‘Where is my sister?’; NYPD searching for missing Great Kills woman last seen Wednesday

Police said Mctigue’s husband last saw her at their Waterside Parkway residence at 3 a.m. before waking up at 5:45 a.m. to discover she was missing.
Mctigue, who stands 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs around 125 pounds, has blond hair and brown eyes, according to her family. She was last seen wearing black leggings, a black bubble jacket and black UGG boots, an NYPD statement said.

Detectives found surveillance footage of Mctigue in the vicinity of Great Kills, near Hylan Boulevard, that showed her walking in the area at 5:46 a.m. on Wednesday, according to police and her family. She is last seen on camera at 6:16 a.m., police said.

It is unclear where she went next.

Relatives, friends lead search in Great Kills for missing teacher

Volunteers are searching for a missing 53-year-old Great Kills woman on Friday morning in her home neighborhood.

A woman fitting Kara McTigue’s description was spotted in that community on Friday morning and police were notified, according to the missing woman’s sister, Lydia Simone.

Volunteers gathered in front of the Marina Cafe around 10 a.m. and were posting and distributing flyers as they canvassed the area for the woman, who has taught at PS 57 in Clifton for about 18 years, according to her sister.

It was reported to police that Kara Mctigue was last seen in her residence at 4 Waterside Parkway, Staten Island, NY 10308 on Wednesday, January 06, 2021 at 0546 hours.

The missing is described as a 53-year-old female, White, approximately 5’6” tall, weighing 150 lbs., with brown eyes and blond hair.

She was last seen wearing black leggings, black bubble jacket and black “Ugg” boots.

But where was she last seen? It would certainly help for people in that area if they knew where she was last spotted on camera. That is also 30 minutes later. Was she walking up an down Hylan Blvd?

Is that for sure? I know sadly it probably is cause it is right around the area where she was last seen I live and work in the area a family member or friend stopped in our store with a flyer the hurt look on their face was so sad you can feel the hurt my wife is the same age I feel so bad bad for her family

She was seen on or near hylan and nelson which was near where she lived but sadly they did find a woman in the water by park which if you know the area is the bottom of nelson the next cross street would've been tennyson drive

‘She was struggling’ — Body found in Great Kills ID’d as missing teacher

Police have confirmed that the body discovered Saturday in Great Kills Harbor was the Staten Island woman reported missing last week.

A spokeswoman for the NYPD said Monday there were no initial signs of criminality in regard to the case.

The cause of death is pending a report by the city’s medical examiner.


Family said McTigue disappeared one day after she was released from an off-Island mental health facility where, weeks prior, she had checked in voluntarily.

“She was struggling and the mental health community let her down,” her sister Lydia Simone said. “They released her too early... she needed a little more time to heal.”

Simone also cited coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions as being counterproductive to her sister’s treatment, saying “we weren’t allowed to visit her, and she could only speak with us on a payphone.”
