Her friend posted a beautiful picture of the memorial site on her instagram. I was going to post a link but not sure if it violates any rules.
I saw as well. But we are unable to link it or post any of the victims relatives or friends.

Thank you, Lauranyc, very much, for sharing this. Mr. Vetrano's memorial for his beautiful daughter, strong Karina, makes me think of how solid some people just are in life and in spirit. I appreciate seeing it and continue to hope for progress in the investigation.

"In his post to the GoFundMe page, Phil Vetrano wrote that he planned to build the memorial by hand and planned to pay for the project himself. He said that he would be using all natural materials, from where his daughter's body was found, to make the memorial."

New details about the investigation, some quoted below:

"Detectives are investigating 23 tips from the public after cops last week released a sketch of a possible witness

[...]

sparked an increase in calls, bringing the total up to 122 related

[...]

Chief of detectives Robert Boyce during a briefing with reporters.

[...]

its release has helped investigators.

[...]

the DNA has also been undergoing a “familial” analysis to see if the sample is a partial match to any profiles in the databases"

The number of tips just seems so small to me!

I guess it really will come down to the "one" right tip, and I hope that "one" is in the batch of 23 that just came in.

I have a feeling that a large portion of those tips are related to what Curtis Sliwa and the HB Patrol have been posting about.

Thanks for posting your opinions on the meth theory, guys.

Also, are these tips helping lead to the perp or they think the person the tips are about is the perp?

This killers DNA may not be in the system. But his DNA might be a match for another victim. I dont believe Karina is his first victim.

You are probably right! Unfortunately there is quite a delay getting rape DNA results entered into CODIS to have any idea there is a match.

As I read your post, it occurs to me that perhaps any previous victim did not report a rape. This could have been a horrible escalation. Maybe a victim in the past didn't report him - perhaps a girlfriend or ex-girlfriend, a date, homeless/marginalized person for examples. If he raped but without this level of violence (and obviously without murder), it could be that some victims never reported it and thus his DNA is not in a database.

I've had a feeling all along that a girlfriend or ex-girlfriend suspects him. Not based on fact, just a hunch.

Many rapes are reported but the DNA hasn't been entered into CODIS. There are extreme backlogs all over the country.

I know, and it's a tragedy.

But there are also many unreported rapes. Sometimes victims of violence don't go to authorities.

I'm agreeing that this probably wasn't his first rape, but perhaps the first that went noticed by someone other than the victim.

Thank you for posting this, Momoffourboys!

This is most excellent! I'd be interested to see their stats since 2003, and if their efforts to assist nationwide have been successful.
;crossfingers:
If nothing else, we know that the scientists at the ME's Office are prepared, no backlog! It's just a matter of obtaining what's needed to get the DNA "hit." IMO, this is just a matter of time.
I pray that there is an ongoing, quiet and determined investigation (there has to be!) - and that this case is solved before another woman is hurt or loses her life as Karina did.

I know this has been discussed but it seems like the attacker managed to ambush her when she had some line of sight. She looks like she can run a 3 minute mile...she seems savvy, a drugged up guy would probably fail if they were just grappling. So I think there were 2 perps, a guy posing as a jogger or a very fit/young attacker. It's a bit odd. I don't think she knew the perp because people are smart. Say she runs into a fry cook from the restaurant out in the weeds. That's weird. She would not let her guard down even if socially obligated to make small talk at a distance?

I agree with you. However, IMO, she was attacked from behind. Didn't see this monster coming.

The amount of time that goes by is unacceptable. This needs to change. People have to be aware that this is going on.

Yep. I agree. From behind. And the line of sight wasn't that good with tall brush etc. The crime is so rough, a spur of the moment attack of pure opportunity seems unlikely, unless her fighting back like heck got him angry and it escalated. Anywhoo, I realize this is repetitive. Sorry.

It's absurd a woman can't go for a run without this happening. I don't care where she is running or what she is wearing.

From my very conjecture, hypothetical psychological analysis of the perp:

White male in his 40's...lived hard...semi-homeless. Drugs (meth/crack) & alcohol his daily diet. Thin, wired, scrappy, scruffy white-blonde hair & unshaven & grayish blonde. Steely eyes; smiles inappropriately. Considers himself a bad a**.
Poor hygiene & dental care. May have had a military background many decades ago. May have tried to live a normal life decades ago (wife, kids, job) but that was too much stress for his personality disorders (paranoid personality disorder & antisocial personality disorder). Probably from the Midwest originally (Kansas or Missouri). Alcoholism & abusive background.
Has committed similar rape crime decades ago. Has a hair trigger temper & a nickname that matches that -- his semi-homeless vagrant buddies know about it ("Snap", "Slick", "Snake"). He would've been considered good looking in his youth & a "cool" guy. Probably good at high school sports.
Probably has a few tattoos.
Does odd jobs until the boss realizes he is a thief & a wise-butt.
May be suffering from bite marks left by the victim & scoring antibiotics from fellow dirt ball vagrants & clinics far away.
He thinks he comes off as charming to society as he is lost in a time warp--prides himself on "cleaning up" real nice but that is not reality.
Lives in flop houses, with some prostitutes, and amongst the hobos.
He was drinking beer & high on drugs when he wanted to rape. It escalated & he thinks it wasn't his fault.
Probably living in some shed/garage somewhere far away with folks that aren't too happy to have him hanging around. Maybe living with relatives on their property. They wish he would go away.
He is resourceful & paranoid.
He has a wallet that is old & tattered but contains critical info.
He is a predator & takes what he wants. Always antisocial (anti-authoritative) but periods of seemingly "normal" bouts of life interspersed. He feels rules are made to be broken.
Some suspect him but most are fearful of his trigger temper. Most wish he would go away ... A bully & intimidator with his irrational temper. Anyone that offers him kindness will soon be a victim & he will laugh it off as if they were suckers.
He will talk to a confidant that will go to authorities & he will eventually be arrested.
New laws may be enacted as a result.

All conjecture; all moo. Studied this type too long. :-(
