My son is almost 5. If he were out of bed at that time of night, he would be falling asleep standing up! Especially considering that Mom came over at 6 am so it seems likely that Isabella woke up early regularly. I will keep my thoughts to myself except to say that this story doesn't yet make sense!

Grandma knew this 16 yr. old guy was with her grandbaby at midnight? How?

Yes, it sounds like the second teen was the tip to find her. What could possibly cause a 16 year old to do this to another child??? I just don't understand :(

I'm just guessing....but I assume bc the mom worked at a bar she might drop her daughter off later in the night. When I worked graveyard and my daughter was 4, I had to drop her off at my moms house sometimes around 10.

it sounded like from the presser that she knew he was at the home. She went to bed at 10:30. Maybe he was "babysitting" for her. Not sure. He was the one who had the last seen time.

LE gave time range of the crime as 10:30-6am so that means that they feel something could have happened right after Grandma went to bed

:moo:

For clarity, it was her great-grandmother's home.

Did they say in the presser what the charges will be for each of the teens? Is it murder, manslaughter, accessory, etc?

Just curious as to whether there was a confession from both or one turned in the other, or if there was damning evidence found with Bella's poor little body. :(

he said he thought the charges would be murder in the second degree but he had also just come back from meeting with the DA and they were still asking LE questions. It was not really clarified what charge for who but he did say the teen that came in at ten am to give info on the body location was involved after the fact.

he also said that they thought they knew what the COD was but had to await autopsy results and there was visible trauma to the body (but no weapons). I am sure whatever they find from the autopsy and the investigation as it unfolds can also effect and affect any changes in the charges. LE also said they were processing the home. I think what they are finally charged with could take time imhoo.:moo:

Though no one has been charged in the crime, family members tell News 4 the teenager being questioned by police confessed. Family members say he admitted killing Bella in the house, and then enlisting the help of a second teen who helped move the body. They add his confession was prompted after realizing the second teen, who is also 16-years-old, had helped police locate the girl's body.

At a news conference Monday, police would only say the neighbor is cooperating with police. They also said they are questioning the second teen.

News 4 is expecting to learn in the next few hours what charges the suspects will face.

Please nobody throw rocks because I am by no means defending this 16 y/o BUT..
Maybe it was some sort of tragic accident and the boy freaked out and felt like he had to hide her body. It is so very tragic no matter what but I'm just throwing out that possibility. ???

here is the NY def. of murder in the second degree (which was alluded to in the presser)

Under our law, a person is guilty of Murder in the Second Degree when, under circumstances evincing a depraved indifference to human life, he or she recklessly engages in conduct which creates a grave risk of death to another person, and thereby causes the death of that person [or of a third person].3

I looked this up because I had the same thoughts simp.. hopefully we will know more soon

another snip:

engages in conduct which creates a grave and unjustifiable risk that another person's death will occur,
and when he or she is aware of and consciously disregards that risk,
and when that grave and unjustifiable risk is of such nature and degree that disregard of it constitutes a gross deviation from the standard of conduct that a reasonable person would observe in the situation.5
Reckless conduct that results in death, however, is not enough to constitute this crime.

Thank you SOOOO much, Nurse, for the additional info. I am on mobile so the links to news articles don't always open properly for me.

You rock!

Idk. . .LE said signs of trauma but no weapon used. That made me think he probably strangled her. :(

Coming into this late. Did the teen live at the house?

I think the great grandma was famous for helping out troubled kids :( ---this is so heartbreaking.
