It's not that unusual that a person vomits while getting CPR, and if the person giving CPR isn't prepared for the vomiting, and doesn't know what to do in such a case, it can become a problem.

Thanks for posting your links, it's helpful to try and understand the procedures that are necessary and can change depending on the situation as it evolves. I certainly would never want to be in that situation, especially at night on a boat.

The order described by the parents lawyer though described it as slumped over, non-responsive and gone almost immediately. No mention about when the vomiting occurred.

This quote from your link bothers me, "It is likely that the patient will vomit if he or she will recover from the event or will vomit after the patient regains consciousness." The way I interpret or speculate the above quote is if she was actually throwing up it was before she slumped over (because of the order given in the press) and then lost consciousness and what would cause that? I wish there was more clarity.

In the second article it says:
One of the most likely complication to occur when doing CPR is vomiting. Most victims vomit during or after a rescue.
If a person is unfamiliar/unskilled with CPR they may press down below the ribcage, on the ventricle, instead of between the breasts, where the heart is situated, and if you put pressure on the ventricle and it's filled, then the contents of the ventricle can be pressed upwards as vomit.

OT: There is one time when you should press on the belly, and that is when someone is choking after having got something in the windpipe, then it's time to try the Heimlich maneuver, How To Do the Heimlich Maneuver
