Maxwell sentencing set for June, as U.S. judge weighs request for new trial

The judge in British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell's sex abuse trial on Friday set a sentencing date of June 28 but said she is still weighing Maxwell's request to overturn her conviction because of concerns about a juror's conduct.

Maxwell's lawyers said last week they would request a new trial.

Maxwell would not be guaranteed a new trial even if the juror indicated on the form that he had not been sexually abused, legal experts told Reuters last week.

Instances in which judges overturned verdicts for juror dishonesty tended to involve jurors who deliberately lied to get on the panel, the experts said.

Maxwell's attorneys have until Jan. 19 to submit a formal motion for a new trial, and prosecutors will then have until Feb. 2 to respond. Prosecutors have requested that Nathan conduct an inquiry into the juror's actions.

5 months away, that's a long time. A lot can happen between now and then.

And that's 5 more months in that very miserable prison cell

That makes me sort of happy to think about

Remember that old curse? - "May you live in interesting times." One way or another, we are doing that right now!

But then, aren't we lucky to live now and not in the 1940ies trying to survive WW2?
Or other terrible periods?

Yes indeed, the poor Queen, and after she has spent her entire long life doing right. As for Sarah Ferguson, IIRC she once described Andrew as the "noblest of men, in fact if anything too noble." Sounds to me like she's hoping to walk him down the aisle again.

His Mother only cut him loose because he ran out of rope, she has let him hide behind his status for all this time thinking he wouldn't be held accountable because of who he is. My sympathies are not with her on this one,it's not like she has been blindsided by it. MOO

I'm surprised.
By all accounts she has had no desire to give people up.
Nary a one. Until now.
To me, this is big.
I agree . She's now thinking it's every man for himself.
MOO.
If GM has some trump cards up her sleeve, this is the time to play them

Well, IMO, Sarah does like the royal life. She is on film saying that her family are more aristocratic than the Royal Family.

Did someone say "Trump"?:D
Yup. That was me. :D
Just thinking....As of today, GM is leaving a shameful legacy. She could speak up, tell the truth, cooperate with the State, name Names and make things right. What has she got to loose?

Hoping the jail she will be housed in for the next 5 months has adequate staffing who are well rested, and cameras that work. Maybe someone should do a QA check on the cameras every week with documentation. Just saying..
And no letting them nap and surf the internet when they should be checking the inmates under their charge….

“Trying to live a private life” That’s a great excuse to avoid court:rolleyes:
Plus John Doe 17 is afraid that he could be "annoyed" - oh no! not that!

Her "good name"?

Ghislaine Maxwell ends fight to keep eight 'John Does' secret - CNN

"[G]eneralized aversion to embarrassment and negativity that may come from being associated with Epstein and Maxwell is not enough to warrant continued sealing of information. This is especially true with respect to this case of great public interest, involving serious allegations of the sex trafficking of minors," Guiffre attorney Sigrid McCawley wrote. "Now that Maxwell's criminal trial has come and gone, there is little reason to retain protection over the vast swaths of information about Epstein and Maxwell's sex-trafficking operation that were originally filed under seal in this case."

"After careful review of the detailed objections submitted by Non-Party Does 17, 53, 54, 55, 73, 93 and 151, counsel for Ghislaine Maxwell writes to inform the Court that she does not wish to further address those objections," Maxwell attorney Laura Menninger wrote. "Each of the listed Does has counsel who have ably asserted their own respective privacy rights. Ms. Maxwell therefore leaves it to this Court to conduct the appropriate review.”

BBM. This statement seems to be saying that GM is not going to be paying her own attorneys to fight for the privacy of the John Does anymore. The John Does have their own attorneys who can do that for them, so let them pay their own counsel to battle their objections further. Much has been laid bare for GM, whilst the John Does get to maintain their complete anonymity. There’s something wrong with that picture. IMO.

He is her son. The police looked at the case multiple times and didnt press charges. She loves him and wants to believe he is innocent any mother would especially when he hasnt even been charged with anything in a court of law. What was she meant to do? Kick him out of his family home? the woman is what 95? was dealing with a ill husband who has now died, other family issues and also she seems to have health issues now too. My sympathies are 100% with her.

There are 2 roles:
1. A Queen
2. A mother

As a mother she can love her son as much as she wants.
As a Queen she must protect the RF/ Nation against ruining scandals.
MOO

Fair enough. We are all entitled to our opinion and I respect yours.
