I wonder if it was really even a real marriage, or just for immigration purposes. Probably marriage fraud. That is the next thing that should be investigated.

I'm sorry to have missed the trial so far because I've been following a really interesting Aussie case.

I'm hugely grateful for all the tweets and posts. Thank you everyone.

The prosecution's case isn't what I expected at all, and I really hate to say this but overall I'm disappointed how this is panning out so far. I want to see Madam Maxwell locked up for a long time but I can't see her facing 80 years or anything like that.

These sick perpetrators are much worse than what we see/hear in court, and if they're wealthy, they never seem to get the sentences they deserve. It's understandable why more girls don't testify. For the most part, this type of victims try and move on with their lives when they finally escape the clutches of these predators and don't want to resurrect an ugly past. Many of them blame themselves for not having left at the first opportunity and if they do come to this realisation, some resort to suicide many, many years later.

I salute the girls who are brave enough testify, the same as I do for rape victims.

Let's hope that a meaningful sentence is handed down, but no matter what it is, I'm sure I'll be disappointed.

Dear Judge Nathan:
The Government respectfully submits this letter seeking an order directing the defense to provide the Government with the witnesses it anticipates calling next week by 10:00 a.m. tomorrow, December 13, 2021.1
The Government previewed for several days prior to the close of the Government’s case that it would rest sometime last week. Following the close of the Government’s case, the Government requested that the defense provide the Government with Rule 26.2 material, along with “a list of witnesses, and an order of the first witnesses.” Tr. 2276. The Court ordered the defense to do so, stating, “Yes. You’ll do that.”

Friday evening, the defense sent the Government a letter, attached as Exhibit A.2 The letter identifies thirty-five defense witnesses in alphabetical order, with no information about the order in which the witnesses would be called. The Government conferred with the defense about witness order yesterday and was informed that more information would be forthcoming. The Government has not received further information…

Dear Judge Nathan:
I write to inform the Court that the defense has provided the government with the tentative order
of the first several defense witnesses. We have informed the government that we are still trying to make travel arrangements for defense witnesses, many of whom are coming from locations out of the district and abroad, and we have not been able to reach counsel for some of the witnesses over the weekend. We further informed the government that the order of witnesses is subject to change, and we will advise the government if we think the order will change as travel plans solidify. We also informed the government that three of the defense witnesses have requested to testify under their first names or under a pseudonym. The government opposes this request. The Court’s ruling on this issue may impact the willingness of these witnesses to testify, thereby compromising Ms. Maxwell’s right to present her defense, and may affect the witness order.

No news blips from the trial today?

I did a quick google search and didn't see anything from today that was new. Even gave Twitter a go, I am hopeless with Twitter. Apparently a large account following the trial has been suspended and there is much conspiracy swirling about it?

I believe trial resumes on Thursday when the Defense will begin presenting its case.

Hi @MrsWatson, don't know about a conspiracy but will check it out. Court is in recess until Thursday. BTW, I just saw Ari Melber on MSNBC reporting on testimony from last week's proceedings.

Just curious as to why the defense doesn't start presenting their case until next Thurs? It seems rather inconsiderate of the jury who have put their lives on hold to serve on this jury.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week are not happening because the judge is not available. I have had it on my calendar for weeks that these days would be off

It seems there is some broohaha over the witness list (See @sds71 post #524 above). To me it sounds like typical Prosecution/Defense quibbling. I could be wrong.

Ghislaine Maxwell's lawyers plan to call a stunning 35 witnesses in her defence (that's 11 more those called by prosecution). They say some coming from "abroad" and three want anonymity. There had been speculation it would be over by Christmas. Looking doubtful now

Thank you! I missed that the defense doesn't start til Thursday.

Also, 35 witnesses!? Holy cats. I can't begin to imagine where they plan on going with that.

It would interrupt his busy days of horseback riding and hiding out, imo.

Maybe they just realized GM gave them one of her orgy lists so now they have to start over.

....and list is alphabetized, as would be expected from perfectionist GM

Since when can defense witnesses get away with "anonymity"? If they are witnesses, they will be sworn in, and part of the official court record. I don't see how they can be anonymous...(?).

Especially as the prosecution needs to know who they are, for discovery.

It almost seems like the witnesses will be more likely "character witnesses", "Ghislaine is so nice, she couldn't possibly be a groomer.". Or will they impinge testimony of the victims? "They all wanted to be groomed as child sex slaves.".

The names are fully disclosed to the prosecution. The defense are just asking that their full or real names not be disclosed publicly.

Much of this seems to me to be much ado about nothing. The US Attorneys are demanding that the Defense provide them with the order in which the Defense witnesses will be called. I don't know why that is a big thing. Judges sometimes in Pretrial Conference or right at trial will ask what order witnesses will be called but I have never been required to do so. The order in which witnesses are called often fluctuates due to their availability. A court can't require a party to call witnesses in a certain order.

You are much more organized than I am! No calendar here. :)
