GM’s April 23 court date has been delayed by a week. A document filed by her lawyers states that this is to enable her 'family members to adjust their schedules and make travel arrangements to attend the court proceedings'. Her family are planning to be at her arraignment meaning that she could see her husband in person from across the courtroom.

Little has been seen of her husband since her arrest and he has stepped down from his tech company CargoMetrics to avoid being a 'distraction'. It is unclear if he has visited her in the grim MDC where she is being held.

Ghislaine's family are planning to be at her arraignment later this month will her husband be there | Daily Mail Online

From the prosecution letter ^^^ that responded to GM's complaint about jail conditions, strip searches are mandatory after every visit (except for attorneys). It also states GM has never had a strip search (except, I imagine, at check in).

Letter HERE pp. 3-4

Like any other inmate, the defendant is patted down by MDC staff whenever she is moved to a different part of the facility. Typically, these searches include at least two pat-down searches of the defendant per day: once when she is moved from her isolation cell to the day room each morning, and once when returns from the day room to her isolation cell each night. In addition, when the defendant elects to attend outdoor recreation, she is searched two additional times: once when she is moved to the recreation area, and once when she returns to the day room from the recreation area. MDC staff also conduct a body scan, which is a non-invasive machine scan, on the defendant once per week to check for any secreted contraband. Because those scans take place in a different part of the facility than the day room, the defendant is patted down two additional times when these weekly scans occur: once when she is moved to the scan area, and once when

she returns to the day room from the scan area. As part of every pat-down search, the defendant is required to remove her mask and open her mouth briefly so that MDC staff, who remain masked during the searches, can confirm she has not hidden contraband in her mouth.2 These pat-down and mouth searches are consistent with MDC’s policy that all inmates be searched whenever they move to a different location within the jail facility. In the absence of in-person visitation, the defendant has not been strip searched. If the defendant receives in-person visits, then she, like all other inmates, will be strip searched after any in-person visit.

Ghislaine Maxwell's first appearance in a Manhattan courtroom is over, nine minutes after it starte
She pleaded not guilty to the new indictment filed by prosecutors last month, and her lawyers and government lawyers went back and forth on the timeline for prosecutors to turn over material to Maxwell's team ahead of trial

No resolution on whether Maxwell's trial will be in July or pushed back later, as her team has asked, but Judge Alison Nathan said she would resolve the question soon

Trial is still scheduled for July 12. The judge didn't rule on Maxwell's request to postpone it but she effectively signaled: Don't count on that.

Her lawyers maintain they need months of additional preparation because of the new charges, making it impossible to keep a July 12 trial date. Prosecutors have said the new charges should not require substantial additional work because they add a single victim to the three victims already described in the indictment.

The judge didn’t make an immediate decision on a possible new date for the trial, but told lawyers she wants to avoid a long delay.

Ghislaine Maxwell pleads not guilty to new sex trafficking charges - CNN

CNN goes straight to how GM looked in the courtroom, 'cos inquiring minds want to know this the most:

Maxwell entered the New York courtroom in a dark blue prison outfit with her ankles shackled and her hair, now slightly grayed at the roots, hanging just below her shoulders. She wore a mask, except when she drank water from a plastic bottle.

I'm enjoying the "shackled" bit. It took this long for GM's hair to go "slightly grayed at the roots"? Mine would have looked like that in a month. I suppose she is arguing that her hair is getting wrecked in jail, but still....

The defense evidently pleaded for separate trials and won, and the prosecution's comeback is "Okay, in that case, there's no reason to delay trial, since now there's a lot less evidence to comb through." Gotta love it.

Here's Maureen Comey's brief

But just think of how much she's saving on hair dye and hairdressers! She will soon need every cent she can find if she wants to buy any treats from the prison shop.

This might be totally trivial, but has she ever let her hair grow past short since her father died?

Madam Maxwell appeared frail with graying hair after months behind bars when she pleaded not guilty today in her first in-person hearing since her arrest last year.

The judge presiding said she is considering the defense's request to move the trial to the fall or winter. Judge Nathan said that while she was still deciding if the case should be put back from its July start date to next January, 'everyone should assume' it is going ahead this summer for the time being.

According to the new indictment, the woman was sexually abused multiple times by JE between 2001 and 2004 at his Palm Beach residence, beginning when she was 14 years old. GM is accused of enticing girls as young as 14 for JE to abuse and in some cases taking part in the abuse.

Her lawyer declined to comment when asked why her husband, Scott Borgerson, was not in court to support her. Her sister turned up but may as well have been wearing a niqab. There's a brief video of her in the link together with a few sketches of GM.

Bill Cosby, too. He had the blind schtick going.
And then there's Elizabeth Holmes with the hackneyed " I've got a baby bump and will be very pregnant and can't manage a trial. Besides, judge, the way you have it scheduled is the exact day I'm due."

Tackling Maxwell's claim that her conditions prevent her from preparing for trial, AUSA says that she has 91 hours a week to review discovery.

Maxwell's lawyer David Markus is back up, pushing back at the government's description of her treatment as "routine." "She's being treated differently than any other inmates ever in that institution." The BOP has never said that she's suicidal, Markus argues.

One of the judges describes Maxwell's "significant ties to foreign countries" and "significant financial resources," in pointing out Judge Nathan's findings that she's a risk of flight.

Arguments finally concluding, the court reserves decision.
