Often when something new is released we also get little bits of info we didn't have before; such as now being told that LE has gone thru some 200 videos... I also noticed they said "It was taken at 5:46 p.m. — minutes before authorities believe she was attacked" - did the mean that figuratively, or literally? If literally, then that would change things..... I'm sure LE continued to watch that video noting cars behind her.

That was what I thought also. Perhaps they could see a pedestrian/bicyclist eyeing her and following her also.

PIX11 NY Crime Watch Daily. Great to see this. Thank you, kimi and sleuthers.

Karina seems so young, beautiful and strong to me, and it's a cruel irony that now, just seeing that image, she seems so much more alive. It's inconceivable to me, that anyone could take her down.

My thoughts and prayers continue for the Vetranos, for their family and friends.

So seems that at this point she hadn't entered the park? I was thinking by 5:46 she would be on the backside of the run but since she is on the street with cars this must be at the beginning of her run?

Okay, perhaps too much watching the Sopranos - could guy in the trunk be the perp? Being he's found near a park that's not that far from Howard Beach...

Thank you, OldSteve, for all your help and invaluable wisdom.

Well, I've never watched the Sopranos and that was my first thought too! I'm hoping LE will be able to ID the man.

Thank you, Kimi. From your link, looking at the park in the video just released of Karina jogging.

If this perp had the inclination to lurk there in the weeds, watching and waiting,

then where do you think would have been the closest points to road that he could lurk unseen

from where he could double back to where the he attacked?

Thank you very much, Lauranyc83, for everything. And that's exactly where LE's focus seems to have been, IIRC.

Mary Murphy pix11 covering the newly released footage

Snip

video camera near Spring Creek Park in Howard Beach caught sight of Vetrano at 5:46 p.m. Aug. 2, just moments before authorities believe she was viciously attacked and five hours before her body was found in the park.

The 30-year-old was beaten severely, sexually assaulted and killed during a solo jog — an expedition she typically made with her father[/B]. Phil Vetrano sat out that day due to back pains[/B].

BBM

Has there been confirmation about whether dad just sat out on this particular day or had he missed prior runs due to back pain?

Thanks

I'm so glad they're confirming they have video. I've long suspected they had at least one or two images of her from surveillance. I think they have more evidence, too. I hope they're on to someone, but who knows.

Poor Karina and family.

I can't look for a link at the moment. But i did read that she had gone for runs without her dad prior to that day. That was no the only time.

Hi everyone, I just recently joined the site but I've been following this post. I don't live in H.B. but my cousin used to live there and still has a business there so Im familiar with area. Although not with the inside of the park. Anyway after watching the video, did anyone else notice that she turned her head to the left almost as if someone either called her name or there was something going on?

I just had a chance to watch the Crime Watch video. Detective Boyce pointed out that her socks were wet when found. There was a puddle nearby so he believes she was dragged through the puddle off the path.

Another interesting thing he said was that contrary to previous reports, there was no DNA evidence found at the scene to show that the would be rapist completed his sexual assault. So this is probably why the mother calls him "dickless" and "impotent"

I am wondering if he didn't intend to kill and when realizing he did, he fleed, without completing it. Ugh.

I noticed as well. But it could be she was moving to the left to enter the path in the park and was checking to make sure no cars were coming around her. Jmo.

So I'm guessing the condom found nearby wasn't his. (Never really thought it was, but kept the idea on the table.)

It's hard to hear on the video, but it sounded like they had at least 25 calls about the guy in the sketch, I'm thinking the Utility worker was the only one who had close up look to him?

I also notice how they said they checked video surveillance from homes only around part of the park and not around the whole perimeter. I'm hoping Vetro checked their cameras as well and any place near Crossbay Blvd, because the perp could of exit out that way as well. Vetro is right across the street from the end of the park. Also if you go under the Crossbay Bridge to the other side you would come out into Vetro's parking lot...
