So how many kids does Stephen Howell have?

One girl and two boys?

If so when I look at his fb pictures his daughter looks like a mini version of his girlfriend/Nicole Vaisey.

Also his daughter does not look happy in some of the pictures...sad eyes:(

I've been thinking about the man that drove them home, and while I think some people will find it 'unorthodox', I understand it. I don't know how close his property was to the perps, but if he was a neighbor, and the perps said that they would be back soon, he may have not wanted to risk waiting for the police. Especially if they had weapons, etc. Maybe guns were mentioned and they just wanted to get the heck out of there. I know the police PROBABLY would have gotten there before the perps got home, but what if they didn't and the perps went to the neighbors house? What if there was a nasty confrontation or shots fired? Plus, there were police all over the girls' hometown, so it's not like it would be hard to find an officer once they got home.

In a situation where there are two dangerous, unpredictable people who could show up at any time, I would probably want to leave too. JMO, though. I mean the girls saw the perps, knew where they lived (so did the man who drove them), so I don't think he thought that they would suddenly point the finger at him as the perp .

Also, I think they gave them watermelon vs a cooked meal because it was quick. I think that they were trying to get the girls out of there ASAP. Being Amish, I'm sure that they don't really eat 'processed' foods, so watermelon may have been the most whole, quick, kid friendly food available.

I read on one articles that they passed the perp's car on the way home and ducked in the back seat, so they didn't have a whole lot of time apparently between leaving the neighbor's house and the perps returning.

I agree. In addition, this is a man who has bought corn and produce from these girls. He is familiar with the Amish. I find what he did more than anything, sensitive and concerning about their way of life. They don't have experience with the chaos of the police and all that. Get them home to their community and family unit and call the police from their place of comfort. I am happy he did that. Could you (you, in the general sense) imagine how terrified the would have been to whisked away by police and everything else?

Ribs are slow-roasting with apple wood in the smoker. Should be great for 5pm.

Pic of him in his pool mid July >> https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd....8_10152270148589092_6860124587504657743_n.jpg

I found a pic of female perp with him on May 8, so they've been together that long. I 'll cruise his timeline to see anything.

ETA He seems to like farm life, rebuilding his house / remodeling, cooking on the grill and indoors , horses and taking the kids on fun outings, monster truck, etc.

The pic on May 8th is at an aquarium in Mass. He was in Jax Florida in June and there are pics on her fb of swimming with dolphins from 2013. It concerns me that they seem to travel a lot. This may not be the first time that this has happened.

Actually the perp seems pretty ' all American'' dad . It's bizarre and really even more disturbing . He likes politics, seems to LOVE food of any variety at any time, cooked with any method. He seems a doting, concerned parent. He likes to do 'regular joe' stuff. On the surface , anyway !

Also he tags her and mentions her in a Christmas tree pic, december 2013, so they've been together at least since then. I was hoping to see if they were a new couple or a many years together couple.

A northern New York couple used "coercion tactics" to lure two Amish sisters into their car during a kidnapping, the St. Lawrence County sheriff said today,

http://abcnews.go.com/US/couple-charged-kidnapping-amish-girls/story?id=25006763

".Howells and Vaisey will face other charges, including possible federal charges, said Wells, adding that they may have planned to kidnap more girls. Both suspects are being held without bail."

Investigators pursuing other possible suspects, victims in Amish kidnapping -

CANTON — CANTON — Investigators are now pursuing other possible suspects and potential victims after two Hermon residents were charged Friday with kidnapping two Amish girls, according to St. Lawrence County Sheriff Kevin M. Wells.

“We feel that there was the definite potential that there was going to be other victims from these two,” Sheriff Wells said. “There was a lot of thought process went into this. They were looking for opportunities. The motive was to take these girls from their home to victimize them. We were lead to house through information the girls’ provided and a lot of police work.”

The couple did not know the girls, but the act was planned out, Sheriff Wells said. He said the kidnappers were not specifically targeting Amish children, but “targeting opportunity.”

[...]

Mr. Howells is a registered nurse with Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center. Sheriff Wells declined to comment whether drugs played a role in the kidnapping. Ms. Vaisey works at the Bows and Bandanas pet Salon and Resort, Potsdam. They have been a couple for over a year and half, Sheriff Wells said.

Sheriff Wells said the investigation remains active, and the victims were able to lead police investigators their captors. The sheriff’s department has credited the 12-year-old victim with providing police with critical information that led to the apprehension of Mr. Howells and Ms. Vaisey.

“The girls were strong,” Mr. Wells said. “They were able to verbalize to investigators some different facts about their time in captivity and with those details were instrumental in us being able to make the arrests.”

Sheriff Wells said the couple abducted the girls with the intent to sexually victimize them.

Attorney Bradford C Riendeau, Watertown, who represented Ms. Vaisey, has suggested his client was also a victim in the case.

“They were both involved in the complete scenario,” Sheriff Wells said. “They have been cooperative in interviews to the point where we gained and moved ahead with the arrests.”

Mr. Wells said that Mr. Howell’s three children were not in the home during the time of the abduction, and are living with their mother.

Court documents alleged Mr. Howells and Ms. Vaisey abducted the two children and restrained the children for more than 12 hours with the intent to either inflict physical injury or violate or abuse the two children sexually.
They are each charged with two counts of first-degree kidnapping and were sent to the St. Lawrence County Jail without bail following their arraignment late Friday night in Fowler Town Court. A preliminary hearing has tentatively been scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday.

Based on evidence found at the couple’s home, he said federal charges could be pending.

Are you sure this was said on the CBS Morning show?

The news article/video on CBS Morning said both girls were unharmed.

http://www.cbsnews.com/videos/new-york-couple-arrested-in-amish-girls-kidnapping/

Yes, I am positive. I was surprised to hear it. I don't know who the anchor is, but she was wearing yellow. At least I'm pretty sure it was CBS! I suppose it COULD have been after I changed it to ABC/GMA??? I had only had a half a cup of coffee at that point...... (I apologize if I'm wrong, but there was definitely a morning anchor who had those words come out of her mouth this morning).

I was just about to ask this. I watched the entire morning show this morning and did not hear them say they were assaulted at all.

What time zone are you in? If you're in the west coast, could it have been edited out by then?

Thanks for finding the correct news article - so sick to hear that the girls were harmed...:( awful!!!!
I wish this would have not made the news and kept private..poor girls..

Actually they may never hear it. The fact that they don't use media/tv/newspaper/internet means they will hopefully never hear that these details came out. In fact, it's possible they have no idea how things like ' internet' work and that people are talking about it right now. That would be a good thing for them .

I wonder if the family asked LE to only pursue kidnapping. Not wanting to go through any sexual abuse routes, per their culture (it may make it very difficult for the girls to stay accepted) Also the girls may not have been allowed to have a full physical at the hospital, so they may not know exactly what took place with them. Sweet girls just living a peaceful life....such monsters out there :(

Interesting on SH's Fb on May 16 he posts a saying about you are responsible for everything you do...no one else (paraphrased)
