Amish abduction 6 months ago still a part of life in Hermon, Heuvelton

The ramshackle house and trailer at 1380 County Route 21, where Howells and Vaisey lived and allegedly committed the crimes, is now gone.

Mr. Howells’ home went up in a blaze Nov. 23 after next-door neighbors Jamie P. Matthews, 43, and his wife, Kimberly A., 41, got permission from the FBI and officials from the state Department of Environmental Conservation to hold a controlled burn.

I don't typically follow trials but I'm curious as to what the female perp's defense will be since she made it clear she wants to be seen as his victim/ slave, whatever.
I hope the girls can remain unseen and their identities protected during this time.

unfreakin' believable, I'm beyond pizzed. I would think they have enough and more, to put these two degenerates away for life + 60 years without having the victims testify. ugh.

Oh, and the female perp saving the girls lives? Yep, sure.

I'd be okay with a plea deal if it meant without it, life, but with it, 80 years. Shave a little off because the sketchy pedophile girlfriend talked the equally sketchy pedophile boyfriend out of killing the girls.

I don't believe the female slug convinced the male slug to let the girls go.

I don't believe the female slug convinced the male slug to let the girls go.

And if she did, that hurts her "poor little slave" defense.

"I think between both of us, we'll get the sentence that is most appropriate," said Rain .... "

Boy, she sounds like a real winner (sarcasm). "...most appropriate...." they have enough evidence to put them both away for at least three lifetimes, never mind being put to death. That would be the appropriate sentence. Good God.

New trial date for accused kidnappers of Amish girls

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – There’s a new trial date for a couple accused of kidnapping two Amish girls from a roadside in St. Lawrence County near the Canadian border. Stephen Howells II, 39, and girlfriend Nicole Vaisey, 25, will be in a federal court June 22.

More:

The federal court trial date for a Hermon couple charged with sexually exploiting six girls — including two sisters from Heuvelton whom the pair is accused of kidnapping last August — has been changed for the fourth time, this time moved up a month.
Stephen M. Howells II, 39, and Nicole F. Vaisey, 25, were most recently set to go to trial in U.S. District Court, Syracuse, on July 6, but Judge Glenn T. Suddaby ordered Thursday that the trial begin June 22. Court documents cite only “a conflict with the Court’s calendar” as the reason for the change.

Howells’s case may not end up going to trial at all as a change-of-plea hearing has been scheduled for May 8. A change-of-plea hearing is scheduled only when a defendant has indicated a willingness to accept responsibility for the charged crimes and enter guilty pleas. No such hearing has been set for Vaisey.

"Investigators told 7 News that 39 year old Stephen Howells initially planned to kill the girls and bury the bodies to hide the crime.

"However, Howell's 25 year old girlfriend, Nicole Vaisey, convinced him to let them go, they said....

"Sources close to the investigation also tell us more sexually disturbing video images were detected on the couple's computer hard drive involving several handicapped adults."

Snipped from the above: "We're looking into all aspects of their lives in the past ten, 20 years. We've gone back that far," said Detective Sergeant Brooks Bigwarfe of the sheriff's department.

He is 39, so 20 years ago would put him at 19 - but she's only 25...I don't want to think about what may have occurred during that time frame. Ugh!
