"Desperate to get away from her husband’s abuse, Staten Island teacher Jeanine Cammarata set him up with the mother of one of her students.
Jeanine actually set up Mike and Ayisha because she wanted Mike to be occupied and leave her alone,” said Jessica Pobega, a lifelong close friend of Jeanine’s. “She (Cammarata) actually introduced them in the hopes that Mike would stop stalking her.”
Once Egea moved into the couple’s home, “Jeanine wanted to leave,” Pobega said.
“She was trying to get rid of Mike,” Perez added. “She thought if he kept busy with her (Egea), he wouldn’t be stalking her. But he continued stalking her.”
Once Jeanine Cammarata moved out, her estranged husband and his new girlfriend moved into the girlfriend’s home in Far Rockaway, Queens, bringing the Cammarata’s two children to live with them and Egea’s six kids.
“(Jeanine) was paying his rent (in Queens), her rent, and paying for three cars,” Perez said. “He ruined her credit.”
Weeks before her death, Cammarata updated her will to make sure her children would be well-cared for, her landlord said.
“She knew something was up,” he said. “She wanted her sister to keep the kids and she wanted to make sure her kids got everything.”
Cammarata disappeared March 30, following a planned meeting with her husband two days before they were were due in divorce court.
