talking about houhas, when I first joined one group , someone asked had anyone seen anything different with April that night? Me, being the old lady I am replied' Well her hoochie looks different, you can see a split" I thought for a while of what I had posted and kept thinking that doesnt sound right, I had never heard it called a hoohah but didnt really know what term to use, and that was the only word I could think of at the time ;) I tried to go back and change it but it got lost in the fast moving posts, so, I'm sure the younger ones had quite a laugh about me calling it a hoochie. Oh well. I'd like to say too that I humbled myself and revealed that I was using a magnifying glass to get a better look at that part. I cant stand that word hooha, I dont know why. Needless to say I think I had people going to Walmart in the middle of the night for magnifying glasses . Truth is I'm getting a little burned out with the April saga even though I went out and bought a stuffed giraffe :)

I wonder if Oliver wakes up in the morning thinking "wait no baby yet :gaah:" like I do?!

I think she's ready...she is holding her tail up and looking uncomfortable. I hope I'm right and not a false alarm.

Love from Aus.

She's settled down again.
Maybe just a poop?

Arghhh the suspense is killing.

Yes! I am glad I am not the only one who thinks this! Maybe it is the streamlining others have talked about?

Is that ok tho??

It seems like it is going the opposite direction!

April, you do not give birth through your esophagus --it's the other end my dear!

The young males that are old enough to care for themselves from what are referred to as bachelor herds. They will play with each other, interacting to try to find out who is the strongest and thus the most dominant in the group. They often engage in battles called necking. They are over within a couple of minutes and no one is seriously injured. However, it is similar to humans having an arm wrestling contest to see who is the stronger party.

In captivity both males and females are kept in the same areas. However, you will notice that they keep their distance for the most part. While they are tolerant of each other they will keep to their own elements as they would in the wild. It has been noted both in the wild and in captivity that the loose social structure of the giraffe allows it to change and to adapt as it needs to.

It seems that the giraffe has one of the least structured types of socialization of all animals. While they females especially do bond, they don’t seem to form the deep feelings and emotions of some animals that spend many years together, like elephants. They are often considered to be not highly intelligent either because they don’t do much socially and they don’t have complex things about they. Yet their level of intelligence hasn’t been fully evaluated yet and they could surprise us.

Have to admit that I open this thread with mild trepidation. We've been waiting, watching, wishing, hoping for what seems like an eternity for April to deliver that calf. I can't help worrying that something is wrong - but I hope I'm wrong about that :D

I WAS planning on being productive today - thanx a lot guys!

I found a giraffe production of "A Chorus Line"

The necking fascinates me. It look like they are playing. But experts say it is fighting. There were some clips on you tube of fighting but I am not watching that, but it seems like playing
