Maybe Oliver is picking up on her impending labor (allegedly [emoji23]) and confusing it for heat?
Disclaimer - I know next to nothing about giraffes other than what I read upthread. Maybe I need to google!

When you say picking was it clear to you guys that it was aggressive?

Did April look scared?

What exactly was he doing? I have seen them do the neck stuff - it looked they were having fun. Was this different?

How long did it go on?

Did staff come in quick

Exactly how do you "break up" giraffes?

Is it possible that they were frockling cause they are bored out of girafee eeee marbles?

What I do not get is it is my assumption that they were together before getting pregnant so it seems (until I heard about this) they are fine together??

Oliver was more aggressive than I had ever seen him, but not to the point I thought April was going to get hurt. He was head butting her belly and her neck and then "flinging" his neck onto her (I have seem him do the neck flinging but not to this magnitude). April did not seem scared and it really did not last long.

I think Oliver has spring fever and is just wanting to get his game on.

ETA: Forgot about the staff. Allysa was already in Oliver's stall opening his door, so she opened the adjoining stall relatively quickly and Oliver simply walked out.

Totally off topic !

The Week magazine is awesome! Therefore --scientists have found since 1990's Americans are having significantly less sex.

The first thought that went through my mind was " yeh, they probably can't find their partner, cause they are probably blind after staring at their cell phones all day!!"

Also funny ! above when I typed "mind" it came out "minds"

I pondered if I should delete the "s"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hate to be an alarmist but is anyone else concerned? I read she could have been impregnated on one of three occasions. Using the last chance does anyone know when her expected due date is?

ETA- I'm convinced I would still be PG with my 24 yo if labor had not been induced. Obviously kidding (kind of) [emoji23]

It also seems to me that if they know they mated on XX, and the cycle is 17 days, and they are claiming she is pregnant (!) - if they add 17 days and then maybe another 17 we could all be close.

But as far as I know they have not released the date of the first encounter, that would be + 17 maybe and then if that passes next 17

something.

IMO they should tell us the date of the first time they made love HA!

Maybe there should be no food in either cage when the doors are open?

just mo but light and dark affect every creature on earth. I have thought this before, I wonder if keeping light on 24/7 is confusing her body.

If you look at it at nighttime they darken Ollie room. And hey in the wild there is day and night.

Like some other angles, this angers me- I think the world would understand that there is no daX live stream between x and x -- just a little one so THEY could monitor her .

I truly do not believe they have left her light on 24/7 until You Tube. If so, why do they lights out Ollie every night??

Well, I have news for April. She is not allowed to have this baby tomorrow and I expect her to listen because I am in this too deep to miss it now!!! We have an honors enrollment/dinner for my baby (okay, he is 18 but the youngest so, my baby) and I have to get my brain rot covered before hand, so I am going to miss a lot. So pass the word on to her!

I am beginning to think AAP forgot what year April and Oliver connected and April got pregnant! We could be here awhile waiting for a baby Giraffe!

  • #251
I don't think Oliver is willing to wait another month to get his "sexy" on.

I saw April hitting him back, maybe not as hard though.

You go girl - don't you be putting up with any of that nonsense , and if you have to you call the giraffe abuse hotline, and report him, and just get yourself a tall giraffe restraining order.

If its not to violent, if anyone knows a way to link the episode I would love to see what they did - but if it is really intense I am ok not to!

That is an amazing observation- it was like oh wow 15 months , I have trouble with 15 days! Could be very valid - then as it progressed and this You Tube idea came up, they asked that vet for an guesstimate and here we are!!!!!!!!!!!! ha !

Once I learned they can giraffe sonograms - another zoo (if he paid for everything) would probably loan them theirs for one day - these giraffe lovers .

Mr JOrdon

If something bad happens here your gonna be living in Dreamworld rollar coaster disaster - dude at least for a while

Maybe he'd like to offer his prostaglandin to get labor going... Lol

Here is the video queued up to the time that others were talking about before just now.

ETA: Hmmm, didn't work.... brb lemme try that again!

ETA #2: Hmmm, with other youtube videos you can "share" on a certain timeframe.

With this one I cannot seem to do it when I try to get a link to share... don't need to I guess, as if you go back to when this video loop STARTS... and rewind yourself... it is at that time of the start. (see screen shot.. is at very beginning of new video for livestream)

I am  why the video won't do a specific time like other youtubes. Perhaps because it is live?

:bump:

Bumping for Carris who wants to see what we were talking about earlier this afternoon.... rewind to the VERY beginning of this live feed to see.

I confirmed and just put the red dot on the very beginning of the live feed, and it is indeed exactly when we were discussing it.

HTH

congrats to your "baby"--none of us will tell him you called him a baby! Your secret is safe!

OT

And honestly, I do not think WS is brain rot! But I do have nightmares (!) about if my father asked what I am doing with my time!

Mood dependent - the real answer should be we are not staring at pictures of french toast someone had so pls give me break.

If we did a street survey I vote 38% of folks under 25 would not know who is VP of their country.

But it would come back to me from him , your spending your time on a website that is about murder-- but what I don't get is I have always been in interested in true crime. They know this.

And lets get real, in those days (there things called a bookstore!) the true crime section was a heck of lot bigger than the politics section!!

I have always been fascinated with aviation disaster investigations.

They knew that -- I got manila envelopes from the National Transportation Safety Board. To this day I have no idea how I got their address and knew they would mail me their reports for free (that is how the govt is supposed to work IMO)

I drove over to the Challenger hearings.

Will never forget. My father is very emotionally controlled. For my birthday I asked him if he would fly me out to Dallas for the Delta 191 hearings.

I thought it was a fine request - there is money. Oh my god I was blown away - he thought it was the stupidest bday gift request ever.

Hey it is an interest- he always carried on about how important having interests are .... well

Meanwhile, when he is with his grandkids they have their laptops or their I phones or whatever in their face taking selfies of themselves - if you forget what you look like get a mirror! If your friends can't remember what you look like find new friends !!

Would any of you bring a book to the dinner table?? It's rude. It's just bad manners.

IMO its the same thing as being over someone's house 25 years ago, none of us would get on a 35 minute phone conversation with a guest there!

Do not know how I got here- that's ok. I like sharing!!!

I think it's actually a career thing!

The brain rot I was referring to is actually my grey roots, my husband is just hilarious and calls it brain rot.

I think you have an amazing mind and hold interests that are above what my mind can comprehend, but definitely catch my attention when you post about them! I also think that sounds like a great birthday present!!! Dad's are a mess sometimes and just cannot seem to understand not everyone is like them. I have watched my husband expand his thinking while our children have grown up and am actually amazed at times how much he changed since we first met 31 years ago.
