A 39-year-old telemarketer from Queens was brought into the 19th Precinct early this morning, police sources said. Sources say the suspect was a patient of one of the victims, Dr. Kent Shinbach, who was critically injured in the stabbing.

ETA: and why didn't Shinbach recognize him and ID a guy who looks nothing like him?

Last night they said that the doc was at the window (facing the street) yelling for help as they (her hubby and herself) lived right across the street in another apt. building. The window was covered as there was alot of blood splatter on it and they wanted to preserve it and also because it would have attracted alot of lookey-loos.

I think LE got him!!!

Detectives are questioning a new suspect in the murder of upper East Side therapist Kathryn Faughey, who was hacked to death with a meat cleaver inside her Manhattan office, police sources said.
Investigators matched a fingerprint taken off one of the two bags the killer abandoned at the crime scene to the suspect, the sources said.
Cops grabbed the suspect – who has a long history of mental illness – about midnight and hauled him to the 19th Precinct stationhouse in Manhattan for questioning, the sources said. (more at link)

yes, i think you're right, Suzi!...thank goodness!

Cops believe the suspect was furious with psychologist Kathryn Faughey over a decision that sent him to a mental institution, the sources told the Daily News.

The 39-year-old Queens telemarketer was picked up by cops shortly after midnight, according to sources. Investigators noted he fits the description of the balding, fat-faced killer.

foxnews is just now reporting about the new suspect.....

I hope it is him so this total nut case is off the streets before he brutally murders someone else..

I'm hoping they caught the right one also, although a fingerprint matches one on the suitcase, so i'm guessing they did.
They need to check to see if he has any family or a girlfriend (possibly the clothing belonged to one of them?) and make sure they are not dead or in danger.
I think Shinbach didn't recognize him since he was a former patient of Faughey (doesn't say how long ago or where).

The former patient angle was a good one they LE looked at.
As for the killer talking to the female patient in the waiting area; i'm guessing the killer instigated the conversation either from just a mere greeting from the female or he started it in an attempt to not seem suspicious and find out possibly which doctor she was meeting with at the time.

Tarloff, who was being questioned at Manhattan's 19th Precinct stationhouse, has a long history of mental problems and previous hospitalizations, the sources said. He has not been charged with a crime.
His neighbors said he had been institutionalized by the state. He shared his Corona apartment with his elderly mom until she was put in a nursing home, they said.
"He was just an eccentric person wandering around the building. He was a person not like the rest of us," a neighbor said.
"He seemed like a person who was screaming for help. He was always fighting and arguing with the mother. The police came a few times."

ETA: I hope that his mother really is in a nursing home and that's not just what Tarloff said.

Police sources said Tarloff was a patient of Dr. Kent Shinbach, a psychiatrist who survived the vicious slashing rampage on Tuesday night. Shinbach once had Tarloff committed to a mental institution, sources said.
***

Tarloff was again arrested for assault two weeks ago after he punched a security guard in the face at St. John's Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway.
The security guard approached Tarloff after he saw the visitor yelling, swearing and approaching the nurses in a threatening manner, police said.
Tarloff also touched a critical care patient "in violation of prearranged visitation conditions," they said. He was charged with assault, disorderly conduct and harassment and was released the next day without bail.

An explanation as to why Shindach didn't remember the suspect:
ETA: the below link needs a password. Nothing new in that article other than what I posted below.

In statements to investigators, Mr. Tarloff expressed anger at Dr. Shinbach, whom he blamed for having him committed to a mental health institution. Officials said it was unclear if Mr. Tarloff ever been a patient of Dr. Shinbach’s. But investigators said they had some information indicating that Dr. Shinbach may have been involved in treating Mr. Tarloff, perhaps as long as 15 years ago, the officials said.

i am wondering if the critically ill patient with the pre-arranged visitation was his mother and he tried to do something like strangle her.

having lived with his mother and she going into the nursing home a few years ago would be consistent with why he has that praticular brand of adult diapers.

an update coming up on foxnews within the half hour....(news conference with LE)
