No injuries or deaths reported as Bronx high-rise building partially collapses with a ‘loud boom’

An explosion at a New York City apartment building blew off a floor-to-roof chunk of the high-rise – terrifying local residents in the Bronx.

It was not immediately clear what caused the explosion and partial collapse of the building on Alexander Avenue.

A ventilation shaft connected to the boiler collapsed, the commissioner of the Fire Department of New York said. “We believe that’s where the explosion occurred,” but that’s for investigators to determine, Commissioner Robert Tucker said.

Horror as entire corner of NYC apartment block COLLAPSES after gas explosion

An entire corner of a New York City apartment building collapsed after a reported gas explosion inside the apartment block.

According to the New York City Fire Department, the blast caused the incinerator shaft to collapse at 205 Alexander Ave in the Bronx borough of the city.

The explosion happened shortly after 8AM on Wednesday morning at the Mitchel Houses building, a high-rise that makes up an 11-building complex in the area.

Fire officials confirmed that nobody was injured, with images showing a corner of the 20-story building having completely fallen from the structure.
