Jacinto Remigio, 73, fell out a sixth-floor window that one of the thieves initially opened to climb into the apartment near West 161st Street and Broadway before he let the other two perps inside through the front door around 4:30 a.m., sources said.

Wait, so how did he fall? The article above is confusing and says two different things.

Investigators suspect Remigio, who might have been intoxicated, accidentally fell out of the window when he tried to shut it and landed on the scaffolding below, sources said.

and

A neighbor, Heriberto Garcia, told NBC 4 that Remigo climbed out of the window and attempted to use a small ledge to reach another window leading up to the fatal fall.

So, did he fall out trying to close the window or did he climb out onto the ledge? If the ledge, why was he out there?
