Annnnd we're back.
Here's a bit of pool footage (no audio) from opening statements on Monday. I'm working on a video (which takes time, and I've had very little to spare the last few days) but I thought I would share a work in progress so you can better visualize the courtroom.

Apologies for fuzzy footage. Internet is subpar in court, so I had to export video at a lower quality to upload it. Still felt it was worth sharing, though.
You'll see ADA Christine Callanan (right), defendant Tim Dean (far left, has a beard) and his attny Damelio next to him.

More on that later.
Up now: witness Richard Hoepfl, who works with the Monroe County Crime Laboratory. Expertise in weapons collected as evidence.

Also, one juror was dismissed. Judge Barrett informs the jury that the juror was dismissed and that they should act as if it never happened and not speculate as to why.

Back to Hoepfl: We're taking about the 13 cartridge casings found at the crime scene. He's explaining how they determine if they were all fired from the same gun: by identifying the caliber, firing pin impressions and ejector marks.

All 13 were fired from the same firearm, a 9mm Winchester, he says.

Now talking about bullets and bullet fragments collected from the scene that Hoepfl examined.

Some bullet fragments are damaged to the point where it is difficult or impossible to identify a weapon that they were fired from.
That said, he said was able to identify five bullets from the scene that were all fired from the same firearm.

Damelio's turn. Asking about how many bullets, cartridge casings and guns Hoepfl examines in the course of a year. "Thousands, thousands, hundreds."
Georgie SilvaroleVerified account @gsilvarole 5h5 hours ago
He's asking about Hoepfl's process for examining bullets, bullet fragments, casings, etc. Also asking about gunshot residue (Hoepfl said he did not conduct any gunshot residue testing).

Damelio asks about how he'd conduct a gunshot residue test on clothing (by looking at it, using microscope and chemical testing). He did not perform any clothing gunshot residue test in this case, he says.
