it was Porco with someone else because I thought there were a couple of clues that were completely ignored by the police. When I heard there was a tv interview; I was curious if he'd say anything in the interview that would indicate he had help, which is why pluralizing killer jumped out at me. And to the Captain; I can't speak for anyone else, but I hope that time will slowly make things better for you and your family and I wouldn't worry about the sleazy efforts of Kindlon/Shanks; Porco will get the max.

I think that maybe Chris said the "real killers" instead of "real Killer" to imply that the crime was to horrible and complex to be committed by only one person. IMO, he is still trying to manipulate.

I plan to watch the 48 Hours on Saturday but, I will not be online for a few weeks. I will be having surgery on Monday. Please do me a favor and keep the thread up-to-date (I think that we've done a pretty darn good job here!) so I can catch up on everything when I come back. Okay?

He took another line out of the "Scott Peterson script". I think that is one of his lines.

jannuncutt-good luck with your surgury
