Those headed for trial may not make it to trial. The charges might be dropped.

No inside info here; just things that wouldn't surprise me.

I believe I've found the answer to the question of whether or not the family was allowed to be with Evanna when she was removed from life support.

The family insists that they were not and that Evanna's parents were "banned" from being with her. The short video of the Steve and Heidi's arraignment posted back in the thread showed the DA explaining that the parents had permission to go to her but did not. They had an exception to the Order of Protection to allow them to be with Evanna during her last hours.

In a May 11 post the family accused DSS of intentionally asking a friend of theirs where they were while knowing the friend didn't know. According to the family DSS had asked that person at least 6 times about where the parents were. Contrary to the parents' claim IMO DSS probably also asked others if they knew where Steve and Heidi were.

DSS told that person to tell the parents that Evanna was declining rapidly and they should come to the hospital the next morning. In fact DSS suggested by 9:30 am. They complained in the post that had they shown up then it would probably have been right when doctors took her off life support.

But the parents never showed up to the hospital so the doctors went ahead and removed Evanna from life support.

That's a very different story from what they are posting now. Now they say Steve and Heidi were actually barred from going to Evanna. They declare it over and over, even as recently as November 28. It's not true - their own words expose their lie. This is not my own opinion, this is their own narrative.

Wow. I can't think of one reason, just ONE reason to not show up at the hospital after being informed that Evanna was declining rapidly. I also can't understand how one of them, either Heidi or Steven, didn't insist in staying with Evanna. They just left.

For someone who "fights" so hard, they sure didn't put up a fight to be with Evanna on her last moments. If Bob Gibson was actually there like they have stated, they should actually thank him, for not leaving their little girl to die by herself.

To be clear, what the parents are saying is that DSS purposely went out of their way to make sure Steve and Heidi wouldn't be located. Which of course makes no sense. I agree with you that it may have been a ploy by the parents to look like martyrs.

Plus, there were 5 other adults who knew where Steve and Heidi were. I don't believe DSS didn't ask them, I believe the parents are lying. IMO.

Posted earlier in this thread was the opinion that the TB Family are " Wound Collectors". I happened to agree with that opinion, and to add to it...they teach/taught 'acting' classes.... So the 'ploy' of being unavailable makes sense to me even more

This family member has been stating for some time that although Evanna's ankles swelled the actual swelling took place from the parlor to the hospital because they filled her with fluids.

However, early on that is not what this family member said. The following link shows they knew about her swollen ankles a week and a half before she collapsed in their parlor.

They didn't fight very hard to get medical attention when her condition was deteriorating.
If my animals get sick, I take them to the vet ASAP, seeking expensive emergency treatment if necessary. I have saved the life of several pets over the years by doing this.

I'm intrigued that (paraphrasing), 'the whole family suffered from a bad cold in October *AND* November' yet no-one thought it was concerning that at least someone in the family was sick for 2 months, with such a healthy lifestyle, and no disclosed pre-existing conditions (I mean, we've had a run-down of Ht's menstrual tracking, so SURELY more notable chronic family health deficits would have been disclosed IMO).??

I've lived there and do not trust the D. A., Paul Czajka.
So why do you think he's going to drop the charges? Do you mean just against Heidi and Steve or all 7 adults?

It would not surprise me either. If what the family says is true, DSS did not have sufficient proof that the children were in imminent danger.

I've seen CPS open cases for families, stating various reasons, conduct a lengthy investigation, only to abruptly close the case without explanation. Usually it's because they either didn't have enough evidence to prove neglect or they built their case on assumptions.

Normally CPS will first work with the family, providing medical and mental health treatment and other services if necessary, before removing children from the home.

In this case it was the tragic and sudden death of a child that prompted them to open an investigation. So far we've barely heard what evidence LE has. According to the family they didn't interview witnesses in the year since Evanna died. Their allegations of sexual abuse proved to be false.

That doesn't mean the parents were not neglectful in providing proper medical care. Most would agree that they should have taken Evanna to the doctor much sooner.

As for the manslaughter charges, the prosecution would have to prove there is a direct link between the parent's neglect and the child's death. They would have to show that the adults were aware that Evanna was gravely ill and knowing the consequences, deliberately delayed seeking medical care.

IMO

Yes, they said they noticed the swelling, it went away, and then reappeared on the day they called 911. In one post they mentioned that she had been sick for a couple of weeks, and the cold that everyone else had lasted about 3 weeks.

With any child, a cold or virus that persists for more than five days would normally prompt a parent to go to the doctor, especially if new symptoms appear or worsen. It could be a sign of a secondary infection.

They also hinted that other family members had been to a doctor for the same virus and they have the medical records. So why didn't they take Evanna?

Imo

Logic and reasoning seems alien to the adults in this family, IMHO.

ETA
I really wish that the adults in this family (charged) would accept *some* responsibility for not getting help for Evanna sooner, be willing to learn from what went wrong, and commit to working with authorities to get their collective children back into the family. Sadly, (IMO), from reading their voluminous postings online, I don't think this is possible.
