Not new information, but a few details to facts we already know:

* Joan's son Joseph Garcia is held on $100,000 bond
* Garcia's lawyer said Garcia has said nothing about the murder
* Garcia is currently charged with unauthorized use of vehicle and with possession of stolen property (Joan's credit card was in his pocket when he was arrested)
* Car found with bloody palm print on cloth ceiling
* Garcia is on video parking his mom's car and walking away
* Garcia is on video using his mom's credit card

Autopsy will determine COD.

Also, he would have to cross a bridge to get from the Bronx to Manhattan, and I'm assuming those bridges have cameras.

Book 'em!

As a mother of 2 boys...a son killing his mom is very concerning.

Whether he did it or not, I'm just glad LE has been on top of things. It looks as though they won't have any trouble putting the right person behind bars quickly, which is nice when so many cases drag on forever before someone pays for the crime.

Yes, he has denied any wrong doing in the article above. Innocent until proven guilty. Thanks for the reminder.

Why would he drive a blood spattered car around if he did nothing wrong?

Exactly. I am guessing they are also investigating whether he acted alone or not???

IDK!

Oh I agree, a car with his mom's blood. ...but he hasn't admitted to it and innocent until proven guilty which imho he will be proven!

Was it ever said who had an appointment that day(I believe the wording was appointment)? Did he accompany his mom or she him?

Is he going to try and claim self defense or mental health? I guess we may know more after today.

Finally! Charges of second-degree murder were filed against the son.

I can't read the whole article because of a paywall, but the first paragraph will do for now: http://bronx.news12.com/news/charge...an-viau-found-dead-with-throat-cut-1.13040875

I'm sure other news outlets will be picking up the new development soon.

<snip> Joseph Garcia, 31, began spouting gibberish after he was charged inside a Bronx courtroom with second-degree murder in his mother’s brutal death.

“I wouldn’t know,” Garcia told the Daily News when asked what happened to Joan Viau. “There’s no suggestions. I do not want to disclose certain realities, to not ruin certain unconscious beings, and that’s all.”

The handcuffed murder suspect asked a television reporter to contact his surviving family for bail money, and suggested he wanted new legal counsel.

Whoa.

"An unhinged Brooklyn man, in court for a hearing on lesser charges, bizarrely proclaimed his innocence Tuesday after his surprise arrest for the throat-slash murder of his mom."

Poor Joan. She had troubles with him before her last day, I'm sure. jmo

A half-dozen court officers led an uncomf

ortable-looking Garcia, wearing a brown prison suit and a mop of untamed hair, into the courtroom Tuesday afternoon.

ETA it seems like appointment that day was Joan's.
