I asked around a little about a Dutch passport. Got back some very reasoned responses, I think.

GR left the Netherlands age 12, with a Dutch passport. He was too old to have travelled on his parents' passport then. That would have had to be renewed three times (probably with a visit to the Dutch embassy, NY) by now.

Why bother, being a US citizen now?

Because doing so would mean that here we have someone with the right to travel freely throughout the US and Canada without a visa, AS WELL AS throughout Europe, and Caribbean Islands linked to the Netherlands, without having to apply for a visa. He could just hop on a plane or boat and go. And probably his children could get that freedom too.

Having a Dutch passport would also probably mean he could get entitlement to the reciprocal arrangements re medical care etc when in Europe, and could also legally work. It would also mean he could do business as both a European and an American - I can see that having some benefits. Social security/free/greatly reduced medical/unemployment payments are all available in Europe to EU passport holders.

Why would anyone want to give all that up for the sake of not visiting the NY embassy and filling out a form a few times?

The only downside I can see is maybe having to pay taxes to both countries -- I've been socked with that myself. Hmmm....that would show up on his IRS reports (if he's paying taxes to the Netherlands as well as US -- you get to claim as a deduction).

Depending on the companies policies, some may require you to login and out only once, when you start for the day, and then you finish work for that day; others require logging in and out for breaks and lunch. Many companies have the capability to "look in" on an employee's work session to "see" (via keystrokes or other indicators) what they are doing that very minute, however, this is very seldom utilized, (as it would not be cost effective to be monitoring every employee that closely and if you do have to monitor them that closely, why are they working remotely and not in the office or for the company at all).

The only time "real time" monitoring would be utilized in my experience anyway, would be immediately prior to some sort of disciplinary action (pertaining to suspicion of abuse of the system, etc.) Some companies generate reports the following day or weekly to keep track of a persons production while working remotely (tracking keystrokes, items processed, etc), but again, rarely is anything utilized "live" - all that is "seen" is that you are logged into the system, not your physical location.

As such, time can easily be manipulated to suit ones personal agenda. I personally know of people who have logged into VPN at work and then immediately left to take their kids to the doctors, dogs to their vets, who take 2 hour long lunches, who go shopping, etc. I've known people who made an ungodly amount of money by watching TV in one room, and once every half hour or hour getting up and taking 5 minutes to "work" by adjudicating a single insurance claim, and then returning to watch TV (this, in the instance of VPN with a time-out feature).

I've known of people who've painted the entire interior of their homes and "worked" at the same time, cooked dinner, cleaned house, weeded their gardens,........ And all of the above was with desk-top or lap-top VPN access only - with VPN access via phone? The possibilities for manipulation are endless! If there is a VPN inactivity "time out" feature, a simple flip of a screen would keep one connected...

Could one manipulate the system day in and day out and not get caught? I guess it's possible - depends on your job (see below) - however - during a 24 - 48 hour period - easily - it may never be noticed - and if he was questioned about a "lack of production" on those dates, he could claim he was worried about his wife.....

IMO VPN and/or WebEx as an alibi, doesn't hold water - nothing solid about it - more like a sieve, if you ask me?

(BTW - I'm *not stating that everyone with VPN access does the above or that I have done this myself, I have not (have been tempted!) - I know that there are wonderful people who work better at home w/VPN than they do in office (myself included) - however, I assisted in founding the "work-at-home remote" program for each of these companies and when production numbers indicated we might have a problem w/a few folks seriously abusing the privledge (for weeks on end), I was asked to do footwork and investigate (because I do that too) hence the examples above.)

Sorry, didn't mean for this to be so long....

Just had to bump this comment #8 of thread #1 made by Londonrraine. It speaks volumes, imo.

My concerns got greater as I looked around FB. If I break any rules here, please correct me MODS. Thank you. (Maybe we can make the FB Rules clear?)
It concerns me that the family/friends appear to be not spreading any word, or answering my messages to them. I messaged a friend of Jennifers (or maybe its a relative), as I noticed this friend added a photo of she and Jennifer, this past Friday, Dec.14. Under this photo, Jennifer's husband says, "thank you!".
I messaged this friend, Eileen S., and I offered to help and asked if they have heard from Jennifer. That was yesterday. Still... I've received no answer and see no updates at all. What do you do when the family seems to be disconnected, as it appears?
There's a woman missing here, and the way they reportedly found her phone, this doesn't look good. Where's the concern?

I saw the photos of some sort of memorial with the beautiful Justice for Jennifer signs on the J4J site? Is that Center Road? Could the nice person who posted it over there post it here? Or could I have permission to copy and post it here?

I'm not good at transferring pictures to here Abigail but you sure can bring those pictures over here!!! It was someone I really know well :) that posted them there and I know she won't mind!! It was taken yesterday when we all went up there like upstate said. I know it was surely a emotional day for everyone and kinda scary at the same time. We will never give up on Jenn and will always keep our eyes open!

Interesting day with GR's attorneys following us up to Center rd while we worked on Jen's memorial - The look on our hillbilly faces when their Mercedes-Benz pulled up -- Priceless!!

Bear and I had the news crews rolling on the floor - Bear and Porter comparing shoes, she almost went home with his sneakers! No joke! I love these ladies and having Jillian' s hand to grab when the judge made his decision meant the world.

We make a good team, if I don't say so myself

<3 J4J

The wet look was priceless as well! And my daughter holding the umbrella so someone wouldn't get wet!! She said on the way home we got soaked he could of to, considering the time we were there :blushing: Oh well a good day though. Had mind wondering for awhile last nite as well! Hopefully the signs that are put up stay up to!!

I think GRs deleting of posts on Jenn's fb also could be considered obstruction of justice.

Nanasbabe -- are the flowers down there on the lower right corner where her body was found?

Also...noting the foliage on road side...wondering if the greenery caught in the van wheel would be a match to any of those plants?

It's a lovely spot, with the new leaves reminding of hope.

I can't imagine how hard this must be for you...as a friend of both Jennifer and GR. I must say that I commend your willingness to look at this objectively. And to want justice for Jennifer. Even when it means imagining the unimaginable being done by someone you care about.

It is very difficult...it makes me both sad and angry but as hard as it is if he is responsible then he should pay retribution for it.

Lounging in a hot tub at the Y with mistress after JR is missing? This guy was flaunting himself all over town. Did he really think it would go unnoticed? Great article, the truth begins to come out... Thanks to Joe M!

I completely forgot that Americans get taxed on their worldwide income - I think you are the only country in the world that does that.

Giving away her things, out with the woman he had an affair with, it sure looks like he thought he had gotten away with murder. So nauseating.

Didn't Great Britain used to do that too? Isn't that why the Stones and other rockers used to reside in France?

I am not certain, but that would have been before we joined the EU, anyway. I think when the Stones left was one of those times when the government raised the higher tax brackets, and probably when a lot of strikes were going on too. When that happens there are always a bunch of wealthy people storming off in a huff. They usually come back though. No idea why. English people moan a lot and the weather's hopeless.

Now, all EU member countries have a 'reciprocal' tax agreement. So if you have links to two EU countries, you can normally pick the best one to pay your taxes in, and in the other you don't pay. *But US citizens living in Europe have to pay taxes to both the US and the country where they are living, I believe.

I'm confusing myself here now. It wouldn't seem worth a US citizen ever getting a job in Europe, if that's the case. But there are loads of you here. I'm going to look it up. Wish me luck. Tax websites aren't nice.
